The RRP of my road bike has gone up £2000 in the 2 years since I bought it. For exactly the same bike with exactly the same spec.

Not sure any high end bikes are going to be that cheap anytime soon.

Wheels get mashed mountain biking. Riding over rocks is fun. Just accept they won’t last forever and get on with it.

It’s still fun in the rain/mud. Particularly the steep bits. No need to not ride just because it’s wet.

It’s just the lighting storms with malteser sized hail stones that can stop play.

The team apparently didn’t even have the courtesy to tell him directly that he hadn’t been selected. Found out via social media.

    Shockingly disrespectful and unprofessional

If you go that route and end up with replacement back box or full system don’t forget to factor in the modified parts premium on your insurance. Full stainless aftermarket exhaust will almost certainly be viewed as a modification.

It always has whenever I have had one fitted.

If it’s just replacement mid sections you should be fine assuming diameters are the same and no filters are removed

I had a Santa Cruz Chameleon stolen from me the day I built it.

Rode it round to my friends house, cycled it into his garage attached to his house, went in the kitchen to get him and it was gone by the time I got back 30 seconds later.

Got it back about 18 months later when the Police found it in a Crack/smack den. Sans fork and wheels but most of it was still there.

It’s the same with running and triathlons and other such events etc

    5km, 10km etc.

    I don’t go for a 6 mile run, I do a 10k.

I also use kilos,CMs and other such metric measures.

Except in golf. But that’s just silly and confusing. I have no idea how many meters I hit a 9 iron.

Had mine a year now. Really great bike and I have no desire to scale up to the Claymore.

This is the 150mm frame with a 170mm fork. I have the stock tune on my rear shock and it works just fine.

Climbs well, descends very well and is just the right balance of nimble/plough.

Yeah totally. There’s generally no crazy committed stuff.

Although depending on where you go it does get steep and there is the odd borderline drop/rut/root thing.

I’ve had a Highlander for a year now and ridden all manner of gnarly Scottish terrain and never once thought “I wish I had more bike”.

I do have a 170mm Fox 38 on the front of mine and a coil shock on the rear.

But despite this I still find myself wondering and pondering….

    Stop it brain!

Also trim all your armpit hair etc. really short (not at work) and this will dramatically help prevent unpleasant odours developing.

Just down from Les Gets over past Cluses you have the Col de Romme and Col de Colombière you could quite easily make a loop from Les Gets (it would be climby but what isn’t there)

The Col de Corbier over to Abondance and back via La Forclaz is a nice route

There are nice quiet roads round Habère-Poche

You can do a nice route from Les Gets up to Lindarets, Avoriaz, Les Mines D’or and back via L’Encranez

Also worth a cycle up to the Cirque du Fer-à-Cheval and back via the Joux Plane

I recently discovered that pets such as dogs and cats consume approximately a fifth of the worlds meat and fish, and therefore imprint a significant carbon footprint on the planet.

    Interesting eh?

Surprised me seeing Rachel Atherton at Fort William. In skiing you would be able to rock up and practice unless you had the points etc, you would have to enter the event, and have enough points to enter the event.

She has essentially been on maternity leave. I suspect her many, many uci points were protected from prior to going on leave, hence her ability to practice and potentially race.

I was there a few weeks ago.

In addition to above you can do the etape caledonia route and there’s some nice short routes/loops doable using those roads and some of the roads towards Tummel Bridge, Trinafour and Pitagowan.

Didn’t get a chance to do any offroad riding unfortunately.

Speaking as a fully committed fashion victim Roadie I would say a Factor is considerably more desirable than any major commercial brand and a used frame would attract a premium price as a result. And I ride a Cannondale.

No way I would be accepting a repair to a carbon frame as an insurance solution. Particularly not to a high end road frame.

I would never ever knowingly buy a frame that had been cracked and repaired. Not even if it was cheap.

Rapha Core are good but I find they provide less compression than the more expensive ones – the pad does move a bit more as a consequence but still very comfy.

I have some Galibier ones that are probs 5 years old that I use for turbo and under MTB shorts that have held up very well.

    205km.

170km was the 2018 Etape du Tour from Annecy to Le Grand Bornand and the remaining 35km was the unexpected ride back to Annecy after I screwed up the bus transfer booking.

A long and hot day. But one of my favourites.

The Greg Hurwitz Nowhere Man/Orphan X series is good fun:

“The Nowhere Man is a legendary figure spoken about only in whispers. It’s said that when he’s reached by the truly desperate and deserving, the Nowhere Man can and will do anything to protect and save them.

But he’s not merely a legend.

