Got the POC ones, thanks for all the advice. Now to mend my knees, the scabs are so tight I can hardly pedal

Blackmoss Pot! Oh I love Langstrath! Have you been to the ‘secret cave’?

I’ve never rode there but must have done all the crags 50 times over.

@ ivanr, you have a point… Is that bike a little stinky? He wants a ‘good bike’ like his dad. That would be great for him but I just thought that I could get away with using my smallest frame. I’m hardly using it now…

BR: you really think its too big? Damn! Is it the top tube stand over? What’s the bike in the picture?

Maybe he might fit better next summer, enough to be safe I mean??

Thanks everyone. @ Andy: he’s a good’n on 2 wheels full stop. He currently rides BMX 20 inch wheels. The BMX weighs a good 35lbs! I’ve just swapped the post from the BMX to the Phase5 and it seems he can get on it but may indeed need a shorter stem, going for a 50mm.

He’s already car park tested it and says it feels fine but I know what that means…

The forks are talas so if I drop them to 120mm then it may be fine? It does seem high at the front though, any other opinions please?

Lastly, he’ll be coming with me to local woods to mess around, about 15 mile loops.

Yep, they’re taking you for a mug mate, don’t let them. They really should have called you first. Which bike are we talking about please?

Get him on it without saddle for a spin and see?

Maybe this above will help – just taken. What’s the opinion? I’m willing to change the stem to 50mm.

Thanks for that ianv. I was thinking that the wheels may be a problem. Thought they may be like 29ers for me. Lots say that 29ers aren’t as manoeuvre able as 26ers… Is this what you mean? Was thinking that a different seat post would actually save money!

Op, I’m really sorry to see that. Dear me, you’d think that these bikes would be tested for this kind of stuff! Seems like an epic fail to me!

Yep they’re fakes, I’ve got the white ones. Decent quality though. Can’t compare to the real TLD but they’ve not got hip pads if that matters. Would buy again but they are only a month/ 6 rides old.

I was idly thinking while riding during the week that my shocks could be wired up to my dropper post. When it’s all the way up I’m climbing, when it’s all the way down I’m descending and the damping and travel could be set accordingly. When it’s in the middle then I’d want some middle setting. Patent pending.

Now that sounds like good stuff, bring the marketeers in! Patent it now!

I’ve lots of experience with 4 season walking boots and having tried about 10 different pairs I always come back to Scarpa SL M3’s. f you try you can get them for £100. They aren’t Gore-Tex, thank the gods… much better to have proper leather IMO. These Scarpa’s have impregnated leather, impregnated with waterproof stuff, under pressure. Very waterproof and warm.

To compare I’ve also used Asolo, Brasher, Karrimor, Berghaus and a few others not worth noting but all in or around £100.

I’d recommend that you try them on before you commit though, any boot, that is. Have fun.

Love Higheollers for the front but they are draggy in sticky format on paths etc. I don’t mind, I don’t notice it on the trails in the mud!

Op, sounds great to me! I will put my 2 penny’s in and vouch for Arch EX. They’re tough as and to boot I’ve got the white ones on Hope hubs. I reckon that if you are under 170 pounds in weight the Arch EX are all you need. Flows for the bigger boys IMO.

    Have fun, it sounds amazing!

Edit: Arch Ex do support 2.4 tires, I use them. Just a thought…

Can I claim my shed to be a man cave? It’s big enough to store just 3 bike in and I do have to move 2 out if I want to work on the other.

Plenty of tools and stickers everywhere though.

Wish I had a garage

Mine’s 5.14 miles there, same back. Takes roughly 17 minutes depending on the wind.

It’s a simple mistake if she really wasn’t wise to it. So the more concerning question really is…

Did she know what she was doing? 8O

I’m a Senior Account Director, working under my Sales Manager. I head a team of 4 and my colleague (job title the same as mine) does the same. The Sales Manager oversees us two and we report to him only. He’s the go to guy really.

Some good points there, thanks everyone!

I’m interested in the sweeper! I also suppose that it will in time sort itself out in pecking order style… What I can say for sure is that I’m really enjoying riding with others for the chatter and laughs!

Aye, maybe with some practice I don’t… Hope you’re right! Just seems I’m always dragging brakes and also end up following their line choice.

Yep, shorter bolts are needed and a chain device is an absolute must! You can use a front mech but if you want a proper device then I’m using a Superstar one and it cheap and good. I went from 32 (normal) to a 34 Hope ring and it’s perfect. Good luck and enjoy!

I’ve got Hope on Arch EX and they’re bloody great! I’m only 160lbs but ride quite hard and no problems after 6 months. Ride about 200 miles every week, apart from a few paint chips, woo hoo!!!

YT would be my only consideration mate, the cost vs spec speaks for itself really. Warranty is only as good as the person who decides on the day making it very hit and miss. Countless stories on STW forum that agree to this.

I reckon Hope is the only company that’s never been spoken ill of when warranties are mentioned.

YT for my money, looks bling too!

My only real concern are ruts running in line with the trail. I’ve got the feeling that my tyre will go in it then twist and I’ll go over the bars. Can anyone help?

Those photos above are lovely! You look like a great rider, getting down that stuff is hard work – well done that man!

    Thanks Stevede!

I hadn’t heard of the XL Muck Nutz – got the version 2.1 which is great but at £11 what can go wrong?

Never found anything useful for the back but then again I’m far less concerned getting my bum/back muddy as my eyes are on my face!

I ride with my Giro Xen and Oakley goggles and it’s great for wet and dirty fun.

I couldn’t give a monkeys what I look like. Why would anyone, when they’re covered in crud?
