I don’t get Top Gear. It’s essentially the same programme repeated every episode with slightly different cars.

Race pt 1, unfunny banter, star in car (yawn), more unfunny banter, bit of a semi review, race pt 2, end.

5th gear is like what top gear was like before the reboot. A programme actually about cars. Not a tired middle aged light entertainment show with some allegedly “risqué” humour that has cars in it.

It would be easy for someone well over 6ft to get the seat high enough for the correct leg extension.

The reach on the other hand us not do adjustable. You don’t want a long stem in a bike like this

Was Jeremy Irons in that film?

I’m 5 10 on a large Capra. It is not a short bike in reach.

It’s perfect for me and noticeably larger than any of my former bikes.

    Love it.

They do need an XL in the range though.

Steel axle vs alloy crank = stripped …

    Robz

I’ve never checked the torque of a pedal axle in my life…ever (or any other bolt for that matter).

As others say, I would just buy some other cranks for the time being and punt the others when they come back.

Lucky to get a warranty if you installed the pedals yourself. IMO.

Any big scratches on your pedals?

I paid via RBS bank transfer. Worked well and seemed good value. Cost me a tenner in fees.

How long have you been riding for? I wouldn’t recommend BOS stuff to anyone who’s been riding for less than 4 years; but ideally you want to have 6 or more years saddle time before you’re ready for a full BOS setup.

    Erm, why?

    Or are you being funny?

Why would you be worried about having excellent suspension?

I had Idylle forks and Stoy shock on my last bike. They were outstanding and never put a step wrong. Best suspension I’ve ever had by a country mile.
There is plenty guidance online about how best to set the forks and shocks up.
I just ordered a Capra Pro Race and can’t wait to get more BOS goodness.

Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat soundtrack, the original with the dreamy Jason.

Jason wasn’t in the original version. It’s criminal that I know that.

From what I gather ( and I may be misinformed) but you are better buying a decent 1080 HD set rather than a cheap 4k one.

I agree re the sound. Fitted a sound-bar at the same time. Connects via Bluetooth. It’s no 5.1 but it works for me.

Got a 55″ Samsung LED H6400 a few months ago. Did quite a bit of research at the time and I have been very happy with it thus far.

Got picture settings off a tv nerd website and it he quality is fantastic. Only downside is its crappy wifi reception but wired in it works fine.

It’s up to you really. Wear what you feel is necessary.

I wear full face lid, neck brace and knee pads regardless of whether I’m riding Fort Bill, the Alps or my local DH track.

Buy a lid that is comfortable from a reputable brand. More expensive ones tend to be lighter. If you are planning/anticipating falling off a lot buy one you don’t mind scratching.

You don’t need to wear a neck brace. I rode and raced DH without one for over 15 years. Got a Leatt now. Expensive but i don’t notice I’m wearing it.

No Nixon watch is cool. No fashion watch is cool.
Nomos, Junghans Max Bill, IWC portugese, Vintage Rolex, Schofield, 70’s Breitling top time. All cool.
Saying a Nixon watch is cool is like saying a Peugeot 206 with a badly fitted bodykit is cool.
(Apologies if you are still at school then I guess there is a some truth in your statement)

Ha ha. No I left school a while ago.
I knew there’d be a few watch snobs object to my recommendation. I think the OP may struggle to source an IWC for £200-£300.

I would rather wear a Nixon than a £300 Casio or Citizen but then I like trainers and tattoos a lot too so I guess we are probably on a different page.

I can accept your viewpoint though. I am equally snobbish about many other things… Just not watches.

Done it lots of times. No real issues except for one damaged box in 1998. Also worked in morzine for a few years picking up guests from Geneva airport and again don’t recall any real issues re damage.

A few bikes went AWOL for a few days but these were all BA flights with connections.
Geneva airport sees a lot of bikes, golf clubs and skis etc. There is a big conveyor belt for oversize items.

I’ve flown direct from Edinburgh with Easyjet last few times. Was all good.

Bullshit! The Coyote Dual is an awesome frame. Bombproof and reasonably light. Still got mine after almost 10 years. Still rides great.

Sorry let me rephrase that – Coyote was never a desirable “brand of its time”. I had one of their downhill bikes. Only because that was all I could afford at the time (along with equally shit RST High five forks).

    It was rubbish.

The duel was just a Taiwanese catalogue dirt jump frame wasn’t it?

    Kooka- loved their cranks
    Paul’s components – nice cantis
Azonic – shorty was a cool much copied stem design
Club Roost – my first riser bar
    Sintessi
    Claud butler.

This thread is ace. Lots if brands/things I haven’t thought if in a long time.

Onza spds are the single worst product I have ever purchased in my life ever. Death traps.

I’m glad Pace have disappeared. I wasted a grand on their Monstor DH fork and it broke every time I rode it. Their after sales care was hopeless too. I worked in a Pace dealer at the time too and never sold another pair of their forks after the shit service they gave me.

Neither of those videos do the severity of that track justice. A lot of people would struggle to ride it cleanly even missing all the obstacles. It is steep in parts and greasy when damp.

    First guy has mad skills.

    Total. Load. Of. Bollocks.
    Waste of money.
Eat a healthy balanced diet, exercise and cut out/down booze.
Cut out empty calories – reduce your consumption of refined carbs like white bread, rice, sugar etc. and increase healthy fats, lean protein, veg and get your carbs from low gi sources like sweet potatoes.

Spend your money on healthy food not pills and powders.

I am not adverse to supplements, indeed I use ZMA and protein powder. But they are just that, supplements to my normal diet. .

Two nights ago I was 5 mins away from pulling the trigger on an 18…

Then I realised the 2015 YT Capras were released so bought a large one if them instead.

I never got a chance to ride an alpine but a 17 alpine with a 35mm stem has the same(+3mm) reach as a large Bronson with a 50mm stem which I thought was a little in the short side.

I think you need to embrace the long front centre and wheelbase. But I was coming from a dh bike and used to along wheelbase.

Speaking as a tattooed person I am glad that there are people who don’t like tattoos.

The world would be a very boring place otherwise.

I mean, I don’t have a universal love of all tattoos…I only like good ones.

Also I am amazed this thread went on for so long. There is never ever any point trying to explain why you got tattooed to someone who doesn’t like them… especially to someone who thinks that everyone who gets tattooed is the same and therefore “underclass”. I mean how ignorant can you get?

No point even taking on people like that.

I first met Brian when I took my bike into Alpine Bikes in Aberdeen to get fixed about 21 years ago or so. I had entered my first ever race (juvenile category) at Kirkhill Forest and he talked me into entering the youth category instead as it was “more riding for the money”. I got my ass kicked and retired from the race before the end…Thanks Brian

I then ended up working at Alpine off and on for over 10 years and Brian was a regular customer. Always really friendly, fun and enthusiastic about bikes.

I haven’t really seen him in years but it still saddens me to think that he is gone… A true old skool mountain biker!

Don’t forget much of the miserableness probably stems from bitterness relating to an inability to ride a bike anywhere near as well as the chap in the video. It’s understandable really.
