TBH the videos can make that jump look a bit naff, but it seems massive in real life.

PP – at least I didn’t bail on one jump and end up running down the hill. Rad dude!! 😉

    Great day. 😀

against the financial institutions concerned that are taken directly for the salaries of those working within or proven responsible for said needs. To be deducted on and at a means tested (+20k) rate?

Yeah I’m sure the assistants working in banks helping people with their bank cards and giving advice on life insurance will love having their wages cut. Not as simple as you think.

I think most people would agree that Hope Xc hubs are probably the most reliable hubs, it’s such a shame they don’t make them any more. Wish I hadn’t sold mine. 🙁

I think that there is no way, if Lance was cheating, that he would have been able to evade detection. The staggering amount of tests and scrutiny has never found any concrete evidence. The only titbits of info have come from sources who have always had a vendetta against him or other “caught” riders trying to show up other people.
I’d hate to be in a court with some of the people, including some on here who really don’t have even a fraction of the facts, who “know” he cheated – I doubt I’d get a fair trial.
I personally don’t know if he cheated or not, maybe only Lance knows 100%, but the weight of evidence surely points to him being an honest rider. For every tiny accusation based on hearsay there are hundreds of negative tests.
I’d like to think that the process of going through cancer has shown him what real pain and suffering really is, and he has been able to develop himself far beyond what most people could do as he knows the ultimate limits he has been to. Coupled with the fact that he was a very good rider before the illness and the natural body advantages he was born with make me think, yeah, someone could achieve why he did in an honest way.

The annoying thing about flats though is gotta wear shin pads always, too.

No you don’t! If I’m going to practise some technical stuff I might wear some but not normally.

I can’t remember my feet ever bouncing off my flat pedals, seems like you are doing it very wrong to make that happen. I do remember riding clipless in the Peaks and several times wanting to throw my bike off the nearest cliff at every flat rocky section – you can’t just do a quick dab to keep you moving, nightmare starting off and fiddling with clipping in as there’s never any time etc.
Love clipless for road bike and used to use them but after 5 years on BMX I think I’ll never touch clipless again for offroad.
Anyway, bunnyhops look lame with SPD’s!!

Sambob – did it take 7hrs? It felt like about 7 weeks to me but I never realised it took that long in real time. Was that the one I was on?

Great pic Elf, he was no chuffin’ Gandhi in that film!!!

I can’t understand why the OP didn’t just ignore him – why act like an imbecile, was it really worth it? I just smile and wave , smile and wave. 🙂

Thought it might be helpful if I posted a picture of Pook so anybody meeting up with the group first time will recognise him:

I’d been there about an hour before you said hello and was thinking about going home as I felt cack. Another run at the descent line was fun and made it all wirthwhile.
It’s going to be my main aim to jump off the big rock by the time summer comes.

Slight threa hijack – big thanks to Pook, Podge et al – met them all at Stainburn yesterday and cheered me up loads. Struggling to enjoy riding my bike at the moment due to being ill for 2 months and putting all the weight I had lost back on in a flash. I had to ride on my own yesterday which was depressing and meeting them was fantastic. Only rode for 1.5hrs but was shattered afterwards.
If anyone is thinking of coming on a ride with this lot just go for it. You’ll be made welcome and encouraged along if you struggling. There are a few bailout options on this ride you can take if the Dark Peak grinds you down too much but stick with it and youll have a blast.

I used to work at Homebase and have to admit the toolbox selection was poor, but they do take up a lot of space and customers always break the cheap ones. The more expensive Stanley ones are good though.
I think my longest serving toolbox is a Curver one (yes the bin folk) and it’s been brilliant. I’ve seen lots of workmen with them and I can’t ever see me breaking it despite it being plastic. I just wish it was bigger. Not sure if they still make them now.

Not been very nice here at all in Hudds. Tends to be a bit colder at stainburn, wind maybe not an issue for boulder trail but DH track is out in the open and could be a bit breezy!!
What time you going? I might pop over too – been before?

EDIT- Met office says winds 15mph but lessening as day progresses. Showers and overcast all day. So it might be ok and you’re only 5mins walk to the car even at the furthest point anyway. 😀

I use the whole (11-28 8speed) cassette in the 36 but only 1-3 in the granny (22) so only ever use it for steep/long/loose climbs.
    22-18/19 pretty much = 36-28
I hate chainslap and find it far noticably worse even with a 30T largest sprocket (and chain as short as poss.)

    +1

I have 22/32 and 11-32 on my Pitch. I got rid of the 42 as I was always smacking it into rocks (peaks rocky riding and a low BB) but I’ve found I keep dropping the chain over rough stuff as there’s not enough tension. So I’ve just fitted a Blackspire Stinger to stop that. Can’t shorter chain any further – tested it at full compression and I daren’t go any shorter.
TJ – round here that gear you have in your pic would be so annoying – it’d be slapping around all over the show!!
Personally if I get a bike with a higher BB I’ll go back to triple with maybe a big bashguard over the 42t ring.
Overall I’m reasonably happy but I’d love to have a couple of higher gears back for the fast downhills.

It very funny to be accused of a lackl of sense of humour by those who have missed a joke – that was clearly there if you wnated to see it – as shown when I accepted the MillieTant picture as me.

Please TJ, for your own sake stop it. Everyones seen past it, the excuse isn’t working. You are embarrassing yourself now.

