Use quite a bit of blue Loctite on components, even things like BB cups where it says ‘don’t use threadlock’

Copaslip great for the back of brake pads although someone will along in a minute to tell you how it migrates through the backing plate and contaminates the friction material.

You have started the ball rolling by politely asking your neighbour to do refrain and she has refused so the next step is the Environmental Health (Noise Pollution Control) dept of your local council. Write to them explaining the situation and they will write to your neighbour and tell her a complaint has been received. This is usually enough to have some effect but if not you will be asked to keep a diary of when and for how long the noise occurs, which will then be used in court.

    Try it, it really works

Not exactly downsized but I have worked a 4-day week since 2006. With some careful budgeting, growing stuff and asking myself ‘do I really need it?’ I can honestly say I don’t miss the money and having three days off every week makes it easier to cope with the grind of the other four, instead of trying to pack everything into the weekend.

Green tea for the masses. Very smooth, no ‘WTF is this?’ flavour, no bitter aftertaste.

BBB rollerboys FTW. Quickest way to make an XT mech look like Alivio but they were only £8 from the lbs.

Always received stuff within a couple of days previously but ordered a jersey last Monday and it arrived today – 8 days. Great price for the jersey

    Mavic Stratos?

Got a Fox RP rebuilt by the lbs. They got the seal/lube/top hat/bushing kit kit from Mojo and a local car tuning shop recharged the cylinder. £70 all in, turnaround 2 days.

Mondeo will take a slack-angled size L AM bike or a wide-barred hardcore hardtail no problem and still have room for a party in the back

Inexpensive netbook with mobile broadband dongle thing.

Bought one for the MIL a few years ago. Hard work at first but now she is pretty proficient with it. Uses it to send emails that read like letters and to post embarrasing comments on grandchildren’s Facebook pages.

Going to get it at the weekend. Still looking for a Skull or Rex dashboard toy for the Mondeo :-)

Sam Hill reminds me of that other laconic Aussie, Mick Doohan. Says very little just gets on with it and let the results speak for themselves.

Ardents have huge volume due to a very high profile. The sidewall on a 2,25 is taller than a 2.4 Nic but the width is fairly average/slightly on the burly side. Resoanbly fast with a good floaty feel thats soaks up the hits

Surprised there are any bikes left to race knowing what a light-fingered lot they are in Hanleyduck

you’d be better getting a set you can wear for the whole ride

    ^^ this

Fox Launch Pro. You know you’re wearing them but only in the same way you know you’re wearing undercrackers

Love both tyres but I feel a HR makes a better front on sketchy, rooty terrain.

An Ardent on the front is a not a bad choice but more suited to BC than the UK IMO

Might also like to try a 2.5 Minion up front if you’re looking for ultimate grip at the expense of speed. Not as big as you might think or maybe a 2.35 Minion it is a skinny Medusa carcass with a Minion-style tread but might be useful if you are thinking of riding in a lot of loose, loamy wet stuff

…until it has 2 good brakes

the other kids will point and laugh if you send him out on it with two brakes :-) One on the rear is the absolute max

on topic, you need to find your local bmx hobo(s) who will fix youup with a block of tar to rub on the rims. Not only does this massively increase braking power it also makes a screeching noise that makes the birds fall out of the trees

I once paid in a cheque for £3000 over the counter and my account was mistakenly credited with £30,000 8O :D

It was literally a day befoe the bank realised the mistake.

Plenty of quiet, narrow, tree-lined up-and-down lanes around Croyde but off-roading hmmm…

Some people plead ignorance and try to ride to Baggy Point but they and their bikes are usually cast into the sea at some point along the track :-)

Got the two-year-old Float R on my C’dale serviced by the lbs. Air can service/regas, seals, oil, bushes etc two days turnaround £80.

The difference between how it was (even from new) and how it is now is like night and day. Simply much, much better in every way.

No probs with CRC at the moment ordered some bits from them yesterday and got the despatch notice this morning.

Although it’s a faff I’ve found that ordering bits separately can speed things up you will get several boxes instead of one but it seems to work

My Juicy 3s have been faultless – on original factory bleed, from Jan 2008. Pretty gobsmacked at them really!

    ^^ this

J3s on three bikes and although they all feel a bit different they have all been faultless from day #1. Also have some 575s with RT76s and they are also fit & forget.

me & mrs rocket got married later in life and were pretty sure about it without having any peer pressure. Just seemed like the right thing to do at the time but now we have kids I think it gives them a bit more security compared to their mates who have parents who kindof clear off overnight leaving half-a-house and a load of grief behind.

Current car is a mondeo petrol 2 litre hatchback

Get another one but make it a diesel. Guaranteed 50+ mpg no matter how/where you drive it, blast up hills fully laden on a tidal wave of torque and the boot is big enough to hold a party in. Although it’s only a couple of inches wider than a Focus (my previous car) it is like four feet longer.

Hugely sorted motor, massive choice of used models you know you want one.

Seems like a perfectly reasonable offer. Some in-laws offered to take my wife and kids to Lapland with their sprogs to see Father Christmas the other year I helped them pack and took them to the airport before you could say ‘I’ll think about it’.

Let them go, laugh about it when they get back, you don’t have to be your family’s shadow all the time.

As above but don’t forget your branded shell suit and intravenous supply of chips/ice cream/cake/chocolate.

Hopefully they will have finished the seafront roadworks when you go it was like Armageddon last week.

Organised fossil hunting at Lyme Regis a total rip walk along the beach for ten minutes and you are practically tripping over ammonites.

Just got back from a week in Dorset. Lovely house, pretty village, ace pub etc etc.

No mention in the brochure of the dawn chorus that kicks off at 4:30 every single f*cking morning and lasts for three hours until the birds finally f*ck off.

    ARRK! ARRK! CAW! CAW! ARRK! coo-coo, coo-ca-choo, coo-coo! AARK! ARRK! cuck-oo, cuck-oo, twit-twoo, twit-twoo, ARRK! CAW!

    etc…

Best way to deal with the pebbles is to put some rubber down. 2.4 Nics most excellent, Maxxis Advantage also pretty good. Small, closely-placed tread blocks aka SB8s or Intense System 4 also very good on the pebbles but not so hot elsewhere.

Best to just MTFU (as they say) and ride round with what you’ve got otherwise you’ll need a tyre support truck

Personally I think Chain Reaction are the dog’s. Ordered a lid on Tuesday during the 30 minutes it was reduced to £15 yes fifteen quid and got the despatch notification today.

Not sure whether the price change was a fluke or intentional to drum up a bit of business but hey I don’t really care.
