” I honestly can’t tell any difference between my Fox 140 RL QR and my Rockshox Lyric wound to 140 (20mm”
    Really?
    Where/what do you ride?

I ride local woods that are a lot harder than any trail centre I’ve been to. Lots of roots/rocks and very steep in lots of places. I’m not the type to mince about, no riding god either but I can hammer a bit.

Look, I’m not saying that bolt thru is bad, just can’t tell the difference.

When I first got the Lyrics I actually tested them riding in ruts and trying to put them out of shape coming up/out – felt great. I then tried the Fox dong the same thing at the same speed, I was surprised to feel no difference. 😯

Maybe it’s just the Fox have a stiff chassis?

I couldn’t say the same for all QR forks as I haven’t ridden anything else.

They may be more secure but I honestly can’t tell any difference between my Fox 140 RL QR and my Rockshox Lyric wound to 140 (20mm).

I’ve hammered both and feel nothing different apart from the Fox being a little smoother.

No one can call it a fashion though – a 20mm bolted wheel simply cannot fall off, so there’s good enough reason to buy.

Thanks all – New Renthal 34 front and 3 month old XT cassette. Chain is too long, going to use the rondo method.

    CHEERS ALL! 😀

So realman is up to some bad stuff? Why oh why do people do this kind of thing? I hope that someone will oblige you Jimmy – he deserves what he gets and I don’t mean getting paid for duff gear.

Positive feedback so far. Did Marzocchi have their act in order by 2010? I’m hearing horror stories about some of their forks, however hoping they were sorted by then?

Good question, can you please let me know what you know Jedi? I’m certainly interested (in purchase) but would like to know more…

    Lets be honest.

    Baggies = Fashion over function.

Very true but I for one like baggies. 🙄 I always wear Lycra UNDERNEATH though, I couldn’t do without it for comfort.

Two pairs of mono M4s I’ve owned have been crap but that was on a downhill bike, they are probably mediocre for cross country.

Simply set them up correctly, loads don’t and that can be the ONLY reason that Hope aren’t appreciated by some.

My Hope M4 Evo are set up properly and they’ll work on any track – proved!

I stick to the plan but when I get back I feel so energised that normally I think – I could do that again! I’m blessed with local rough beauties of single-tracks but I’m also blessed with a family that wants me in the house/about them.

Could I ask for anything more????

I’ve got a set of M4 Evo’s using 203 floating rotors. I’ve used many different brakes before and all I would like to say is that my Hopes are the best brakes I’ve ever used.

They NEED to be set up correctly in order for them to have the best power but get them right and nothing compares. Some brakes are more powerful but none are more usable.

Modulation/feel is were the Hopes win hands down over everything else. I now couldn’t go as fast without Hope brakes. I’ve gotten used to the feel and nothing else will do – usable power is worth every penny.

The brakes that others say are more powerful are usually wooden feeling to me, very on/off.

    Super4: you’ll love em!

    Well done HOPE! 😀

Look at the top boy, wor Danny. He has the ‘fun’ bit in his riding. I reckon that goes a long way – he said himself though ‘pushy parents’.

I used to think that a powerhouse of a rider made a huge difference, not any more – Danny is strong but he’s light and little small. Troy is still a bairn, look at him go!

Good video, thanks for posting. There seems to be a few coming up recently.

    Mongoose, know your roots.
    Hope, technology to a tea.
Orange, it is what it is.

    Anyone know of more please?

Do you have a red car, red clothes…in fact, dare I say it, is red your favourate colour?

Actually, no. My fave colour is Black, mate. The wall is just a coincidence.

Maybe I will take those tyres off though, not perfect for mud… It still rides bloody great though.

Nothing wrong with Carrera bikes, hard to beat for the money.

    Damn right, enjoy it!

My highlight was testing/feeling my new wheels on a well known trail. 20 miler on new Hope Arch EX and going from Mavic Crossrides they were bloody ace! They must be lighter but so much stiffer too. The difference was like I was riding with brakes skimming before!

The ride was really muddy, wet, loose and worth every second, only fell off once.

I made a new friend too, someone else who always rides alone so we will meet up from now on, he seems canny. Also about the same kind of ability. He even mentioned that because he rides alone, he holds back – something I’ve been doing for a few years. I can’t wait to get out and shred!

I was offered a pure gold ring of huge proportions by a man in an Audi A6. He said that he was lost and had no money to get his family back to where he lived (about 150 miles away). The family were all in the car too! It looked real, I didn’t have the money so I WOULD HAVE BEEN SCAMMED! 😯

    Is there a dubbed version?

There’s an English speaking version – I got it from a Pirate 😉

I too think it was a cool film, the wife and I really enjoyed it.

most of these bikes are mint.

    I think I will rob!

Im on the hunt for purple ano disc rotor bolts and purple headset. Or perhaps, although it wont match, a Rasta Chris King headset might be an option. A wee nod to my second favourite past-time as a teenager!

I’ve seen a purple ano stem that I almost went for. Cant decide whether to go white or purple with the stem though.

It is all a bit ridiculous, but it’s fun.

Bobby – go on, you need to go for a purple headset! check out DMR? good luck dude.

    ti van nicholas.

Now there’s a bike that everyone can admire? Brit bike that is the worst frame we’ve all seen or ridden. Guess what, they’ll be a collectors piece! 😉

It’ll never look like a knock off Realman, don’t worry. Copy cats always choose cool frames to rip!

    Thanks Bol.

I’ve never tried Specialized so may do that. Also I’m wanting to go tubeless for the first time but I’m scared of needing to change tyres too much… Would the ground controls be okay in most conditions, in your opinion?

Who has ever seen a carbon frame break due to fatigue?

I once saw a Trek Carbon Y22 snap spectacularly – the whole seat post arm snapped off. It frightened me a lot because I was 3 feet away on the exact same bike!

No idea of whether it was fatigue though…

    Mine was later stolen! 🙁

Thanks Jturn, that makes sense. If you can, you should go for the Talas because I’m sure they would suit your needs… Lots have posted comments about them not being as slick as Floats but I cannot tell any difference. And no, I don’t ride like a fairy, I’m pretty fast and rough with the Trek, it takes a good hammering. 😀

I’ve got a EX8 from 08 with the 130 float but have also run Talas 140 on it. I’ve honestly found it to be a little better but only because I can now drop the fork for climbs to 120.

Does anyone know why the newer models have been reduced to 120? have they got a different head angle? Would love to know!

Grrreat! Thanks Flow. I just hope my brake is in the back of that Fedex van…