Evan Smoak is a man with skills, resources, and a personal mission to help those with nowhere else to turn. He’s also a man with a dangerous past. Taken from a group home at twelve, Evan was raised and trained as part of the Orphan Program, an off-the-books operation designed to create deniable intelligence assets—i.e. assassins. Evan was Orphan X. He broke with the Program, using everything he learned to disappear and reinvent himself as the Nowhere Man”.

Not particularly high brow/pretentious but well written and exciting. Deffo several steps above McNab etc..

Also Michael Koryta – “Those who wish me dead” and other books (book much better than and totally different from the movie).

Cutting out carbs is just one way of reducing total calories consumed. It’s not necessary. Yes it is optimal to strike a balance in total carbs consumed per day in relation to fats and proteins but the most important thing is the total calorific consumption per day.

A balanced diet comprising a range of healthy foods that is consistent in its total calories every day (a slight deficit of you’re looking to reduce body weight) for a long period of time is the most important thing. Portion control and understanding your total daily consumption vs what you need is key.

Despite what many people will tell you reducing or removing entire food sources is generally not necessary.

And smoothies are typically also full of carbs, as are many soups.

What’s wrong with bread? Is it an allergy thing or just fed up with butties?

I eat some combination of cooked chicken or fish, orzo pasta or giant cous cous with pesto-like flavouring with some sort of salad or roasted Mediterranean veg for my two lunches most days. I Prep up a few days worth and stick it in Tupperware. That way I can accurately measure out carbs/protein/fats to the desired quantity. Very tasty too.

I am also a fan of cold beef/turkey/veggie chilli and rice so often knock up a large batch at the weekend and portion up some for weekday lunches. I can never be arsed walking to the micro to warm it. Again makes for easy macro and portion control

It’s very easy to pack an excessive amount of calories into a “healthy” smoothie if you’re not careful and they often don’t give the same sense of fulllness as unprocessed foods.

I’ve seen (and m sure others have too) social media footage of Tom riding DH trails in Morzine and other places. Based on what I saw I’m quite sure he could race a DH World Cup and do well if he wanted to (or was allowed to by ineos).

He might just be the most talented push bike rider/racer on the planet.

Pelvic tilt is a likely trigger. The advice above re getting the Kelly Starrett book is sound.

That or do some online research – much of it is available with a bit of effort (mostly to filter the nonsense).

I am a fan of Active Isolated Stretching in combo with the other mobility WOD etc interventions above. It’s worth getting a bit of expert guidance as it is a bit more complex than just stretching the quads but in my experience it’s hard to find a decent practitioner who actually knows what they’re talking about.

I had this very issue after too much sitting and quad dominant exercise. I got a standing desk, was strict with a hip/lower back protocol and started running a day or two a week which really helped (but took a few weeks to feel comfortable running. Lots of walk run walk).

Now it’s just my neck and traps that hurt. But at least I can run and cycle 🤷‍♂️

Get a Rød pølse with remoulade from one of the many kiosks.

Go for a walk round Tivoli in the evening.

See if you can get a cancellation at Noma or Geranium (if you want to bankrupt yourself) Or perhaps more sensibly go to the street food market – Reffen?

Get a tattoo from one of the many world class tattooers based in and around Copenhagen.

Cristiana is definitely worth a walk round. The weed smoking bit is just one corner. Go for an explore through the grounds. It’s really peaceful.

Go have a walk round the botanic gardens and Rosenborg Slot.

Yeah I have several, and due to an unrelated eye injury to one eye I do all my focusing with one eye so they are really prominent, particularly in bright/white spaces.

You get used to them though. I don’t typically notice mine anymore day-to-day but they don’t affect my vision.

My optometrist tells me they’re nothing to worry about. Not sure if they are treatable. THey are essentially cells suspended in jelly.

I have them on an Audi RS3 (same size as you’re looking to get) Very good in all weather and temperatures even down to icy/zero degree conditions – which we get a lot of where I live.

They’re fantastic in warm conditions – Just put mine back on after using other wheels with Pirelli P Zeros for a few months and the Michelins are noticeably better.

    Deffo recommend.

The Barcelo in Portinax (far north of the island) is nice smallish adults only hotel. Nice pool area near 2 beaches. Small town but had some quiet nightlife (not clubs) and is close drive to several amazing coves/beaches.

Hotel restaurants were decent when I was there. 1 main restaurant, 1 pool bar/restaurant and a beachside restaurant

It’s quite far from San Antonio and Ibiza town etc (30mins by taxi or so) so may be too remote for you but if you want a chilled break it would be worth a look.

How accurate are they once they have been smashed into rocks repeatedly on the first ride?

I felt bad after scratching and bending my £130 Burgtecs!

Interesting. I had sort of dismissed gumtree for this sort of bike but I suppose it’s a good way to keep things local and avoid having to courier it.

Will go with that I think. Cheers.
