just come back from my 8th or maybe 9th ride with it on in the dark. Believe the hype – it’s changed the time I can ride by hours!!! Best 90 quid ever spent. 😀

I use it, never dropped the chain. 36 tooth Renthal – if it matters? Very cheap but well made IMO 🙂

in 1997 I worked in a factory and was riding back and forth on my Trek Y22. One back shift end I decided to go to the pub then home so kept my bike locked to the radiator in the locker room where it always stayed. The next day I got back to work and in the locker room, still attached to the radiator was one carbon frame minus almost everything else…

police were called and I told them what happened. Told them it was most likely to be someone on night shift. The only thing they did was dust it for finger prints and then ask the night shift if they’d provide finger prints for elimination purposes! No one needed to, so no one did.

As per the video above from elf: F$£k the Police!

What a bunch of Dick and Doms you lot are… 😉

CBBC is there to teach our bairns and Horrible Histories has more crap in it than any other. My 8 year old son and I regularly sing along!

I really like my Pha5e. It does wheelie a bit on the up hills but I just hang off the front. Stiff aluminium and really tuff. Underrated, me thinks…

I tried to make one with the 4 pinter (sure that’s the right size) but my naff ways shone through again… quite liked the idea of DIY mudguards though. 😳

I did notice that BB inbox didn’t match the work inbox today – that’s why, eh? Got to say, first ever BB problem.

Skill compensator? perhaps a skill magnifier!

I do love my HT but my FS’s lets me pop higher off lips, gain more grip in corners, smile more, ride longer and last but not least… keep spending hard earned cash.

go for a Giant – they’ll be as good as you get for that price and beat almost all bikes for any money. Read some reviews and I’m sure you’ll agree – the peeps on here seem to think so too… enjoy.

they’re £89 on eBay with a free helmet mount and free postage. I definitely recommend them to anyone serious enough to want to spend that! 😀

Well, if you want my opinion my new light is great. I have it bar mounted at the minute and the flood is great. Good on the fields but even better in the woods. It also lasted easily for 1.5 hours on full. Me likey!

Damn, I always push hard no matter when I ride! my mountain jackets that I mentioned before are used for climbing and hiking/camping. I suppose that this is not as strenuous as riding but didn’t think of it…

Thanks for all the replies but one more question… Do you all feel ripped off like me? You bought a breathable and waterproof jacket that lets you get damp with your own moisture!

    Damn marketing hype… 🙄

I do not drive so I ride locally every day. I’m lucky enough to live in Tyne & Wear. We have the C2C which has fire roads branching off every half mile and taking you to loads of great places. One place in particular, if anyone knows it, is Kong woods near Chester le street. I know of a group called the Odd Socks who I’m sure must ride here though I’ve never seen them. I mention this place because it’s so good. It feels like a trail centre without people. Miles of singletrack that’s well used but by who??? I’m always alone every weekend in there. Anyone near Chester le street should try it, you’ll most likely love it.

I’m riding a Pha5e with Fox 140’s on and I’m loving it. Reduced to 100’s and it feels really wrong, all the frame obviously…

A well set up 100 fork can handle anything a 140 can though, it’s all about fork set up I reckon.

    Stay safe everyone!

I ride 1×9. 34 on the front and 11-34 on the back, 9speed. Love it, wouldn’t go back, does all I ask and can’t see a need for more except on roads going down steep.

    Hey Troy, welcome!

The situation you’ve described seems to warrant some thought. I’m sure the more (and less come to think of it) knowledgeable amongst us will do all we can.

By the way, in the world that we are all part of, Grey or Black bikes are called ‘Stealth’. Give it a search and have a good look.

Show us your bike when you’ve chosen, cheers. 🙂

Maxles are the bolt through 12mm axle on the back of a bike. Makes it nice and stiff apparently.

As a Fox user I’m only pretty sure that Maxle is on the fork too, them and Maxle light. Both 20mm.

@moneix: I have had my Pha5e built for a few months now using 140mm Fox talas… they do have the problem of the adjusters hitting the frame, just. That’s using a Hope headset. never mind though, it hasn’t been a problem. I put a wrap of rubber around the tube and all is good. Did you get sorted?

Tis an excellent frame, turns lush, really tight! As I’m 5.11 I use a 410mm Thompson seatpost (layback) and it’s great.

It’s about this time of year that they seem to hit, had 2x hardtails stolen sept last year from my garden, as well as a few neighbours’ bikes too.
They hit our neighbours again last week – I’m also in Southampton by the way :/

The bikes are living indoors at the moment

Indoors is a great idea – wouldn’t leave a few grands worth of anything outdoors!

I bet not may riders riding alone take night time pictures of their bike leaning up against a signpost etc!

Photo challenge time? Yes Please!!! 🙂

I’ll go first! I love the dark, do get scared sometimes but that’s the fun of the dark I reckon. I always have been a kid at heart.

I’m going to change the oil and seals today in my Fox 32 Talas 140mm from 2008. My first time, wish me luck and please post any useful tips guys because like I said it’s my first time.

In fact, a question… I have enduro seals in right now. I bought standard Fox seals last week new. Can I use the foam rings in my new pack and the older enduro outers? would like to know before I try!

    Thanks, Rob.

yep, it’s a personal thing. I have an SDG Bell Air on a Thompson. The saddle has always been right but I did notice a difference when I swapped posts recently. I used to use an FSA and it flexed a little so helped with my ultra stiff ali frame. I wish I could help recommend something, good luck on the ride, OP. 😉
