Oh dear, my experience of endurance was in early days. It was literally bomb proof and I wore out/ grew out of it before I did.
    Is altura any good now?

Could be right. Or maybe they are going to sell via the website.

Have brought their stuff since they started, had a pair of bib shorts that never died, a jacket that went through everything with me, the liner disintegrated but the outside just went on for ever. Shorts the stitching wears out, but the fabric not, just sew it up and it’s back in action.

Legendary suff, you cannot kill it.

Can only say on my freewheel single speed, I climbed a 100 ft climb in spuds, was amazed I did it and could speak. Was great pulling on the backstroke, ie pedalling in circles.
It’s a hill used by welwyn wheelers who count Laura Trott as a member for timed hill climbs.

I have been riding the same route for 10 years or so, in all weathers. It’s about 10 to 12 miles dependant on variation.
    And within the hour.

Key tips are good jacket gloves and padded shorts, wtb saddle, on one Mary shopper bars comfort here. The brightest lights and two at the back. A petzl head torch. Two tubes and a pump. Phone. Water and glucose tablets.

Finally willpower can get you home when the body won’t and relax there’s no rush and no traffic jams.
For me it’s the best part of the day.

    It will be bright though.
My issue is with lenses; having gone through smarts, cat eyes and now magic shine for mainly commuting on old railway tracks, I want a focused beam. The magicshines pee light out everywhere, I cannot afford the high end stuff.

So, power is good, but if the lens/reflector is good like a pretzel head torch then it’s all good.
Any links to custom reflector/lens stuff?

Like the idea of a light with a health warning.

Any ideas on how to waterproof, Vaseline used to b used on seals.

Looks like the ring on the front holding the lens in needs locking, locite?

In about a few years time, I think the shoes may fall off the cleats before the next set are needed

going for the pipe cutter approach, hacksaw goes on the wonk and dont get me started on an angle grinder after today’s artistry with my cleats.

now this will sound weird; there’s a rider round welwyn called rob (ethel to close friends) whose dad worked for whiskers. i met him once and we had great chat about monty of condor cycles who was the god of wheel building, this guy must have been jesus as they argued about the right or wrong way of building wheels. something to do with the spokes lacing so they pulled into the hub under force; mavic’s way of building.

anyhow I want to get hold of this guy and pay him to teach me how to build a wheel.having been taught by some of the best draughtsmen in the art world, you cannot learn something by reading a book or tinkering by yourself!

angle grinder sorted it out, got carried away, melted some of the shoe, but great fun, cooled them off with a watering can, felt like a blacksmith.

cheers baa, not been there for a few weeks myself. may try it wednesday.

i found the countryside access officers details and will ring them.

the track from harmer green through the fields down to the concrete road bridleway at digswell has been ploughed, with the track reinstated by the tank tractor they use, but at points its is unwalkable let alone bikable. this has to be reinstated within 14 days according to rights of way service, the bridleway cutting across the field has been driven over by this tank and its left deep marks, not sure this is good for the horses, certainly will give a buzz when you next go down it!

We need to investigate with the council, if anyone’s interested in joining forces let me know.

Right to roam legislation, this is an established route that’s being progressively blocked or destroyed.
I will chase it up this week.

This route is a walking route, I walk it of course ahem

So who owns the land, is there a council bod who oversees it?
Jedi, it’s not fun, it’s a deliberate act to endanger users of the land.

Its been getting worse over this last year, they are basically trying to block up a well established route, must be decades old.

Ok they may own the land, but there are lots of trails through there that are legal.

Any thoughts on the big mesh fence at the top?

i was tempted by these, however after 8 years with a hope front hub that has never been serviced and is smoother than smooth and one strip down on the rear which is about 5 years old what can you say? well before you say it, they are used pretty much every day.

quality costs and with hope its supporting UK companies as well as assurance.

they steam up at every opportunity, its a real pain.

there were some oakleys that had vents in them so there was an airflow going in and out. are thet still made.

dont mind the price, its a pain but would be well worth it. eye protection is everything. i have a friend who is going blind for different reasons, but one would do anything to avoid harming ones eyes

Possum are pests as they are introduced species who bugger indeginous species.
In my experience, letting wife wash or mother wash anything woollen is a disaster, it’s become a running joke. Dunno what happens but they get turned to felt. Cold wash or 20 degrees and woolite and by a man and its fine

True about base layer, but the jerseys are amazing, like central heating.

Had plant x for a year, very good for most things above 1 degree.
Got soaked a week ago, still warm after 10 miles, got home squeezed the water out and into the washing machine.

Any lawyers on here who could give an opinion on deliberate dangerous trail blocking?

    rocky-mountain

Increasing problem in herts, we clear as much as we can. I will start photographing and geotagging as evidence. It’s deliberate and could cause real harm. Am waiting for fishing wire which was favoured a few years ago.

Maybe a way forward would be to have a co op type workshop, where communal knowledge comes together with a free cycle arrangement. A couple of mechanics could be employed out of subscriptions.

I fix friends and family bikes for some beers, I hate to see them ripped off.

Anyhow, after a couple of beers…..

How much is labour an hour in a Bike shop? Stupid I bet.

And name and shame, here we go marshals in wgc, broken pegs on my forks, wonky stem cutting, un tightened brake callipers, bent handlebars sold, crap wheel truing and treating everyone I know like they are idiots. Even slagged off specialised at a trade show. No wonder they lost the ability to sell them and one shop closed.

And on that note, go sue me.
