I am doing it solo but have had to scrap any kind of training plan due to

    1. Work – I work in sales. We are in a recession. Twice the effort, half the reward…

    2. Using work as an excuse when I get home.

Going to go and have some fun. Aim is to do 6 or 7 laps over the 2 days and work out a strategy for SITS

Thanks for the info guys, what’s the delivery time on the deal extreme website? Think that might be my first stop. Might get some of the torches as well…

That’s OK then. I have owned another property as well (just my name on the mortgage) since July last year and that’s where I’ve lived since then. Would that affect it?

When you going scaredypants, I’m going on Friday morning with work, out there till Tuesday.

I’m stopping in Espoo. What’s the best way of getting between the airport and Espoo and then between Espoo and the Fair Centre (conference centre)?

Thanks, will deffo check out the Fazer afe

Houns – That’s kinda the point I was trying to make. The M6 is bad every Friday. That’s 52 days every year minimum when it’s a complete pain in the arse. Wasn’t even travelling at peak time today. Just wish someone would do something about it rather than just let it continue :-)

Love my 575. Absolutely love it. Think it was the singletrack review that said it’s a “sit down and pedal milemuncher” – so accurate.

Only other bike I have ridden that I enjoyed as much was a carbon Trek Top Fuel 9.9…

Neither do I. I didn’t like them much to be honest. Didn’t find them very grippy in the wet and muddy stuff. Actually coined the phrase:

“Nobby Nic – half the speed, twice the fun”

Currently running a Revolt Super X on the front and a Larsen on the rear and loving it in the current dry ish conditions

Ton, 12 months ago I was in the depths of despair. I’d had a “bi polar episode” (manic depression), gone completely nuts, left my wife and everything I’d spent years building and “come round” to find this trail of destruction. In the space of a week I was told about the bi-polar, the wife moved to Australia (we’re now divorced) and my dad was hospitalised in a pretty serious condition. It was horrendous. I couldn’t take much more.

The only advice I can give you is to go talk to someone who doesn’t know you from Adam. It helped me loads. And try and find something to throw yourself into. I hadn’t been on a MTB for 17 years and I dropped £3k on a Yeti without even a testride. Why? Well if I’d spent that much I would ride the thing in wind, rain and hail, and I have.

Dunno if that helps, but if you want to chat let me know. More than happy to help. Oh and smile, you’ll feel much better :-)

Thanks guys, you’ve cheered me up a bit. Wheel is still out and every time I’ve walked past the bike I felt a tinge of disapointment!

Sorry to be dumb but can you recommend me some epoxy please.

    Muchos Gracias

Hmmmm, just been there today and it took me 3hr 12.

Not quick by your standards, but I was shagged afterwards!

    Thanks everybody for your advice.

I have used the registered mail thing to “copyright” things before, but never had to go to court with it or anything like that so was never sure if it worked. From your feedback it doesn’t seem like it’s worth patenting it, plus neither of us have got a few grand spare at the moment.

Having spoken with Ron I think we’ll take up Brant on his kind offer. Email winging it’s way to you shortly sir.

Not running tubeless on this wheelset yet.

High Rollers then? Best bet for general all round use?

It was fast there yesterday. We did 1 1/2 laps of red & black ( 1/2 = up Offa’s Dyke Path & back round the black) in 2hr 50 mins. Quickest we’ve ever done it by miles.

Nearly had a couple of offs though as we were flying. Where’d you come off?

So what would you guys recommend for someone who’s 18st? I’m running my RP23 at 260psi which is pretty high. Would I be better with coil on my Yeti 575?

    How would pushing it help?

Hi Ton, good to meet you on the start line.

They got me in the same place as you. It was ten to four and the marshall said they were closing the track at 4 so not point continuing as I’d only be brought back in. Gutted cos I was mentally prepared for another hour of pain.

Spoke to 2 different people who had GPS’s and they both said just shy of 36 miles in total so we must have done over 30.

Yeti 575 – Been out round the peaks today, classic loop of Mam Tor etc, 30km’s approx. It’s been a top, top day. Perfect weather, great company and a fabulous loop. Couldn’t actually think of anywhere else I’d rather have been today.

Pads are a bit old and could be some dirt in there as well. Will take them apart this afternoon.

When you say mineral oil, can I use the same stuff I use on the chain? Finish Line? Is that mineral oil?

Fair play to him for having the balls to fight someone like Barrera. It’s his whole career in one fight really. If he wins he’s back on the road to being world champion, if he loses it’s all over.

The 08 ones are a disaster zone mate. Numerous threads on here full of horror stories of the TST cartridge seizing. Mine are still with the distributor, Windwave. This is the 2nd time they’ve been back with them having bought them in May 08.

Consensus of the people on here seems to be to stay well clear and there aren’t that many products people seem to say that about!

We’re in. Doing this one as a pair so can have a good crack at it (doing MM as solo’s, which could turn out to be a disaster if this weekends 4 hour ride is anything to go by).

    Really looking forward to it.

Thanks everyone. Your words please me as I have excellent mental strength. I’m really looking forward to the challenge. Did Hit The North as a pair last year and did the full 12 hours.

I shall take your advice, looking forward to getting some extra time on the bike and will be getting some lights soon…

I’m not the quickest myself and have quite a few days when I struggle but for us all to feel it on one day right from the start, just thought it was a bit strange.

Still managed a couple of laps but really noticed the trail litter people spoke of on here this week. Its appalling…

    And further question:

    3. Would headset spacers and a low rise bar be the same as no spacers and a high rise bar?

Simple solution: Take them out round the peaks this weekend. Include a descent like Jacobs Ladder or the Beast. Possibly both. They’ll be on their way back to Windwave come Monday morning.

In all honesty, no I don’t think they’ll change them. Mine have just come back (2nd time) and I’ve had to wait for parts as they can’t get enough to fix them all.
