“Not much help but just had the boiler serviced and given a full clean bill of health, as expected, ready for the buyers of my place. They are first time buyers and stretching themselves so want to make sure the boiler is all working and stays under warranty as it is due around now.”

Exactly what I did, got all the gas appliances checked and serviced. Just because other people leave things in a state doesn’t mean I should do the same – even if in my next house I may get dealt a rough deal!

I’m going to budget for a new boiler for my next house no matter what.

My overtime hours have gone in but the daily payments in ICD just won’t work, my TL authorises them but they are rejected overnight.

Pig face – looks like I won’t get paid my standby payments now, no one appears to be able to sort it out. :-(

Which is in turn a result of bad management, which is in turn a result of people thinking they know more about IT than they do…

I find this – I don’t think in some cases its managers thinking they know a lot about IT, it’s not knowing what the users of the IT actually do with the IT they have and what they need/want to do – the people at the sharp end don’t ever get asked….. :-(

Pigface – I’ve recorded 14 hours on my timesheets so far under the “inputting time recording” code – yes I’ve done 2 full days on it so far…..

I had to bite my tongue speaking to SSCL today……

    Don’t think I’ll be getting my standby/overtime payments this month… :-(

    Flat bars FTW! :-)

The problem you have is that a “touring bike/frame” is never going to be as good as your current road bike for a “day/quick blast out steed”. It’s a compromise, anything in between will be.

My Tour de Fer is slow compared to my Kinesis road bike (which can take a rack and guards but it’s a bit sketchy when anything like a decent load is put on) but it doesn’t matter because it’s not about speed, it’s about all day comfort and stability with a load. Don’t get me wrong it handles brilliantly but I ain’t going to be getting any KOM’s with it.

Definitely go for flat bars if you want, most people who actually do touring use flat bars.

I used to think going to the same place for hols would be boring but we found a cottage in Wales which was a good price, had a bike store and was perfectly central to all the places we liked to go, we’ve been a few times now and I love it!

I got latex tubes, ditched them as the constant re-inflation required drove me to distraction!

I don’t know why everyone is complaining, the new bike looks great and they’ve obviously put a LOT of thought into how they have designed and specced.

Love how people are complaining about the alloy fork without riding it. If they had made a steel fork it would have been very heavy (read the reason why on their site) and you’d be complaining about that anyway.

Where I am going to be riding is probably going to be very rocky and dark (under trees) so does that affect things?

“Incorrect. It was designed like that to shorten the back end. Raising the stays removes metal from between the rings and tyre to enable that. Shortening the back end was touted as a way of making a bike climb better.
    It also improves mud room”

Too true – I rode an Alpinestars BITD and recently too, and also owned recently a Rocky Mountain Experience which had a similar design and they were the best climbing bikes I ever rode. Still kicking myself for selling the Rocky.

“I regularly see bikes filtering between 2 lanes of motorway traffic”

Happens all the time on the M62 on my way to work when cars are doing 50-60mph. Scares the crap out of me as I don’t want to hit one of them but their speed differential to the cars must be 10-20mph and even if you check your mirrors carefully they dart in and out so fast they’d be under your wheels in a microsecond.

My uncle in Maine specialises in putting V8 Mustnag engines into Volvo station wagons – he built a Volvo 740 for Paul Newman that could do 0-60 in 4 seconds

Yup seen it! I think it was actually a 960….??

The fast Audi’s nowadays are extremely capable, but actually becuase of that they are a bit boring. Not my experience, but from a couple of people I know who have owned them! (RS6 Avant, RS4 etc).
A bloke I know who used to work for a Ferrari race team and went on to do stuff with Lamborghini, then ran his own garage selling performance cars says one of the best cars he has driven was a Fiat 500 Abarth Essess (sp?) – go figure!

Small, light, powerful is the way to go.

Dream car for me, I always wanted a Diablo in purple. With a white interior, thanks very much. Love Lambo’s but don’t like the newer ones, not mental enough…. Would have to have an Akropovic exhaust system on it too, loud as possible please.

In more attainable cars, I am hopefully buying a dream car for me soon. A friend of mine’s dad back in school had a Volvo 740 turbo and I got a ride in it. Always wanted one, have waited 25 years but maybe soon!!

    Adverts were brilliant!

And they can be made to look pretty badass too….

HoratioHufnagel – I’ve seen that idea before, thanks for reminding me!

i like the look – it would go well with my bike….im just not sure its all that useful for 50 quid.

i liked the old kona one that mounted to the front axle and the crown with the wooden base – but alas its a nigh on imposibility to get here and the minourna version is big enough i could bring my car to work on it.

I just like the look of it, don’t really if other stuff is more useful. I reckon a luggage net over the top would be a good idea if you don’t want to use the bag.

FWIW I have a front rack and dedicated mounts, but I don’t use it and this looks less “toury” to me.

    Arrived today…..

Nicely made, the bag is good too. Only paid £48 in the end, place I got it from has loads of PDW stuff on sale so I bought an Alexander Graham Bell, some leather grips and some Speed Metal grips all for the same price that Amazon were selling the basket alone for (ish ;) )

Just sold my house in Huddersfield – I used Ramsdens and they were excellent, couldn’t fault then.

    £510 all in for freehold

I sold ours via House Network too who were amazing but their conveyancing quote was £1000. Prefer to go with a local company anyway as it was really handy to pop in with documents rather than post them.

Corbyn looks like he might be one of those old school cyclists who at first glance you wouldn’t think is fast due to the clothes and crazy bike. Then you go for a ride with them and they smoke you on every up and down no matter what you do, all while wearing corduroy and slightly shabby beards. Gits!

Not much help but why would you lend your bike to someone who you don’t even know well enough to have his phone number?

    This x10000!!!!

    robdob

New frame, new STI’s, new pedals. That’s what I’d be asking for.

If I’d borrowed the bike I would have already ordered the replacements before handing the bike back, I would then rebuild it for them even better than before to say sorry.

Anyone thinks anything less is acceptable has waaaay too much money and by the way, you’re not borrowing anything of mine!

I am amazed anyone orders any Duff products, it clearly is a business where he takes your money and supplies goods when he can be bothered (if at all). I have no idea why he is defended by people on here when there are clearly huge problems with the business plan he has and the quantity of issues people have had far outweighs any other “problem” supplier that is quite rightly pilloried.

The basic bits of installing a kitchen are easy as its flat pack furniture basically. The skill involved is making sure the little bits look good. Work tops properly mitred and jointed, architrave neat and gap free, filler panels well cut and flush. Those are the sorts of jobs which need special tools or ways of working or fixings which are quite specialist sometimes or from a skill leant over time.
It’s easy to make a cheapest kitchen look ace if fitted professionallly, but also easy to make an expensive kitchen look crap if fitted badly.
But if you plan to do this more than once this might be the time to start learning and buying the tools you need!

I would definitely not recommend their solicitors/conveyancers though, they farm it out to crappy uk wide companies and you have no choice over who you get.

That was the only negative I heard about too BUT they were honest with me and said they have had problems with the and are starting now with a new company for conveyancing so they obviously respond to feedback.

I went with a local solicitor anyway which was much cheaper than the quote I got from the new company they have started using.

The ones I have dealt with have literally shown people the house, and not tried to sell it.

That’s my experience as well after seeing 20+ houses in our area with a variety of agents.
