mr redspeed i most certainly am not kidding it sets a real bad image for cyclist out on the trails when football yobo language like that is displayed to the outdoor enthusiasts
i certainly do not or any of my colleagues do that when we shred the downhills.

the swede no, its very rare if i swear and certainly would refrain from doing it in a public place.

    troll? 😉

I swear everywhere I go and the ladies love it!

for cables I’d recommend going for good quality outers, just makes sense. Feels nice and smooth with Goodridge, better than standard, better feel and life and only £17 😉

I’ve been using BB7’s on my hardtail for 2 years, best upgrade for me was Kevlar pads from Superstar.

you can buy all-sorts on eBay. Get some Ti ones but use the correct lubey! Or, go anodized, bling bling! 😉

Just type in the thread size vs length and you’re done dude!

Have you got the old ones out?

Can’t you just buy/download a previous route, or follow someone on Endomondo? Good luck.

Are there fist fights when STW does it’s races/meets? There’s always someone wants to argue… 🙄

I’d forget trying to be *waterproof* when cycling. Any effort through the pedals creates too much sweat and Gore Tex etc cannot cope with breathing properly.

I have lots of experience in the purchase of uber expensive tops only to find NOTHING works in cycling (if you’re putting in effort).

In the cold I use Buffalo, in the warm I don’t care.

Love my EX but i had to fiddle with it to make it right. Rear shock has less than recommended pressure and it feels a lot better. I kept the original bars and stem on to see if I could ride in comfort… no chance so had to go for a 70mm and 760mm combo. Brakes (Avid) are bloody terrible, swapped to Hope – all good. lastly the wheels, my god Bonty are crap! Aluminium nipples! they corrode and pop the spokes, replaced again with Hope/Stans.

All these changes were costly BUT my EX rides better than my Scott, Nomad and Maxlight.

I reckon it depends on the person. I would love to test more bikes, if you have the chance then do it, have fun.

My EX makes me feel happier when riding than my Maxlight, Scott or Nomad. All top end bikes… That’s why.

about 20 years of riding, 5 significant bikes, say 20k between those. Take clothes, upgrades, lights etc… 40k all in. Not too bad considering. Hmm, maybe about 2k in last 6 months just on bits!

    Love bikes, me 😉

    I know the feeling Buzz…

i need to get back to my fave trail becuase yesterday i found one huge tree had fallen straight over the trail. need to get rid but it’s so big i think that only option is a chainsaw!

Looking forwards to the weekend, even if i do go out almost every night (it’s only an hours worth).

Get a chain wear tool and always change the chain before it wears the cassette too far. Will pay for itself many times over!

    Does it really though?

A new chain is bound to wear more quickly as it beds in. I think.

Very interesting and the answer could save me a ton of cash over the years, anyone know for definite?

@Realman, I am that guy so thanks for the point out but I can use the spares if this bike goes well, I’ve got 2 others and one has Bonty Tubeless rims, so no issue.

Wish me the best of luck – PLEASE 😉

Any thoughts on my last question Realman? Or anyone else…

*EDIT* Thanks for the advice Realman.

yep, the Evo has a new design giving better leverage = more power (15% I think I remember). I have both types on different bikes and I know that everything is equal except for these levers – they’re better, simple. Just as good at the whole modulation thing that Hope is so loved for though.

@doug_basqueMTB.com: That’s a good table to start with, thanks Doug.

I’d like to stick with Maxxis because the HR sticky is my favourite tyre so far.

Stan’s Kit just buy the kit you wont look back

    Thanks mate, ordered.

@robsoctane, I see your current front tyre is a super tacky one – if you do use all that grip when cornering I doubt you can go much lower on pressure without a larger volume and/or stiffer walled tyre. But even with the same pressure it’ll feel grippier in the corners and faster in the straights.

Thanks again, I do tend to ride very hard and feel the grip all right. I’m going to experiment with pressures and see how it goes, can’t have that squirmy feeling – I’d have a mild heart attack me thinks.

I have one more question for you all… Once the tyre is worn, are they easy enough to get off the rim, they’re kind of glued on, right? I guess that trial is the only real way but I’m trying to pick up from others before I make too many mistakes. I’m worried that I’ll be in the middle of no where and the tyre just goes burp, smash or similar.

ahh, and that’s how road bikes generally run 120psi? I think I’ve got it! Cheers all.

I am / was a big fan – but there is downside. Anyway – I might get flamed for this – but ime:

1&2: You’re in luck with the HRs on Arch EX’s (assuming wire beads?)- near perfect tubeless at around 30psi. If you go lower than that you risk “burping” the tyre off the rim (tbf the HR is far less likely to do this than a Schwalbe ime).

This is right, wire bead. So I only have to buy new valves and some fluid now – away I go, right? 😉

@realman: reference question 2, don’t pull that face – what I mean is can I trust the HR tubless to run fine for instance, Stan’s dont recommend lots of different types of tyres.

Reference question 3, you’re indeed correct. Let me ask, are tubeless as puncture proof as I’m lead to believe?

The main benefits are that you will hardly ever get a puncture, and that you can run pretty much whatever pressure you like.

Please explain how, I just can’t understand how the wall doesn’t collapse and the tyre roll over.

hayway everyone – it clearly depends how hard you ride, how heavy and fast you are.

Pootle and they’ll stay well, blast and a heavy rider will destroy them.

Hope you had fun making it because there’s a reason that it didn’t come out looking like Ian Rankin shot it and it’s nothing to do with gear.

As said before, transitions are clean and simple, well done.

Good luck and I hope to see more. 🙂

    Hi Trxrincon,

I tried to source parts from Scott for my 02 Octane and was told that they only hold parts for 6 years on any frame if it’s not made any more. I hope that helps in some way…

It should be easy enough to source second hand though.

BTW, bloody ACE bike! Well before it’s time!

might be a good test for how much of a gobshite the shopbloke is ?

I’m guessing it will generally be whatever bike they have in stock in my size slightly above the price range I stated. Maybe in too cynical.

That’s not too cynical mate! Can you see a shop owner saying ‘Well the best is XXX but we don’t stock it’?

Hmm, video mam was in for a shock, eh? Very unnecessary action from the rider in orange. +1 for bar end comment above.

Camera guy, get that wa£k£$* to court. Or next time ‘rider on the left’ 😉

My wife noticed: guy in front messes up big style going up the rise and just gets so angry he takes it out on the only one around. still, that’s no good.

He’s older, less fit, his bike’s crap and he hasn’t got a camera – there’s your answer!

I feel for you now, really. I’ve got 3 bikes, an AM, a ‘Hardcore hardtail’ and a trail bike. I agree with the guys saying go HT first. This makes sense.

What I do not agree with/like, is all those that would slate this lad. Flamers stay away…

I for one genuinely welcome you mate 😀

    Nice.

A guy asks for a bit of help and then like a pack of mindless animals everyone rips into him for nothing more then sport.

Real friendly guys. I think in other areas that’d be called bullying.
