I did exactly this two and a half weeks ago. It was very sore for the first 24 hours. I Cling filmed for a few days then used non stick dressings when at work. The scab kept getting rubbed off.

It’s still healing now but has improved significantly since Thursday/Friday (2 weeks post scald).

Note to self don’t handle pans full of boiling water in bare feet. My wife said she’s never heard me scream so high before😢

I’d be chuffed if my kid shredded like that (if I ever get round to having any).

It is based on good old common sense science

Which is it, common sense or science? It sounds to me like the sort of thing made up by someone selling books.

Yeah fair enough that was poorly phrased. I meant well established science. You know like basic anatomy and physiology – the principals of antagonistic muscle pairings, reciprocal inhibition etc.

What’s wrong with books? I’ve spent hundreds of pounds over the years on physio, osteo appointments over the years that haven’t always helped very much. I spent £20 on an AIS book that has helped a great deal.

And anyway, much of the info is available online for free.

I’m not here to squabble. AIS has really helped me since I started doing it regularly. Just trying to share…

I recommend investigating active isolated stretching (AIS) and find a practitioner to help show you a relevant protocol.

AIS has helped me address several shoulder, hip and lower back issues.

It is based on good old common sense science that muscles work in pairs, and that to work optimally they must be free from unnecessary tension or inhibition, able to contract and relax as intended.

This was after exhausting various physios and osteos who got me nowhere – particularly with a persistent hip injury.

There’s quite a few shops that rent out bikes.

A decent enduro bike will be 70-90ish euros a day ime.

Some of the french (i.e not run by brits) have more basic/cheaper bikes and you would probs be fine just rocking up without a reservation (perhaps not at a weekend). Brakes will be wrong side though.

Worst case scenario you have to hire from multiple shops.

Lots of hire shops in Les Gets too if need be.

Strange. I found the install straightforward and mine were silent in use.

I plan getting a set of the new model soon once funds permit.

I used a Race Face Cinch bb with hope cranks on my previous bike. Worked a treat.

Not sure if they come in a size to fit your frame though.

Was there a few weeks ago. Fantastic city and fantastic riding.

    I miss the pinxos badly.

Might go in spring or autumn next time though as it was like riding in a furnace.

For food – Fausto’s and Borkonyha Wine Kitchen are amazing.

Alabardos is also very good in a slightly mad kind of way.

I’m heading there with the road bikes in 2 weeks… planning on getting out early and hopefully might not be quite so fiercely hot as is predicted for this week.

Managed the etape and to get up Mt Ventoux in 30+ last year so hopefully should be ok with lots of sun block. Don’t have the altitude in Girona to cool it down though…

Can’t wait. Very much looking forward to some good food too

Last year I printed off the generic template and politely asked my GP to sign it whilst I was attending an appointment for an unrelated issue. Few questions from the Doc and signed and stamped nae bother.

Although the staff weren’t exactly scrutinising the forms at sign on in Annecy last year… several thousand people to get through and all that.

I had the same decision to make and decided that it made more sense to buy the cheaper Pro, sell the parts I didn’t want (saddle, brakes, bars, stem etc) and buy replacement bits I actually did want (Hope, Burgtec and Fabric parts). I managed to offset a fair chunk of the cost of all the new stuff.

The Fox kit would have been nice but I am happy with the Rock shox stuff (will probs get a coil shock eventually though). I wasn’t that fussed about the Ethirteen carbon wheels and cranks, and ultimately to me the additional cost wasn’t worth it.

I am happy with my decision although the black/grey Pro Race with Kashima fox kit does look very nice.

Mine’s got a more BB8 white grey and anodised orange look going on.

My wife and I stayed in a Premier Classe in Arras last year on the way to the alps.

Basic but very cheap and extremely clean and as the car park was protected by perimeter fence/wall, a huge security gate and cameras I didn’t bother taking my bikes out of the car.

They offered to let me take my bikes in as well.

The soil/compost that commercially grown mushrooms are grown in is apparently treated to be sterile. You could mix it in water and drink it and be fine.

No need to wash. Just brush off.

Wild mushrooms different story. Ok to wash but don’t soak. It’s a myth that you should never wash mushrooms and that they just absorb Water. Some, like girolles, need washed to get crap out of all the gills. They don’t abide water as easily as people say. If you doubt this just weigh some, wash them and weigh them again and you will see very little increase.

