Its daft these days – i cracked the display on the back of my Olympus digital camera – it still worked okay but was no longer waterproof. The camera cost me £80 brand new. Olympus wanted £78 to repair it and my local camera shop had a minimum £150 repair charge!

Maybe the plywood is just covering up an original victorian balustrade?

Slight problem for me (assuming i can find a kit) is that there is nowhere warm in my house at the moment!

Have tried Head doctors and the like, all moved and lead to loosening headsets. Long live the sfn !

How come? You only need the head doctor/SFN to preload the headset, once the stem bolts are tightened up you can take the head doctor out and the forks/headset will still work perfectly.

Rightyho, i used to live in exactly the same kind of building (in South Wingfield!), we found that listing applies to the inside as much as the outside of the building so listed building consent would certainly be required along with Building regs approval.

However, how are they going to find out (untill you come to sell that is!!)?

Most road tax classes went up in the budget whenever that was. The web site has the correct amount i'm afraid.

Might this be in South Wingfield by any chance?

We did the red route at Dalby Forest last year, it rained the whole time we were there. I have a mix of brakes on my bike, the front Hope Mono M4 with pads that were at least a year old worked fine for the whole trip. The rear Avid Juicy 3 with brand new sintered pads didn't manage two thirds of the ride before they were down to the metal.

As already said we used to fit PIR's with a different lens pattern which cut off a few feet above the floor. We also used to occasionally fit ultrasonic sensors which could be used in this application but i think they were a lot more expensive.

However in my opinion a burglar alarm should be designed to stop scrotes getting into the house in the first place, this means shock or break glass detectors on all the windows and magnetic contacts on all the doors. Its not a cheap option however. PIR's etc will only go off once someone is already in the house.

I'm an Architectural draughtsman, i was made redundant on friday along with six others from our practice. I'm not even going to bother looking for another job in that field.
My plan at the moment is to have a few months off then in september i'm being moblized to go to Afghanistan with the Royal Engineers.
Hopefully when i come back in a years time things will have picked up over here.

You need to give some thought to disabled access from the car parking space into the building. Can't think straight right now cos we are under threat of redundancy and i've had a few beers but i think 1;20 is too steep to comply with Part M.

They ask you to let the tyres down simply so that the bike doesn't try and roll all over the place.

Do you think the phone will physically last for two years? My Nokia needed a new battery in under 12 and my current Sony is looking decidedly tatty after only 6 (and its never been dropped).

Gortex waterporoofs are designed to be worn under your uniform (hence the lack of pockets), mine are whichever size was handy when i was issued them and they fit me fine! Having said all that i've never actually seen anyone wear them under their uniform.

£5 a bearing! You must be mad to pay that for them. Look in your Yellow Pages for bearing suppliers and get them for loads less than that.

You might end up having to pay the road tax back to when the car was last taxed (happened to me once) even if you did not own it then. Plus the automatic systems being used today (ANPR etc) give you no leway and this direct from the DirectGov web site

"You could face an automatic penalty of £80 as well as a minimum fine of £1000. Your vehicle could be clamped, impounded or even crushed."

Ah right,no i didn't know about the footbrake, there is a A4 photcopy of some instructions in the glove box that talks about pushing a button but no mention of a foot brake!

Just been outside for a look, it has indeed got the footbrake and what i thought was the handbrake switch releases it.

Many thanks guys, saved me from looking like a plonker!!

Plus the other car has to be insured by its owner as well.

Its unlikley that your car will be using DOT 5.

DOT 3, DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 are similar fluids and can safely be mixed with each other.

DOT 5 is totally different and must not be mixed with anything except more DOT 5

For the umpteenth time of saying, any warranty you get with any product you buy is with whoever sold you that product, not the manufacturer. If the manufacturer wants to add additional warranty then thats up to them but they don't have to.
The fact that it OEM or OM or whatever makes no difference, in this case your warranty is with Chain Reaction.

The council will be able to tell you that, plus you need to check if it had building regs approval.

Substandard may just mean that they don't comply with current regs (ie not enough insulation). Homebuyers surveys and the like are so vague as to be almost worthless.

Service history is not as important as some would like you to believe, the 2 valve bikes are fairly easy to home spanner. I did the belts on mine with no problems but if i was buying a bike with no history i'd have to get the price of a big service knocked off. Loads of recepits and an indication that the owner knew what he was doing would be okay though.

Not quite right Mav, the St2 is a 944 watercooled motor (despite what the Ride mag buyers guide said a few months back).

If you are used to a jap four then a Ducati will be a bit of a culture shock! The older bikes like the St2 etc are lumpy and horrid at slow speed (like around town) Ducati's need to be thrashed to come alive though, they hate being ridden slowly. The clutch is quite heavy as well which doesn't help.
Best mod is to change the standard 15 tooth front sprocket to a 14 tooth.
