…not that similar!

Yeah sounds like nonsense. If they didn’t make clear it was coming from the US, it’s distributor’s problem.

Here’s my obligatory link to the geometry on geometrygeeks

Actually saw one of these at the weekend at Inners. Was going too fast to look properly though. True story.

Yes, it’s a scam.

EDIT: that’s “no I haven’t tried it, but I read a few lines and know it’s a scam beyond any doubt.”

Geometry comparison thing wot we made:

Yeti ASR vs SB4.5 (in medium)

Add your old bike too, if it’s not already in the database.

If it’s any use, you could use the geometry comparision site we built here

We don’t have the Yeti ARC yet, but you could add it yourself then compare side-by-side.

Cambusbarron & ridgeline above the North Third reservoir?

Or over to Comrie Croft?

Yeah I just discovered that… converts to text pretty accurately but doesn’t retain table structure :(

Want to see the geometry numbers side-by-side with your current bike?

@chiefgrooveguru yes point taken – thinking about a calculator thingy. Quite a bit of work but I know I’d use it!

What do you ride at the moment? Want to compare with the Switchback on this website wot we built?

Stanton Switchback 631 mk2 2017 on geometrygeeks.bike

Dunno if we have your current bike yet, but you can add it easily yourself if not.

How many of these experiences were with your own bike on a turbo with an experienced eye, and how many on a fully adjustable rig with power meter etc? Worth paying more for the latter?

Have never looked at Pedal Cover but that sounds promising.

We’re with Hiscox… definitely not the cheapest, but excellent service talking to real people and no need to specify individual items/bikes. And no limit on bike value!

@stevieid – that configurator is cool! We’ll see what we can learn from it. And yes, we’re THIS CLOSE to being able to add free-text notes :)

Cheers all.

@gray – at the moment it’s only data that’s been added. We’re thinking about calculated values. The idea of a graphical overlay keeps coming up. We were playing with it at the weekend in CAD, but my worry is that assumptions will need to be made that could be significant – e.g. headset cup height would affect head angle significantly, sagged or unsagged geometry… We have an update in the works to do a better job of ‘explaining’ the differences on the compare page, but it’s not yet properly visual. Your tool looks awesome.

@Kayak23 – yes anyone can add anything. Anyone can also edit anything, and hopefully most people will add a link to the source so we can catch typos etc! We do store revision history behind the scenes too. We also have plans for some pretty sophisticated error-checking based on statistics around the parameters, but that’s for another day!

@andybrad – thanks. I’ll add it to the dropdown list later! In future it will learn as folks add new brands and remember them. For now, you can still type in Liteville and it’ll work fine.

A bit of a status update for those interested…
– When adding a bike, can now paste in a geometry table (e.g. from manuf website) and it interprets it pretty damn well
– Lots more parameters enabled, like suspension travel, shock size, recommended height
– Lots more bikes added (we’re now over 900)
– …and I have a backlog of spreadsheets to bulk upload from interested manufacturers!
– Miscellaneous user experience tweaks to make it more betterer[/*]

Have a look here, give it a go, and let me know what you think!

Cheers :)

I’ve added both V1 and V2 to our geometrygeeks.bike site here

Hopefully that’ll make it easier to compare to what you’re riding now!

PS I trialled one last year as an endurance roadie… loved it.

@jdtm – I see you added the S1, cheers. I added the Pickenflick table so you can see the comparison here

<shameless plug>

geometrygeeks.bike mightl help you compare geometry between frames. I don’t think we have those bikes in the database yet though – you’d need to add them (it’s easy)

Onshape is a good and free CAD package that you could use to design the parts yourself. By the founding team of Solidworks.

I then use Protolabs and/or i.Materialise to make bits.

However, if it needs structural strength, the various plastic materials available might not be any use to you, and the sintered metal options could be an expensive way to get a weak metal.

Finding a small CNC machining firm might suit? I can recommend one in Livingston who’ll take on small jobs if he has time between bigger customers.

Local steel fabricator having a quiet January does sound like it might be a winner!

Wilburt – yep that’s exactly the idea. Anyone can add a bike. Have a go!

We’ve tried to make it as easy as possible so if you copy/paste a table from a website, it works out what each column/row is. Not perfect by any means, but not bad for a dumb computer.

Yes we’re working on images – we have something in development that looks great on desktop but not yet on mobile… may have to make it desktop only.

Good thought on filtering listings by type.

I have a pair of Oakleys with two sets of lenses – one transitions, one dark polarised. From RX Sport, whose customer service and price matching I recommend.

Cost me a freaking fortune (and will do again when my prescription changes), but they are really excellent.

Rarely suffer from fogging and easy to clean.

I’ve not used it much, but Onshape seems really promising. It’s free until you want to have more than 10 files not accessible by the general public.

Designed by the guys that founded Solidworks, so if you’ve ever used that then it feels quite intuitive.

My 2 cents…

Really like the wall clock. £150 is too much for me personally though – but maybe I’m not your market, coz I only spend money on 1) bike stuff and 2) fancy electronics.

Images on your website – a bit meh. You want ‘in situ’ shots in trendy modern houses, y’know with a nice dog passing through looking cool ;) Seriously though, create value by association with other nice design-y things.

Also, NOTHS would be where I’d expect to see it.

GOOD LUCK!

Upgraded my 2011 MBP with a SSD, and maxed out the RAM too. Totally worth it – it’s a flying machine!

Did the same with my wife’s 2009 MBP.

I just googled a few how-to videos, used a wee HDD caddy from Amazon (£7?) and it was easy. Trickiest part was finding a good quality philips screwdriver to get the back off. Size 00 I think? Tiny.

Now, if anyone could direct me to a decent battery supplier…

Well we were in today… very disappointed I must say.

Little hot food available at 3pm – no nachos, no chips. Slow service, waitressing girls looked bored, and although it didn’t affect me there were MOUNTAINS of dishes and glasses awaiting to be cleaned behind the till. Really untidy looking.

I do want them to succeed though – anyone know how to contact them and I’ll give them my feedback?

Any more recent reviews of the cafe now they’ve had a bit of time to establish themselves? Heading down there tomorrow and if there aren’t nachos on the menu there will be trouble!

Just to say I’m fascinated by the OPs original question.

My wife rides horses (and bikes) and has a lesson every 1-2 weeks, pays £18-30 depending what it is, who’s coaching, how many other riders.

I’d happily pay £20 for an hour’s ride with 2-3 other bikers of a similar level and a decent coach as long as it was local – 15 min drive max.

Maybe reason it doesn’t exist is that many ‘recreational’ horsists do aim to compete, even at a low level, and are judged on technique. Lots of nursery/novice classes around in SJ and dressage. It’s kinda the only way up from riding in your own yard’s arena.

By contrast, a recreational MTBer may aspire not to race but to go for a weekend in the Lakes or in Torridon, or to ride a big drop in the local woods. Even if you do want to race and choose something easy to enter, if it’s Mountain Mayhem you really don’t need good technical skills to get round. Nobody judging technique and giving you a scoresheet either!

Also, near Fort William – big sections of the West Highland Way are amazing riding. From the top of the Devil’s staircase heading north, for example. And a section going north out of Bridge of Orchy.

The Ciaran Path is up there too – infamous natural singletrack – but I found it to be several levels of technical riding above my skill level. I reckoned I could ride, too!
