maybe Id unclip at least one foot for at least some of it ..

    Bad idea.

Why not take at least one hand off the bars while your at it?
Maybe cover your eyes with it.

I like your thinking Ton! However… FC land etc. I’d be surprised **** amazed if we got the go-ahead. I’m always looking out for opportunities for self uplifts when I ride and the only place it’s usually a goer is on FC land – if the gates are open 🙂

Option 2 for me. Sort of.

If I find I’m sliding around a bit when the muddy times come I get some new tyres and use them til they wear out, or the mud reappears.

I have a few pairs of part worn tyres in the shed 🙂

    Maybe I should re-think my strategy…

Sheldon Brown says not to remove it, but he is a roadie dead

He didn’t remove the factory grease and looked what happened to him!

    Long live his memory.

New chains come pre-lubricated with a grease-type lubricant which has been installed at the factory. This is an excellent lubricant, and has been made to permeate all of the internal interstices in the chain.
This factory lube is superior to any lube that you can apply after the fact.

Some people make the bad mistake of deliberately removing this superior lubricant. Don’t do this!

The factory lubricant all by itself is usually good for several hundred miles of service if the bike is not ridden in wet or dusty conditions. It is best not to apply any sort of lube to a new chain until it is clearly needed, because any wet lube you can apply will dilute the factory lube.

    Says Sheldon: http://sheldonbrown.com/chains.html

Public Enemy, touring Fear of a Black Planet.

2nd time I saw them (last year) was for the FoaBP 20th anniversary tour – I’m happy to say they’ve improved a lot.

Speaking of cake… I had the !BEST CAKE OF MY LIFE! at Hughenden Manor[/url] on Saturday. The lamb hot-pot I followed it up with was also superior to the normal fare at Nat. Trust properties and really put the tracle tart at Cliveden the following day to shame.

The riding looked decent too, nice woods, flowy singletrack – quite a lot of it being bridleways, and good scenery.

Shame I’m injured and haven’t ridden for the past 2 weeks.

    2 WEEKS! Pah!

Not heard back from him yet Gbloke. His FC contact doesn’t work Mondays I think; I’ll give him a ring tomorrow morning and see if he can badger her about it.

Any feedback on the Cli-Machx trail at Machynlleth? Worth a trip down?

I’d go for Nant yr Arian instead if accompanied by novices, but that really would be a long drive (mind you I’ve done it from Leicester & back in a day 😀 )

Climachx is all about one descent really, the bits of singletrack on the way to it are pretty good though and it’s got some challenging climbing. In the past 4 years I’ve only done the descent and not bothered with the rest as it seems like a waste of time – as the descent is soooo much fun!

Novices might find it a bit much as it’s a bit rough (personally I hope it never gets resurfaced) and hard to go fast on without a bit of skill/balls/idea what’s coming next, but they’ll get down in one piece – there’s nothing particularly scary there and I reckon they’ll love it – but might suffer from a bit of arm pump 🙂

Check what’s open there before you go as there has been some logging work, apparently postponed due to dormice or something, but it may restart.

anyone take a guess what bike they were talking about?

    also from the same article

Not only did bracing ourselves against the frame’s massive stiffness feel great, but we found that keeping pole position was vital.

With innuendo bingo like that it must have been Cove’s latest.

Coffee could be good. I usu. add powdered cumin, coriander and a decent pile of grated 100% cacao to make it nice & rich.

I’ve just swapped my rear one for an EX729 cos I made it square

Only used it for 6 or 7 rides, so value for money it was not, but then I have been doing some silly things of late.

The point of them, is exactly the same point as heli tape

So you can be all precious about your “pride & joy”?

Or to sell you something you can add to your bike that you don’t need and won’t make your riding time any more enjoyable, but will be something to point out to your mates that you’ve got.

    Like a dropper seatpost

What’s the point of them? (Serious question).

Some people occupy their time colour matching their components.

It’s a good distraction from riding bikes, which is clearly far too much effort to be enjoyable.

^ Not what I’ve been led to believe – seats wise. However, I understand the 8 seater is owned by him, so you may be correct.

If necessary I shall clarify this point and, if you are correct, GW, I appreciate your intervention.

    Bad news/Good news.

Just spoken to Tally; in theory we’ve got the go ahead, in practice there are logging operations which *may* mean the top uplift road is blocked.

    🙁

Clearly we wouldn’t want to gamble that we’ll be able to get past the men at work so I’ve asked him to find out whether we could run it at Ae instead. He sounded positive as hopes to know in the next couple of days.

    Optomistic 🙂

Hopefully this would still suit people?

Tramadol did nothing for pain relief for me and made me a bit loopy (in a bad way). One of my friends told me not to take it as it had made her Dad really depressed – totally ignored her as the codine had stopped being effective after eating buckets of it so went ahead and took it for a couple of days – 50mg dose.

A few days later went back to the doc’s complaining that it did **** all and he upped the dose to 200mg slow release – a week later I was quite depressed, so I came off it – the depression got much worse. And stayed with me for a few shitty weeks.

A couple of years later, waking with a king size hangover, I couldn’t find any painkillers in the house aside from the evil Tramadol so I took one and spent the next few hours walking round the house (hangover intact) talking very loudly to myself

    Terrible stuff IME.
