Quite a few people on here have had bad experiences with Fox forks and even more think the service intervals take the pee. Do enough reading and you’ll find loads of complaints about most manufacturers’ forks. (Except maybe Marzocchi from a few years ago, but if heavy is an issue then avoid!)

Fox forks are loverly and buttery smooth, but that does come with a downside in that you need to take care of them; not so much if you don’t ride all that often or all that hard. Doing regular wiper/seals and oil change services isn’t hard, but depending on how much you like fettling you might find it a PITA. Having said that I think all forks should be serviced regularly – they cost lots and I like them to work properly :)

On the issue of cost of full service (i.e. by Mojo), yes they need to be done more often than other forks(unlikely to be less than 12 – 18 month intervals IME – dependant on how often you ride) and that would definately put me off buying them new at RRP, but as I’m never going to shell out that kind of money I don’t have an issue with it.

Can you let me know your emailer mau00149? For some reason I can’t view your profile :(
I’ll send you all info re my forks and some pretty pictures.

I’ve currently got a set of 160mm Domains (fixed travel) which some would consider overkill, but I like doing silly things on bikes now and again.

I have a set of 36 TALAS in good nick if you’re interested, was looking for £300 quid really, but am open to mature negotiation :)

    P.S.

So a SS with rear tensioner should mechanically be the same as being in any particular gear in a 3 x 9 set up in terms of chain tension at any point in the power cycle

Sounds sensible; have seen a Demo9 and a Tr Blindside set up as SS so would guess it’ll work with most bikes.

No need to pick it up – if leaving it in our ajoining passage is good enough for my neighbours then why should anyone bother?

Really hoping one of them stands in it before I do.

Skills are required, but its not silly full on; some tracks are pretty easy.
And you don’t have to be fast – its your holiday, so no pressure.
    Would suggest a 6″ bike though…

So he sat and waited for the next rabbit. He waited and waited, and eventually died of starvation.

“Apparently” if you eat nothing but rabbit you die quicker than eating nothing at all. So would he have been better off if loadsa rabbits had topped themselves for his culinary pleasure, hence dying more quickly and not being hungry in the process?

I’ve got pinhead skewers and they ‘look’ like they might do the job, but I’ve never tried to undo them without the correct tool – and as far as I know no-one else has either!

The pinhead seat clamp is roobish and the headset lock I’ve got just happens to not fit the wider gauge newer ‘standard’ thread on my racer.
Customer service re the above 2 issues was non-existant.

Another Switchbacks fan here – best accomodation (and food) in the area by all and my accounts: http://www.catifalarga.com/catifalargaen.html

With pool, many miles from beach, but has the plus of not sharing with hundreds of lobster coloured sun-seekers.

The Pony Path on Cadair is a bit boggy at the mo and the corners towards the bottom of the bridleway up to it are frigging slippy! If you stick to the farm track instead of doing the river crossing you won’t get too covered in cowshit.

    The top is all good.

    “this” is:

    –pronoun
    1. (used to indicate a person, thing, idea, state, event, time, remark, etc., as present, near, just mentioned or pointed out, supposed to be understood, or by way of emphasis): This is my coat.
    2. (used to indicate one of two or more persons, things, etc., referring to the one nearer in place, time, or thought; opposed to that ): This is Liza and that is Amy.
    3. (used to indicate one of two or more persons, things, etc., implying a contrast or contradistinction; opposed to that ): I’d take that instead of this.
    4. what is about to follow: Now hear this! Watch this!
    –adjective
    5. (used to indicate a person, place, thing, or degree as present, near, just indicated or mentioned, or as well-known or characteristic): These people are my friends. This problem has worried me for a long time.
    6. (used to indicate the nearer in time, place, or thought of two persons, things, etc.; opposed to that ).
    7. (used to imply mere contradistinction; opposed to that ).
    8. (used in place of an indefinite article for emphasis): I was walking down the street when I heard this explosion.
    –adverb
    9. (used with adjectives and adverbs of quantity or extent) to the extent or degree indicated: this far; this softly.
    —Idiom
    10. with this, following this; hereupon: With this, he threw down his glass and left the table.

