I ALWAYS prefer to be shown round by the owner as you can get a feel as to why they are moving which might help you in the offer stages. Nice to chat to them to – you can sell yourself as a buyer – I’ve found that some people are really cold and distant when viewing houses which surely doesn’t help at all – if you get on with a seller you are more likely for them to prefer you to buy it!

When it came to people buying our house I wanted to show people round as I wanted it to go to a first time buyer rather than a buy to let investor.

MM – the buyer doesn’t have to do that, they just ring up HN and ask for a viewing. HN then contact you and ask if it’s ok, everything is also logged online too in your account area so you can see your viewings that you have and keep track of them. The buyer doesnt need to set up an account or anything. You can change or cancel viewings or arrange times via the net as well as phone but HN always ring the prospective buyer and confirm via email afterwards.

What was quite refreshing is that they did operate out of normal 9-5 hours too which a lot of EA’s don’t.

I actually spoke to the 3 sets of people who viewed our house and they said House Network were great. They operate a booking system for viewings all online which is really easy to use. They chase up for feedback from the viewers very well too.

They negotiated a great sale price for me, got £7k more than I was expecting – we asked £112500 which was really cheeky but got £110k, I was reckoning on £105k absolute max so was very chuffed.

They don’t force you to make any decisions about how much to sell for but are happy to go through the options you have and help you decide which way to go.

I had an update conversation with my personal negotiator a week after my house went up for sale and was expecting to have to go through everything on the phone but they had already done loads of homework and investigation on the market local to me and gave me some great advice on what to do and what to expect.

Photos they took were very good too, bloke who came round to take them had 2 hi end SLR’s and knew how to use them too, got a great floor plan and virtual tour in with the price too.

From what I hear of high street agents they are just rubbish compared to the service I received, at least in my area.

I went with house network – I am very demanding and critical of bad service as I worked in retail a long time but they were so good I couldn’t fault them at all. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone, brilliant service all round. I went for the premier service.

I paid £700 up front and nothing more to pay. The premier package was £599+VAT and I paid £99 for the EPC as its done at the same time. I had a voucher code for 5% off (EKMJJZUBHM if anyone else uses them, should still work) which I used to make it £700.

A friend who is selling their house is using them too. My house sold in 2 weeks!!!

I’m not drilling any holes in the wall I’m afraid.

The walls appear to be hollow so I assume plasterboard with a skim on top. I don’t think any particular “system” was used as such as only part of the room is semi underground.

It is bare plaster as the moment so I assume if I put the skirting on first on the bare plaster that would be better.

I like the idea of putting the worktop supports on legs which are also attached to the wall, that’s a great solution.

Any bright ideas on how to brace the skirting against the wall while the adhesive dries?

I had some PX Fleegle bars on and they were great, well worth a try for £5 at the moment. They give a nice sweep back (17 degree) which is really comfy but the forward throw either side of the stem stop the reach being shortened.

Rusty – didn’t change the stem initially as the length was fine. Playing around with it at the moment as I’ve had a very bad neck so I had to put on a mega high rise stem but hopefully going back to a normal one soon.

My TDF. Some people on here think I’ve ruined it and it’s handling but it rides beautifully and lovely and comfy for my recent 3 day C2C.

Changed drops for flat bars and hydraulic discs and Deore 9sp STI’s.

Now got Salsa 17 degree bend Moto bars on it and Dura Ace/Paul Component thumb shifters.

Making a profit at the end isn’t the point of the program really. It’s there to show you that you can buy a car and fix it up yourself. They tend to tell you how much the labour would be if you took it to a shop.

A lot of people don’t like MB but he is what he is, a cheeky used car dealer. He probably knows more about how to buy and sell cars than everyone on here put together – yes he doesn’t know the slight minute details of every marque but he’s the sort of chap I’d love to have around when I’m buying a car.

People tend to pick on this sort of program a lot, saying it misses out stuff, this isn’t right etc etc. without realising it’s an entertainment show that has to cover a few bases. I like seeing people fix stuff up, learning about cars a bit and getting some inspiration along the way to do it myself and I think it does all that very well.

I used to like Fast and Loud but it’s just a soap opera now, just ridiculous.

If you don’t like being held up by some little’uns for a brief moment whilst you wait for a convenient and safe place to pass stay off the family trails and stick to the gnarly red and black ones.

