Have you ever been in an modern office environment where you’ve seen naked ladies on the wall? I’m sure you’ll have been in a few garages that have them up…

The distinction comes in somewhere near: ‘work hard play hard’. I can hear Guy Martin saying it now

‘Proper grafters’ ”men’s men’ ‘nowt wrong wi that’

I imagine Orange just like their staff to feel comfortable and let them have their own ‘comforts’ around them. They’re obviously not scared to show this work ethos and good luck to them, I say.

Hi OP, the Pha5e is a great ride! I absolutely love mine, both me and my 9 year old son use it to blast on. Very short wheelbase so it’s great for twisty tracks. I’ve put an FSA seatpost on after I found the Tompson too stiff. It really helps when seated because that back end I so stiff. You can fit huge tires in the back end, I’d recommend that for the same reason.

Show me yours and I’ll show you mine!

iirc from stuff on here trek warranty upto 130mm?

That’s right but it doesn’t hurt the bike.

I use 140mm talas. Head angle seems fine on everything without adjusting the 140 height. I would ride 150mm if I had them…

Have to start with for inexperienced or experienced jumpers?

Sorry about that… I’m no dirt jumper like the likes of Sam Pilgrim. More of a rider with a ‘bit’ of jump experience who wants to learn more… I’m prepared to spend the winter digging/moving earth but would like to know more.

HR’s should be printed with “aggressive riders only” on the side. I should know as they turned me into one after finding the sweet spot. That sweet spot is very though…

My front is a sticky 2.3 and its ace in every condition.

Braking in corners? Don’t get it! You brake before the corner and then stuff your front wheel in!

Thanks Chrssmale, I’ve tried that and nothing, lubed and varied amounts of tight, not tight. Problem persists… Damn it!

    Anyone???

and that you should ALWAYS ride assuming that round the next blind corner is a fallen 5 year old in your way.

I’ve read the whole thread and thought quite a bit about this. I must also point out that I do not ride at trail centres. So, whilst I would never wish harm on anyone at all, I just couldn’t ride in the style advised and quoted above. It’s so unlikely that a fallen child is around the next corner in the middle of the woods that I couldn’t bring myself to hold back… Yes, I do feel selfish saying this but I’ve never hit anyone in 18 years of riding and I always go as fast as possible.

Maybe I’ve got my Hope hub to thank for this, that buzz is far more that the ring from a bell!!

I may be wrong but I think you can use 10mm skewer on the front of normal QR… like the DT Swiss one maybe?

Thanks everyone, you’ve opened my eyes quite a bit to fixed wheel bikes. Looks fun doing those type of skids but I’m not sure I could ride brake-less!

    Thanks for posting a vid!

Guess you’ve all seen Chris Akrig on a fixie?

Can I achieve the same effect (just to try it out) by just constantly pedaling and not letting up? Minus the cool skids of course.

@njee20: where Biospace rings oval? I thought they were. I know Q rings are oval. I didn’t mean that Q and Biospace are exactly the same rings! They’re both oval though, right?

Anyway, have you tried them njee? Any good if so?

I’m reading most of the comments in utter amazement!

You don’t like mud? Your bike gets dirty? Poor you!

Listen lads, mountain bikes are for off road riding and off road; there’s MUD. It’ll always be like that until some council builds on it.

If you don’t like cleaning your bike and clothes as much then buy proper mudguards!

    I feel the DaRkSiDe growing…

Reckon that you’ll feel the difference alright but I doubt you’ll die, lose your footing a bit maybe

I remember something like Q red chain rings? Didn’t that Swiss guy that wins all the XC use them? Also, they came on Raleigh MTBs in the early days.

If you buy one please review it for use

Never noticed them before BUT: UK seller, massive CLAIMED lumes and only £50. Reckon that makes them worth the punt myself. For a few quid more I will recommend the MagicShine MJ872. Lovely light, lighter, very powerful and very good quality too. Mine have lasted a full year now with no problems, used at least 3 times a week.

