    Yes,twice.
Reliant Scimitar SE6a – brilliant fun, uneconomical and suffered from long journeys
1972 VW Beetle 1200 – great fun very different from the usual repmobiles not brilliant on long drives but you arrive less stressed.
You have to consider the age of the car, it’s all old so unless it’s had a complete resto things will fail, and they will fail faster than on a new car. Do not expect the jump in and drive experience you may have with a modern car.
Would I do it again? Yes, so much more fun than boring modern stuff.

My Uncle Lol fought in Burma, captured by the Japanese and spent 2 years as a POW, the pics of him during training and when he came home could be of a different person. However, I have never met a happier man, always the joker, loved amusing kids – my aunt once said to me that if he had stopped being the family comedian he would remember, and that would break him.

MrsCat’s Grandad went in with the 51st Highlanders, he had a busy war – D-Day, North Africa, Italy, Berlin then they shipped him off to Palestine. He was a top bloke, pleased he lived long enough so he could see his grandchildren being born.
My Dad was in Africa when this happened shooting things with his plane.

Amazing things done by ordinary people, keep sparing a thought for how it must have been for the French civilians.

Yup. Sheffield lad killed yesterday. There’s a vid somewhere comparing speed/time/distace between riders over a couple of decades. Really brings home how fast today’s riders are.

The architect currently depleting my stock of red wine has suggested that it is historic because it protects the hinge pins and the locks from being tampered with from without. Seems logical.

@Epicyclo – My lad loves those tiny Bedford/Daihatsu vans – that may just be the answer to his first car/camper dream (wants a Bay but that’s not going to happen for so many reasons).:

Everyone has a right to hold a view – any view. It doesn’t matter how ridiculous it may seem to others, how illogical, ludicrous etc…

    You are absolutely right.
The problem comes when that view has consequences for others who do not share that view.

Perhaps the kid couldn’t care less about the cow’s feelings and just wants a burger?

Perhaps the kid should understand the feelings of the cow before it decides to have a burger, if it then chooses one it has, at the very least, made it in light of the facts?

The main problem with having no religion taught in schools, as I see it, is that once a child receives sufficient knowledge to grasp of the universe, history and the effect religion has had throughout the ages etc, then religion would cease to have any allure, credibility or attraction, so the various religious authorities would lose control of their flock (funny how that’s the collective noun for sheep!).

Now she has consumed the flesh of dead animals she will not pass into Vegan Heaven and be forever condemned to walk the Meat & Poultry aisles of Tesco. 🙁

Think I’d be pretty pissed off is someone did that to my kids, bit of a knobbish thing to do and they would never see another Christmas card from me, MrsCat would probably be more inclined to do physical harm though.

So just to be clear: this is a thread started by a pseudonymous person to discuss vague complaints of anonymous persons about unspecified persons’ unspecified allegations about unnamed schools being tainted by unevidenced bias? Have I got that right?

It was God acting in a mysterious way!

@JulianA – sadly only Dad left now at 90, when all that generation got together at Xmas and family gatherings it was heaven, grab a cuppa and just sit and listen. Pity no one ever recorded it, so many lost stories.

@JulianA – my Uncle Matt was the gunner in a Swordfish, he and my Dad could argue for hours about planes – Fleet Air Arm vs RAF I would much rather have flown the Hurricane than the Swordfish, it was an antique before the war started.

They are ebay’s finest neon green.
    £13 per pair.
We were on an economy drive to get various vehicles on the road so I bought the first pair. Lasted 2 years, high centre ridge and good knobbles either side, roll quickly and pretty grippy – also available in blue, red and white.

Crawled behind a single rider from the Hope Valley road through Thornhill and down to the flat section because of poor visibility and I would have had to hit him or the oncoming vehicle if one appeared, then again round the nasty bends before Sickleholme services on the way back.

Neither waved but I hadn’t expected them to do so, but I was a bit disappointed that the first one seemed to get annoyed that I was crawling along behind him though.
