RE: Medical advice. Everyone keeps telling me to do it as I feel & which is a bit un-nerving, but things like range of movement have come on suprisingly quickly so I’ve been pushing myself to do it til it hurts a bit and then have another go later in the day the same.

@nsbikescore1 That sounds pretty amazing! Shame I didn’t know earlier – ho-hum. I’ll have a good read up on it all later.

I reckon I’m a week away from a bit of tentative road riding – still got green bruises and it’s not that great sticking my arm up straight, but at least my shoulder doesn’t crack anymore! Think it’ll be another 3 weeks before I venture off road due to the necessity to pull on the bars.

@nsbikescore1 Did you get the laser treatment on the NHS? I did mine 7ish weeks ago and it’s going well, but I’d like to know more about options should it happen again. (This is my 2nd time so far)

@ianv I wondered about the fig of 8 – by my internet research they seem to have fallen out of fashion.

Would have thought the bottoms of them would burn with foil, maybe just use the top bits that don’t?

Nothing like a holiday romance is there?

Maybe he’s got that gift like Christopher Walken used have before he took to storing timepieces in his rectum and when he stuck it in her he got a glimpse of her in the future looking like a human-trout hybrid and Mr Floppy came to town.

It’s a ‘bolt thru’ for the forks (QR bolt thru??).

Bought one a while back, but unable to ride at the mo so don’t know if it improves stiffness. Hub would need modifying/changing if currently using regular QR as is larger diameter – about 9mm :)

that ‘dale seems very nice for the cash.

Their CAAD frames are rated as being some of the best alloy frames going & claimed to be better than some carbon ones.

Just looking at the last part of the post, if I go with the build up option. What’s worth spending extra cash on?

Frame is most important thing (of the bike itself) & worth spending money on – anything else can be upgraded over time if you feel the need. No point having nice components hanging off a frame made out of marzipan :)

Good wheels make a difference to ride quality, but for any really noticable difference you’d have to start parting with $$

As mentioned, fit is important; moreso than on an MTB as you tend to be in the same position for extended amounts of time. Shops can help a lot here.

Agree with DTF. DH tubes split (apparently).
I use dual ply HRs with whatever xc type tubes are cheapest (and rated to inflate adequately).

You’re supposed to be caned by the end of the class :)

My normal Saturday used to consist of: ride to gym, Body Combat, Body Pump, ride/struggle home and sleep for most the afternoon.

These days I’m more sensible, although I do do the odd double spin class session, but have to hold back quite a lot in the first one.

I was cool with hitting 30.

I did not like reaching 31 as it was an odd number and I don’t like odd numbers.

Can’t abide an odd number myself, although 31 is a Mersenne prime so is partially forgiven.

The deeds to our house specifically state we cannot operate an abattoir on our propery.

If only I’d realised before we moved in.

Regardless of colour – if they’re the shape of the pedal mustard posted a piccy of I’d be interested in a pair & would offer postage, a donation to a charity of your choice and un-ending deference in return.

Just checked out what PPdS involves – do not get a Big Hit!!

It can be ridden up mountains, I have done so, but its a hell of an effort. They were Welsh mountains & I reckon climbing in the Alps on one would be a nightmare :)

I’d be looking for a Rocky Mountain Slayer (pref SXC), 05/06 Spesh Enduro or similar 6″ travel bike for something like this that is ok to climb on & great for descending. SX Trail could be ok, but would be a little harder than an Enduro to climb on.

Re: size. Hard to say. I know a guide who’s 6’2″ & rides medium bikes, but he’s pretty skinny, if you’re wide as well as tall a large could be more suitable.
I’m 5’8″ and have a mix of small and medium bikes. For me medium = a bit big but very stable and small = very chuckable/easy to jump.

I had a similar finger issue on a bike I’d used regularly for long descents with no probs. – went on an uplift day @ Cwmcarn and 6 runs in and my fingers huuurt! Changed the spring in my forks for a softer one and since then no probs.

Speed stuff is probably the best value for money body armour out there at the mo – large range avaliable on CRC. I’ve got one of their DH jackets and its rather good, fits better than my old 661 did (but that could be luck).

My experience of 661 DH leg armour isn’t great. The ones I had were ok, but didn’t like staying up without an additional thingy to keep them in place. Have now had Raceface ones for 5 years and much more impressed with them. If you’re not going to be making a habit out of this sort of thing 2nd hand is probably the way to go.

Re Bike: Just happen to have a 2009 Big Hit in medium that needs a loving home. Now no use to me since I stumped up the cash for a “real” DH bike. If you’re interested send me a mail and we can discuss.

I’ve got one of these up in my back passage (fnarr). Not cheap but very robust and wider grip than I can manage so should suit even the most munkey-armed fellows.