Good luck with your night riding matey.

No idea about the pads OP but what I’d like to say is best of luck with your new found hobby. Cycling really does lose the lbs and its fantastic for the cardio too. Stick with it, which won’t be hard given your bike… You’ll pop out the other side a well honed mountain goat soon enough!! Bravo sir!!

Thanks for this, I think I’ll try it out beside my Magicshine MJ782.

That should be an awesome set up!!

I didn’t like it at all… Wasn’t the exact same light, but an equivalent. The XML just created an annoying bright dot but the 872 was still doing most of the work, halfway through the first ride I swapped the 872 onto my head and put the XML in my pack and was much happier.

YMMV of course but I wouldn’t recommend it. Oh yeah, tried it with the wide angle lens, even worse- just made the bright spot a more distracting shape.

This isn’t me recommending against the C&BS light, btw- just recommending against this particular combo.

@Northwind: Yep, just about exactly what I now think of it. Bloody pity though as I thought I was going to have a cool set up…

I had a £10 eBay Chinese 1000LM torch delivered today (the one recently posted about). Strapped it to my helmet at 5pm and went out. How annoying that it’s useless with my MJ872. The light is very white/blue in colour and although I wanted a spot, it simply doesn’t throw far enough to be of use with the Magicshine. Have you got a suggestion for me Northwind? All I want is another lamp/light that will enhance my already great MJ. I would just buy a Spider-eyes but I’d love to see one before I spent that much cash – I know it’s worth it but does it compliment my MJ… There’s got to be something out there?!?

I’m doing the 140mm thing on my EX 2008 and it’s great, better than the 130mm original, just. The head angle feels a little more balanced once you get used to it.

To get the run times you want sell the 18650’s on ebay and buy some better quality ones from Smudge .

Yes , abit narrow beam but bang on for a helmet light , and stupid bright when compared to Ay ups and small single emitter exposure lights.

My torch was delivered today and it looks fine – good advice about getting rid of the batteries, they and the charger look absolutely frightening!

The beam on the torch seems fine, though I’ve only turned it on in the house. Tonight’s the night…

Having no experience with Shimano for 10 years, brakes wise – I have to call it for Hope. As you’ll know Hopes are famous for their ‘feel’. Depends what you want them to feel like. You may even buy Shimano and regret it because you’re used to the feels of your lovely brakes!
Lastly, Hopes are the easiest brakes to bleed by far IMO.
    Good luck.

Are there any suspension set up guides out there that are for the layman? Maybe someone could post a link? Also, amazed that Fox could get it SO wrong on the 2013 CTD forks! Have lots of people complained? This is the first I’ve heard is all…

When I went 1×9 I went up by 2 to 34. I only run out of gears when on the road so it’s cool by me. That’s with 11-34 on the back. Personally I can’t wait till Hope release their 9-34 cassette though, I’ll never run out then.

Wether you’ll be fine with 32 on the front, I don’t know but I’m glad I changed up. See if you can borrow a front ring off someone before you purchase?

    Good luck.

dudders, what tires have you got? Some are known for being flimsy. Think tought tires not tubes, IMO of course. I don’t ever have probs with my Maxxis HR’s. plenty of thorns my way. There may be even more at your end though, look for ‘protection’ casing. I think Conti do some.

    Good luck mate.

Thanks for that, good show! Makes me wonder if reflectors are easy to get hold of… Seems the torch needs a little play with to make it on par…

I don’t doubt Smudge though, or Troutie for that matter. I’ve read so many good reviews I know those boys are awesome at what they do. Hope your mate likes his new light/riding time change!!! If he hasn’t seen it show him the video on Ride IO that they did for a ‘night riding special’ very funny.

Another vote for Stans Arch EX on Hope 2 Evo’s. really strong and reliable wheel with a decent cost vs weight. Multiple colour choices too if that’s your thing… Mine are White rims with red hubs, perfect!