    None. Boring, really boring.
If you have to “ride” indoors I’d recommend spinning classes – nothing like real cycling and kinda painful. But not boring :)

Kinder Loop (Vertebrate Graphics Dark Peak book) starting from Edale is a superb ride – Roych Clough (blue in the book, but pretty rough these days) is a storming descent (shame about the gates) and the “rocky riverbed” from Rushop Edge is great fun. Finishing with descending Jacobs Ladder is pretty stunning (if often covered in walkers).

Some folks prefer to ride it the other way round going up Jacobs, but they’re all freaking mental!

    And wrong :)

switchbacks make you climb like a beyatch!

You mean for the all mountain holidays.
    The DH is DH (baby)

The reason you have to climb in Bubion is you can’t uplift on the best trails and if you think they’re making you work hard you should try it without the van ride in the morning and picking you up from the bar in the afternoon – you really realise how much climbing is cut out when you ride round there solo.

Rob, what age are your TALAS’s? think I want a new fork really mind…

    Bit of a funny story…
They came from a 2007 RM Slayer but… the lowers, stanchions, crown, steerer, TALAS adjuster and probably some of the internals all had to be replaced for various reasons so they’re now more of an 08/09 model.
    Something like Trigger’s broom.

All work done by Mojo and I’ve kept the receipts & service forms (somewhere!)

The funny bit? The cost to me (lots)! Only sent tham in for a service, but ended up with a practically new set for about half of RRP.

Can provide pics or any other info if needed.

    P.S.
4 DT Swiss cheese rims (apparently made to ding on impact rather than fold in two so you can still get down the hill?? As a serial rim taco-er this should appeal, but having a severly dinged rim within a few descents made me feel a little nervy :) Have now got 729 EXs with only a couple of dings)

    In order of shiteness:

1 Speedball seatpost (saddle rocked back on descents, overtightened, stripped internal thread. Fixed it to find uppy-downy motion then non-existant)

2 Crank Bros power pump (only managed to use it successfully when tyre completely flat, otherwise let out any existing air and was mostly powerless)

3 Crank Bros acid pedals (very happy with egg beaters, also like mallets even though they have a bad habit of falling to bits, but acids are f**king lame! The needle bearings rust and fall to bits with the merest sight of water and are impossible to replace. Got exchange on them 3 times before going for mallets)

Have come to the conclusion Crank Bros stuff looks nice and sounds a good idea, but is largely shiiiiite!

Seeing as no-one else has bothered…

I’m a 5’7″ shortarse with a medium Enduro (06 model). Works fine for me with a 50mm stem which I swap for a 35mm one for uplift days. Plenty standover.
Used to ride a RM Slayer in medium that has slightly shorter virtual TT length, but didn’t notice the difference when I changed.
I reckon I’m dead on the cross-over point of sizing between small & medium for Specializeds so could go either way, altough I do have to jump to get on when the saddle is at climbing height :)

Out of interest how much? (If it’s not prying :-) )
I’ve got one of those frames sitting in my shed that has a slightly bent rear triangle and I’m thinking of getting it replaced.

Wouldn't worry about the use of carbon for the stays – the guides at Switchbacks have somehow managed to break a number of sxc frames, but always through the metal.

Mine is scratched to buggery all over the carbon and has a few flat spots but never even a creaky noise.

I did similar a few years ago putting diesel in a petrol car, realised what I was doing and switched to petrol. Asked a mechanic if it would be ok, he said yes, but if I'd put petrol in a diesel car (even a small amount) he said I shouldn't even start it.

He may need a mechanic to drain the fuel line.

Just checked the current price of Blizzard frames on Wiggle – £870!!
WTF?? They were £650 last year.

I got a blizzard frame from Wiggle half price some months ago and am very happy with it, but would consider it a silly amount of money at full price.
