I reckon the best part of my full suss bike is being able to pump it into corners (some call it loading)… feels lush & flicks you back out. never felt that on my hard tail. As many have said, yes – it certainly makes a difference what full suss you choose (regarding acceleration). Pro pedal will fix it if you need to.

Test a full suss before buying. Happy riding!

Just me but I use Easton Fatboy flats with skatey type trainers for messing about. I swap regularly to egg beaters & Pearl Izumis when out for a power type training ride, to strengthen my legs, increase stamina etc.

I love both types of pedal but both are very different to me. I understand everyone about clips on DH/rough stuff & staying attached is good. Generally though, I simply do not trust myself enough (limited skill) to go flat out in clips (DH).

Clips for building strength for me/flats for fun.

everyone rides different though & understand (or not) their own skill levels. Just ride to have fun in the end. Peace out…

hi all, I run a High Roller 42a sticky for the front & boy it slows ya down on the paths. But – Ive got a semi slick High Roller on the back & boy it speeds you up on the paths…

All in this combo equals things out I feel. The semi is much better than I expected on the dirt too, it’s a keeper.

I think that looks ace for the money vs spec. If that’s your budget, I honestly don’t think there’s any better out there. Go for it, hammer it & tell us all what you think. Good luck matey.

as far as Fox servicing goes, here’s a trick – buy enduro upgrade seals & you’ll not need to touch them for around a year or so. I’ve got them on my talas’s & they’re well worth £25. THE best upgrade per buck for Fox forks. They come in matching blue too so they look well trick, if that’s your thing…

@ uplink – thanks for that, unfortunately mine’s not a High Octane, that’s a more knarly freeride/downhill model. Mine is the 150mm trail type & I’m sure the bearing size will be different. Scott UK are no help at all.

I suppose that I’m going to have to pull these bearings out & take them to a bearing factory outlet. Thanks for trying to help & if anyone else has owned this bike before I’d appreciate any more.

I’d just go for 2nd hand Fox Vanillas. I’d only ever buy Fox after several other forks of equal price didn’t perform anything like as well as what I have now – Fox Talas 140mm. Yes I had the others set up right etc.

Ebay is your best bet, good luck.

I run the pads in my Hope Mono6 Ti’s & they’re lovely. Cheap enough to test anyhow comparatively. I only use Hope rotors though, so know nowt about the big ‘S’ versions.

    Good luck

I’ve played on 29ers but don’t own one. I think the main difference is chuckability (when we’re talking performance). Ask yourself honestly if you chuck bikes enough or stay planted. Planted is great on a 29er, really fast (eventually) but chuck it & snap it. As always – horses for courses.

want to take portraits indoors with no flash? Sit your subject by the window, use white card to bounce natural light & open your lens up fast.

What’s your typical subject? I can help with guerilla photography.

@ elfinsafety – I’ve got to ask why you think that onions matter? I was reading with interest until you started being silly, quite frankly.

I can understand peoples frustration, disappointment & indeed hate of the middle east but we must all remember that what we see on the news is told to us through a very focused lens.

My personal belief is that we should try & help their peoples with some concious raising. They are free to believe what they want as adults but to force feed children religion, hate, intolerance & sexism is wholly wrong.

In the end lets just hope that the death of OBL will spell less funds for ALQ’ & interest will falter, who am I kidding?

OBL was a key financial figure to ALQ’. He funded the works of evil men who hate the west, freedom & free thinking. The fighting will not stop because he is dead. In fact, unfortunately I’d have to agree with those that have already speculated that revenge attacks are likely soon.

Americans dancing in New York this morning reminded me very much of when the trade centre fell & the middle east danced.

[/quote] LOL – people in glass houses! Take a look at your own country first!

I distrust my government too & feel equally sorry for us! We’ll never know the truth about OBL though.

Yes, 3 – 4 inches between your knackers & TT. Being a relative beginner you’ll appreciate the ‘room’ when you land a drop wrong! Got to say that I’ve never Alps’d before but I know that the spicy is the bike for you out of those two.