    +100

I don’t like kids. Don’t want any of my own and can’t stand them a lot of the time. But when I see kids enjoying themselves on bikes anywhere is just lifts my spirits so much, they’ve got a lifetime to enjoy riding bikes and their just starting – sweet! I love encouraging them along when I can.

These people who don’t like to be held up – on blue trails? Are you kidding me? Get a life and learn some handling skills so you can go on the red routes, they aren’t hard.

Auto Glym resin polish is the standard, I also like Meguairs NXT for darker cars.

Need to wax or seal it afterwards anyway.

Although it may seem like a faff make the effort to clay bar the paint beforehand, I started doing that this year and it makes a world of difference to the final finish and makes putting polish and wax on so much easier, I reckon it takes half the time to polish and wax if you’ve clayed first. It’s an eye opener as well to how filthy your paint really is!

My sister’s OH was looking at some of the wiring in their newly bought flat when he discovered a partition wall through into a dead space behind their box room which turned it from being a small one bed flat into having two reasonable double rooms. They reckon it adds about 70 grand onto the value. I’m a bit jealous of that one.

    Wow!

It looks like we are moving out on Friday! This would be cause for celebration however we haven’t got another house to move to. Thankfully staying with friends but it’s going to be tough for a while. :-(

I’d wait a little while longer to for 4k until it’s taken up a bit more universally myself. You can get a stunning HD set for £500 which would be great for a few years until 4k has set in and is much cheaper and more accessible.

If you can build a bike you can fix most things on a boiler. I’ve serviced my own for years, I will never do anything on the gas side but plumbing is easy. I’ve changed a pressure switch that was faulty (a few screws and 1 electrical connection), a pressure release valve (couple of locknuts after draining system), the PCB (4 screws and some electrical connections) and I haven’t died. I spoke to a GS engineer and told him what I’d done and he said I’d done a good job. Some boilers are easy to fix and the parts readily available.

As I couldn’t seem to find one I used Rated People to get a gas engineer. Guy came from Barnsley to Hudds for the job and I was so impressed with him I have him a bit extra as I didn’t think he was charging enough money! Serviced 3 gas appliances and did landlord certificate on all 3 for £120. I was well chuffed.

I wouldn’t touch BG with a barge pole, I’d rather be cold!

Just to prove it ain’t about the bike, a lesson to be learnt here….

In his first ever downhill race at Rothbury, riding a bog-standard bike from Halfords, Jason won the novice class, even though still officially a junior, and posted a time that placed him third overall, just behind Pro-Elite riders. He was hooked. He ‘upgraded’ his bike to a Halford’s Carrera and entered as many races as possible, turning in increasingly better performances, culminating in his win at the BOMB MC event – the unofficial british Championship at a course near Scarborough.

    Legend.

I guess I don’t have the same scatter-gun approach to buying that you do Tony

To be fair to Tony he is absolutely massive. And I mean huge. Not only very tall but built like several poo houses all together in one. That must mean he has to try bikes which are outside the normal range of bike fit, and I assume just like the small bikes that my wife rides, sometimes the manufacturers get it right sometimes they don’t, and there’s never a test version in the extreme sizes.

His needs have changed quite a lot too as he had recovered from being ill.

Me and my brother (peterpoddy of this parish) and completely different, he seems to be able to ride and medium sized bike with any bars or saddle and be perfectly comfortable. I really struggle with fit because I have a long body and T-Rex arms and legs. I seem to have a special ass too which is strictly Bel Air (the old ones not the new ones) or Flite Ti (again the original 90’s ones!).

Sometime it’s not knowing whether a bike is good or not too. My first road bike was a Specialized Secteur which I was ok with and I ended up swapping it with one of their cross bikes – mistake as I hated the cross bike and it felt heavy and dull. I changed again to a Kinesis Racelight but to be honest the Secteur felt even better so if I ever got the chance I would sell the Kinesis and get another Secteur. 4 bikes just because I wasn’t aware of how road bikes ride and how a decent one felt.

I deal with case files in my job and I have to collect evidence to potentially prosecute people. The problem when you look from outside is that you don’t see the intricacies of the case which are often so important.
You have to pass 2 tests to take something to court, is it in the public interest to prosecute someone and do you have the evidence to prove a crime has been committed. In this case there is clearly a high public interest so there must be something about the evidence of the combination of evidence and the potential offences that could be prosecuted for. It might be that the legal team went through the available evidence and potential offences and realised that for each potential offence there was a clear argument that the defence could show in court which would have made it impossible to gain a guilty verdict.
I had exactly a similar problem in a case I had, stacks of evidence collected over several weeks but when I sat down with the legal team and went through the whole case bit by bit we saw a clear problem we couldn’t get around. No problem proving it happened but there was a clear defence the offender could bring which would have made the whole thing pointless. So we couldn’t take it further even though the person had clearly been to blame.
Each law that we have has different types of proof that need to be brought to court to prove that someone is guilty of breaking that law. Sometimes it’s pretty simple proof that is needed, sometimes it’s complex.