I would also submit (with as much proof as TJ has that womem are put off the forum by the A&A threads) that he is more guilty than anyone of putting people off the the forum, both male and female, by his constant bullying, belittling, patronising and self-righteous attitude when it comes to anyone who dares disagree with his opinion.

I very rarely read a thread past the point TJ joins in, can’t stand his posts. I really hope he is different in real life (like hora and Elfin are – great guys) because he makes me depressed.

Is it a height thing? I’m unusually tall for a girl and have no problem cutting bread (well, no-one complains) and I think it might be that I’m far enough above the worktop + cutting board to be able to control the knife.
    Maybe??
Got any short guys on here – can they cut bread?

My wife is a perfect slicer and is 4’11”. That disproved your theory as it is a big enough dataset for a web forum. Ha!

I never knew how she managed to spread butter on slices so thin without ripping the bread apart until I caght her at it one day spreading the butter on the end of the loaf, THEN slicing.

That is amazing. That’s the sort of skill and inventiveness you just can’t teach.

    HAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!
So says the man that was worried about the wifely reaction to the bike parts he bought the other day!

That was only because I wasn’t able to tell her before I bought them. I was quietly surprised when she saw the workstand I bought an said “that’s quite impressive – you deserve one anyway”. Sweet!

Anyway, still doesn’t alter the fact my wife is an ace bread cutter an yours isn’t. 😉

Maybe it’s because she’s a Yorkshire woman and not cutting it straight would mean valuable bread would be wasted.

I recently bought a slice yourself loaf. I was worried my wife might cut it cack handed but she did some toast and the loaf was sliced PERFECTLY. it was a large crusty loaf with a very soft centre so not a loaf a novice would do well on. It was amazing – I’m not sure I could have done it that well. It was as thin as a medium sliced pre cut load, simply superb. I knew then (and it wasn’t the first time I had thought this) I had married the perfect woman. 😀

You wouldn’t have to make £200 more, maybe only £50-100 to cover the difference between doing all those things yourself and letting Orange do it. If you had to rely on shops doing all the work there might be less of a difference.
There’s a good place in Bingley which is supposed to do top notch powdercoating, I think its £50, let’s assume that includes a lacquer coat. Say the decals cost £15 to print as per the originals and the paintshop charges £5 to put them on before the lacquer. That’s £70 so far. Bearing replacements done at a shop – never had it done myself but would £40 Inc labour be about right? £110. Maybe you could take the frame to Orange to inspect it for damage and they charged you £20 to do a full check. That’s £130 in total, but you don’t get the assurance that the guarantee is still valid and theres a lot of ferrying round to do, maybe £15 in petrol (I live near the Orange factory so that’s reasonable).
I know those prices aren’t going to be accurate but I’ve already spent £150+ and had the added hassle of picking the frame up and taking it to 3 places to get the job done. Many more opportunities for problems.
I reckon I could get the £50 back on resale and I reckon getting the whole job done in one go with the added warranty continuation is well worth the extra even if I don’t sell it.
I will probably never own an orange frame and I do agree they are very expensive for what they are and that would put me off buying one but I reckon that’s a good service.

There was a time when the Kenda BG and Nev were the tyre to have in W Yorks so I bought some and they were TERRIBLE for me. I have Spesh Eskar on my bike and I love them. Haven’t ever been in a situation where Ive had any unwanted grip surprises, barely get any punctures (one or two) and a decent volume for the rocky tracks of the Peaks. I’ll be buying the same tyres when they wear out, which won’t be far off.

The resale value won’t change – anybody who’s powder coated their Orange frame recently could claim Orange did it themselves…

Of course it will. If you have a receipt for the work done from Orange it’ll attract way more bids on eBay and gives a potential buyer peace of mind their expensive purchase hasn’t been baked to cracking point by some back street sprayer. After some reports on here I wouldnt touch with a bargepole any expensive alloy frame which had been powdercoated by anyone other than the original manufacturer.
But if you lie that it was done by Orange and you find someone gullible enough to believe you without proof then I suppose you’re right.
At least we’ve learnt not to buy stuff off you now.

I am always one to try and get a job done the cheapest but I don’t think that’s too bad really. You’re getting it painted by the people who did it in the first place, a peace of mind check of the frame, new bearings, all the paintwork done as the factory original finish and new bearings etc. Yes it’s more money than you could get those things done separately but it’s all in one go and sorted properly with no hassle.

I’ve just had a thought – if you used this service then the resale value of the frame will surely be higher – this would probably make up that extra cost and maybe make it easier to sell anyway.

If specialized did this sort of service I’d definatley use it for my pitch if a few years down the line it needed it.

I don’t understand, you say you haven’t been to this doctors yet (if you haven’t had an appointment yet as your registration isn’t complete so you can’t have) but you say all they do is hand out pills like sweets. Err how do you know this if you haven’t been? If it was an emergency that didn’t need casualty they would see you asap like if you were On holiday – so it can’t be that bad. But you are annoyed because you can’t get a standard non urgent appointment at a doctors where you aren’t registered immediately?
Every doctors must have a split between book in advance appointments and on the day appointments. If you can’t be bothered to ring up on the day you want to go at near the time the surgery opens (too exciting????) then you’ll just have to wait.
    Q. Has your “underlying problem” been diagnosed yet?