    Peeling never necessary

I had a Norco Sasquatch in 2004 that was horrifically stiff. My hands and back still haven’t recovered from having to use it for a week in Morzine when my DH bike broke.

I’m trying to post a pic from my iCloud album but failing.

I replaced all the brakes, stem, chainring and seat collar bits with orange Hope parts so the bike now looks like BB8.

I don’t mind the dropper. I thought I would hate it as I am used to reverbs etc. but its quick, reliable and seems solid enough.

Do slightly wish it had the 150mm Fox suspension but for 90% of what I ride the 140mm Is fine. Might get a coil shock for it though.

After weighing up all the options I went for a white CF Pro. The Pro race wasn’t worth (to me) the extra money. The white is not my favourite colour but looks ok with a few component modifications.

Im 5ft 10 and went for a large which fits perfectly.

The support round the route was outstanding. Really helped motivate and encourage – Especially going over Whinlatter when I was at my lowest point.

Now I know I can get round and get up everything (albeit in ideal conditions) I’m already planning how to do it quicker next year (assuming I get a place).

Dropping 5-10kg of upper body mass would be a good place to start…

How did people get on yesterday?

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole affair. Weather was perfect and I thought the route was great. Virtually zero traffic on the route and I really didn’t mind the crowds.

The busy A66 section wasn’t busy and was nice to blitz a few fast miles.

Made it up all the climbs too which surprised me as I really hadn’t trained very much in the lead up. Took it very steady in between climbs. Wrynose was hard work so soon after Hardknott.

I think coming from a mountain bike background really helped on some of the descents – some of them were fairly wild.

The loch Muick ride is essentially fire road round the loch. Narrows towards the far end and gets a bit singletracky for a wee while but nothing too hard. Glen Tanar is a good shout. About 15 mins away by car and beautiful. Lots of fire road routes.

If you get an hour to your self check out heartbreak ridge.

I have a 2019 Jeffsy and it pedals very well.

I haven’t ridden a Giant so can’t compare it to a Reign or Anthem but the 2019 Jeffsy is loads better than my 2017 Capra. Steeper dear angle helps a lot too.

In the summmer there’s no guarantee you will actually end up being driven by the company you booked. They all pool resources and share vehicles/ sub-contract for the sake of overheads/efficiency.

I’ve always used Ski Lifts and never had an issue.

Nike Metcons – designed for CrossFit so they have good solid sole for squatting etc but also enable a bit of running (wouldn’t want to run a 10km in them but great for circuits/sprints/warm ups etc.)

I have been using these for a year or so now and they are great. Got mine cheap from DW Sports.

Thanks Whitestone. But your first two hilarious responses weren’t necessary. I wasn’t trying to take the piss. Just curious.

The latter part of your response was helpful in providing clarity, I understand now that these bars are for old people who ride boring trails (now I’m taking the piss). 😉

What is the purpose of such a handlebar?

Like, what sort of riding is this shape helpful for?

Can’t go wrong with Torico on the Rue de bourg across from Bar Robinson. They’ve had nukeproofs for a few years. I rented one last summer and it was in good order and well priced.

Well I know that for what I ride here in the NE of Scotland (you know, like the Cairngorms) a 29er Jeffsy is a better bike for me than my 27.5 Capra.

If I still lived and worked in Morzine I would probs have a new (29er) Capra as a one bike for all.
I did love my Capra/s (cracked a couple). But my view has changed since riding the new Jeffsy.

But that’s just my opinion. I wouldn’t presume to think that it is the same as everyone else’s. I perhaps overstated the fact in my previous post.

I bet you simply had more agressive, heavier, softer compound tyres on the Capra

I used a wide range of tyres depending on requirement.

thinking you were more gnar on it

    Pardon?

    Maybe I’m just getting old….This

I was joking. On account of now riding a 29er. Im not old (relative to the average age here)

I’ve just switched from a 27.5 2017 Capra to a 29er 2019 Jeffsy and the difference is huge. The steeper seattube angle makes for much better pedalling and the 29er wheels and shorter travel means it just is much more efficient on longer rides.

I don’t feel much slower on the downs either. The Capra is quite a lot of bike to pedal around all day.

I do not regret the switch in the slightest. The Jeffsy is great fun. It’s my first 29er and I’m fully converted.

    Maybe I’m just getting old….

Neither rice cakes or bread are “bad”.

    Carbs are not “bad”.

    Fact.

Any “diet”that needlessly prohibits or excludes entire food groups and or macros is completely unnecessary and more often than not unsustainable