Even if you don’t get anything much by weighing it all in at least it’ll be recycled into something else, I’d probably drop it all off for free to be honest.

Open Pros are a little narrow for the wider tyres but might work ok. I have got Mavic A319 disc rins on my TDF, with 35mm slicks.

    V brakes in 1994?

The original cantis were Kona ones and were legendarily bad even for cantis. I had HS33’s back in the day but didn’t want to zip tie cables to the newly painted frame. I bought some mega fancy period parallel push brakes (the kind of things that Shimano copied and made brilliant) but they didn’t work very well so just put some modern V’s on, work well!!

My gorgeous 94 Kilauea, recently had a full nut and bolt restoration, bought new in 1994 by me. Probably the only possession I have which I will never ever sell and that I would be genuinely upset if it was stolen.

Oh and it rides like a dream too. :-)

I refuse to use “free” services as I used to manage a music shop and saw the sales of CD’s suffer when you started to be able to copy them (yes it was that long ago and I can remmeber when CD burners were £150++!) – I like the artists to get at least some money!

Doesn’t sound like bomberman is a “nasty little shit” (or whatever he was called on the previous page) at all. He got shit service and reacted to it after a couple of weeks of being bullshitted.

Well this quote from the email he got sounds like it wasn’t a one off reply:

Your tracking number was 36639123571, but after your repeated rudeness and insults we have proceeded to stop your delivery.

    Definition of nasty in English:
    adjective (nastier, nastiest)
    1Very bad or unpleasant:
2Behaving in an unpleasant or spiteful way:

I’m sure he didn’t mean to start this thread to open those old wounds of yours , perhaps therapy would help.. time to let that stuff go now. X.

Never used to bother me to be honest, I always felt sad for them that they had to resort to being nasty.

    you would be angry too.

It is really worth being “angry” at? Really? Annoyed, yes, but you can get your money back easily enough. I’ve had similar problems before with other retailers but stay polite but firm and you’ll have no problems. I would almost understand someone swearing face to face as it’s in the heat of the moment but typing it in an email to a shop is bizarre.

    robdob

That seems a bit of an odd thing to say Robdob.. (was the name calling supposed to be ironic??)

Call it as I see it! ;-)

Reasonable retailers wouldn’t have got any nasty swear words form big bomber

Beleive me, you do. Every day I used to have to deal with people who would scream and shout, swear at you and issue verbal threats to harm and kill you over the tiniest of issues. I worked in a shop which was known for great service and we prided ourselves on it. I would bend over backwards to help customers and sort thing out when things went wrong over and above what we needed to do.

    3 examples….

    – threatened with being attacked when I finished work over 50p change (they were wrong but we gave them 50p anyway before the threat was given
    – threatened with violence over a sofa order which we had quoted a delivery time for and it was still within that time and we offered a full refund – ended up calling police to remove from premises.
    – screamed and shouted at by a bloke who said he was a “lawyer” and would sue us for his time for a faulty mower he had to bring back – turned out it had run out of petrol.

It seems that no matter how nice and helpful you can be there are still some people who have anger management and respect problems and treat shop workers like scum.

What was the poor service? There are hundreds of retrobikers had great service from him, including me several times. He has also done stickers for a company I help promote, great service all the time. I’ve probably spent at least £1500 on stuff from him over the last 2 years.

I’m not rubbishing your opinion, things do go wrong sometimes, but it’d be nice to know the problem you had. I know it isn’t his main business so things sometimes can be held up (had a 2 week delay once as he was on holiday!) but the speed and quality of his stuff is always excellent with me.

There really are some idiotic low-lifes on here during the daytime aren’t there? Isn’t there an episode of Pointless you could be watching?

I’m trying to give you a heads up about a company who are blatantly lying about having shipped my item and had hold of my £60 for the last 2 weeks.

Any threads like this are just troll-bait to you morons.

And we’ve had a heads up that you’re a nasty little know-it-all who we’d rather not deal with ever again. So we have gained a useful insight from your information, even if it’s not as you intended, so thanks!
