Not 100% true, im now running 9 speed with a 10 speed SLX clutched mech. Thanks to this forum, all it took was a 6mm spacer under the cable and it works perfectly.

CV grease from a car place, 1kg tub will outlast me. I use either that or copper grease for threads on my bike, bike specific products are just five times the price.

I always used to get my LBS to do headsets.
Then i just went for it myself with a screwdriver and a hammer, then a hammer and a lump of wood.

Im going to use a square nut, file/sand it down to 7mm, then cut a 1mm groove for the cable. Also drill out the threads.

Just ordered the SLX dont think the XT is worth an extra £20. Sure i have some square nuts somewhere.

One last thing thats confusing me is the direct mount, whats that? Looking at the XT shadow plus.

Are you using a spacer? Been wanting a clutch mech on my 9 speed for ages.

Just stumbled on this, think i will give it ago with my X0 9 speed shifters, anyone confirmed if the SLX mech works.
