My BB7 front brake is set up with Speed Dial lever & Goodridge cable. I run Clarkes’ pads & my brake uses Hope 203mm floating disc.

Power is bloody fantastic & set up is so easy. Modulation is brilliant & the lever feels perfect.

Cheap enough, robust & genuinely powerful. I love BB7’s. :D

One tip: swap your cable outer every few months & it’ll always feel great.

Ed Oxley should be in even more, I love Tangfastics & always ride with them since seeing them packed. Articles like Man & boy, whisky & B&B’s etc are great. The photos are only bettered by Dirt, as is the over all design (or art) of the mag. Now that’s where Dirt do stand head & shoulders above all other cycle mags – did you see their WC issue last year with the watercolour rainbow effect running through the mag? That issue should have won an award for the art involved.

All in all, I’ll keep subscribing to ST & Dirt, can’t be arsed with the rest.

I used MK’s a few years ago, old style & 2.4 folders. They’re rubbish but I didn’t notice until I swapped them for Maxxis rubber, 2.35 HR ST – now there’s a good tyre – if you corner it right… hard & snappy.

I hope you get what you need on first purchase, it can be difficult.

    Hi all,

Would a longer brake lever make more of a difference to power that going up from 160mm to 180mm disks? After market levers are available… :?

I love all of the joshing on here!

@lewismorgan: F&*^ed forks or not – it seems that you easily upset with your on-line behaviour. Thank & apologies to the very kind person that did you a huge favour.

I got soaked on Sunday – 20 miles when the sky throws down felt great & getting muddy is even better than when the sun throws down. I love it…

I love Hecklers & want one myself – someone please tell me the differences between the older & newer frames, I see the back end is more curvy now.

I’ve got a dent in the same place & around the same size – mines fine & I ride hard enough to knack things – been like that for around 15 months.

    Go ride…

@kato: It’s not only a Muppet that will rant. I can clearly spell & complain at the same time…

@Drac: Most probably. Rant over then.

@DaveyWonderBoy: I may use caps next time.

If the scooter had 29ers, I wouldn’t have helped. I’d have told them drunken bikers to kick her head in.

I’m ranting about the mountain bikers. I honestly expected more.

Trolling is writing to get a rise, I’m not trying to get any rise at all.

Well, I think I was wrong, I’ll have to write that in my diary!

I think they may be Manitou – the way the crown is shaped where it meets stanction. Semi educated guess, I think I’m right…

Doubtless, those who don’t care about secret trails don’t build.

I once got the kind help from my 7 year old son in the woods to build berm after berm, jump after jump… it took a few months of constant work & he was well pleased.
The little lad burst into tears when one day the whole place was trashed. I don’t know who did it & I doubt it was cyclists but the increase in human traffic because we built in the first place made it so.

If only I could have kept them more secret!

@kilo: Thanks for the advice – I do not need to navigate though. I just ‘need’ the requirements previously listed, don’t think I missed anything but I may be swayed by the unknown…

@toys19: yeah, the secret spot code – it’s not that secret actually. It’s just a case of being mindful of others’ hard work.

The builders don’t own it any more than the guy who found it. Neither does the queen or the council.

@pastcaring: That’s exactly what I thought… You’ve just potentially outed someones perfectly built spot – shame on you! 8O

I think that Pace used to make them back in the day – RC35, right? Ebay is your best bet, elastomer again though – I think…

@toys19: In the Victorian era, many hoaxes were thought up by desperate men trying to prove that evolution was a credible theory. They made fools of themselves & were of course caught. This does not mean that evolution is not happening though.

Big cats in the British Isles are a fact. (Educated opinion).

@dangriff: Are you riding in a group? A quick tip for you – share out the stuff that you all have a chance of using. When I go camping/climbing, we share out the food & cooking pots etc. We always stay in a group so consider that if your group splits what will happen…

Working on the basis that everything you need will be a tool…

    Mobile phone?
    Panaracer Flat Away?
Baby wipes? These are always a god send.

    Have a great ride.

Ok – KMC eh? any chain particularly then? Gold looks nice, anything really light weight, hard wearing etc?

    Thanks you lot…

I love asking real questions on this forum, you’re a real helpful bunch.

Go to Aldi, they sometimes have a (decent for a food shop) range of cycling gear & that’s where I got my bibs from – they’re not lined, are padded, look fine, feel comfortable & they were cheap as ten bags of chips.

As you all say – the fit is everything. only buy from an LBS.

My helmet is a Giro Zen. Fits me great, really sturdy & although I think that 300grams is seen as ‘no light weight’… what’s 300 grams, eh?

I don’t want to hijack but this is relevant – does anyone know if you can buy new internal pads for Giro? I have to wash mine frequently & they are looking worse for it. would be awful to have to spend another £100 just because the pads are going!

I’m using 1×9 on my HT (Renthal 34 – XT 11- 34). I find it works fine for woods, no trail centres around here & I don’t drive. Woods are fairly hard work, the trails I mean, they’re quite rocky & rooty, upy downy.

I had to change my riding style for up hill work, standing on everything. I feel stronger for it too. With the weight I’ve lost off the bike & the look being cleaner I think it’s a good move personally. If you love to sit & spin then I think you should stick with a granny ring though. If your local/frequently ridden hills are more that a 5 minute climb then stick with 22 tooth…

I should also point out that I use Egg Beaters & I’ve used Flatboys. I’ll keep clipped in because I can generate far more power that way by push pull in circles, makes 1×9 far easier.

    Peace.

I’ve read ST for 3 years (cycling on MTB for 15 though). I was sick to death of MBUK because I was growing up & I’m not a ‘dude’ any more.

Personally, I think that ST saved my passion & gave me something to read on the toilet, save from DIRT all the time…

I think that the on line content is simply not enough. The forum is the first I’ve been a member of (so I have no real right to try & compare/comment) but most seem unfriendly, sad to say.

Lastly, ED Oxley seems a real great guy & chips, I always have time for you too.

Expand the on line content & I will sign up.

@Ton: MTB on 1500 cals per day… Problems, get some Tangfastics down ya!

Seriously, the only thing I could say of minor use is that I can eat anything all day long when riding regularly. I was off the bike for a slow rebuild taking 2 months, no change in diet & gained 2 stones!!! Back on the bike now & losing 3 lbs per week.

Hope you get where you need to be, 12 miles a day will help bud, keep going.

    @chrisL:

The freehub on the Pro II that came with my ’07 Orange 5 has some nasty marks in it because of the cheap cassette that was fitted to it by Orange. Given that Hope say on the Pro II’s product information that it should only be used with cassettes that have an alloy spider (such as XTs) it is a bit cheeky of Orange to spec bikes that have Pro IIs and more basic cassettes.

That’s a perfect point about Orange – it’s plain wrong & I expect more from them.

I remember my old BMX was like that back in ’82.