Over bike all the way. Pad up & ENJOY mate!!!

Lastly, why Lappiere? Orange make an Alps, just a thought.

@ uplink – how did you find that bearing size on Google mate? I can’t find any info…

I can find the bearing you refer to of course but not related to Scott, tell me the secret mate.

I can’t say I have but I will add my 2p worth because – I have learned the hard way about inadequate clothing in extreme conditions. I use Mountain Equipment & Sprayway now.

I almost froze on Nevis range in 2005 whilst ridge walking for 5 days. Temperature was down to -35 with wind included & boy did I suffer. I don’t now because I have the right gear.

Do yourself a favour & at least asses the conditions that you’ll be in & what you expect out of your clothing. I do not follow fashion AT ALL but it is worth paying for the brand when we’re talking mountains.

If you need a base layer for cycling – use a wool (Merino).

    Good luck.

Osama is dead but we’ll never know the truth about how. USA will perhaps lie about gun fights & bravado ‘no American was killed in this instance’ what heroes.

I’m not yank bashin’ – I feel sorry for the people who live there & are lied to by their government.

Obama said in his election in 2008 ‘We will kill OBL’. He will be assured of re-election now. If OBL was found dead of natural causes, would that have the same effect on the public when voting time comes again.

Green Slime – utter cr**… I’ll stick to carrying a spare inner tube.

Wave rotor on BB7 Avid was warped on arrival too.

Seems to me that there’s a Conti’ theme running here & I’d have to agree that Race King is no king at all. I had huge problems with their fragility.

@ Takisawa – Your Hope M4 cannot be set up right, they’re more than fit for purpose.

I would add that my Rockshox Quadra r21 back in the day were no use nor ornament. May be that’s just early technology but then again, should they have been released at all as they never worked as suspension, they just kept a wheel at the front.

I’ve got crank brothers egg beaters for £40 & I reckon that they’re better than XTR, IMHO. my shoes are Pearl Azumi & also £40 – both from Wiggle. the best set up I’ve had out of 4 different ones.

    Good luck mate.

@ Uplink – Thanks mate, that’s great news – will see to that now…

Also, I’m afraid I’m not selling the frame, that’s the best bit even though it’s tricked out. The swing arm is the second one on this frame because first did snap at the pinch bolt – first owner must have tightened too tight. I then knackered it. All is good now though & it’ll never worry me about snapping again.

I love this bike & really need it sorted so wish me luck.

Even though I have a Nomad frame coming I’ll always love it.

Knowing what you’re capable of whilst riding is the key here, if we’re talking performance? Is it a looker? All in the eye of the beholder obviously.

Can you ride hard enough to need 5 inches?

O5 will handle most things in the UK but can you? Buy buy buy if you can.

The suspension design is simple & works, period. Low maintenance too. Buy an Orange & watch them all turn green. :D

@ Buzz, I do intend to push it as much as I dare but I know it’ll never receive the thrashing it can withstand from me & that was why I firstly questioned it. I’ve ordered it now though…

I know it will inspire me more than my Octane but that’s only because it needs bearing parts that aren’t available anymore – rattle rattle, bendy bike. I love it so but it’s time it goes.

@ampthill – thanks budd. I need to keep it at around 30lbs for that so need magic wheels I guess.

i have an xt cassette, Sram chain, Truvativ crank. I use muckoff wet or dry as appropriate & generally clean it all once a week. never had a problem with muckoff, ever.

    good luck with the problem.

thanks everyone, comedy & wise words too, all are very welcome & appreciated. Okay,I would now like to say that a Nomad frame & Cane creek DB is ordered & although I feel guilty about cancelling Rome this year, I will end up at Wor-gate on a bling machine.

will I feel any difference between QR drop outs & 20mm Bolt Through if I’m not a pro? I guess that should have been my real question – can you really feel the difference if you push the bike 50% of what it can take? i ride hard all right but I’ll never honestly ‘send it’ over a 20ft road gap…
