    Original front mech, works fine.
Any 4 bolt front ring should fit.

That’s really nice. Does it use deep drop brakes?

My Kilauea rides soooooo nicely – I did a ride in the Surrey hills in the summer and couldn’t think of a better bike I’ve ever ridden for the trails I did. The only problem was the guys on the modern bikes holding me up….. 😉

    It’s worth it!

If I get one day, just one day, a year where I’m outside in the countryside with warm sunshine, blue skies, twittering skylarks overhead, and that rich, warm scent drifting on the breeze then it keeps me going for a year. I’d wouldn’t trade that one day for a million days elsewhere.

Well said. It is amazing how that one day can keep you going for all year!

Mine uses the ISCG “old” mounts. Not sure if they changed it for later years.

This is my Pitch with 2×9

I have a Hope 36t lightweight bashing and a 36t Shimano ring, bit more than the 32t to make up for losing the 42t, and a Blackspire Stinger – works very well and bolts straight onto the ISCG mounts. Keeps the drivetrain a lot quieter.

So basically your situation is that your wife looks after her diet so she can look as smoking hot as possible and the only result is that you have to sit round the house in your y-fronts? I can’t see a negative here to be honest. 😉

gti – have you tried winding the lockshields in a bit and taking the knob off?

If you leave the knob off she’ll notice. Better to turn them down then drill out the lockshield cap so it spins uselessly if you try to adjust it.

However this may mean she heads off into the garage to get a spanner, where your secret stash of new bike bits are found……….. you gotta think of everything!!

Thanks all, I think I’m sorted.

I am also now glad that my wife also wants to save money on heating bills! Seriously – globalti – does she have some sort of medical problem or taking some prescription that makes her cold? Sounds a bit excessive!

I would just turn the boiler temperature down for the central heating circuit…….

I bet you could take the TRV top off and alter it so it looks like its on max temp but is actually 50-70%. Trick is to not turn it down too much so it’s obvious…..I’m thinking you might make use of those mega thin Hope brake caliper washers?

Rose and Crown, Slaithwaite (good location if you are coming from Manchester way Hora). Bit tricky to find and you have to drive up one the steepest hills in the Holme Valley to get to it from Manchester Road but well worth it.

Looks like a normal pub but the food, which is mainyl traditional British stuff, is first class. Puddings are very nice and all seem homemade. very good service too.

I don’t drink much so can’t comment on the beer but its a proper locals pub too with what looks like a good selection of decent stuff.

I can’t wait to go back again, my first choice in Huddersfield for proper food.

I wouldn’t put £1.50 bearings on my bike. Proper SKF ones on my bike, thanks. It’s a hassle replacing them so why buy cheaper ones which you’ll have to replace sooner?

Even better, pack them with grease before you fit them…. 😀

Worth mentioning as always, thanks PP.

After 12 years in retail management I think I’ve seen every single scam going, the main thing is to stick by the rules of the CC companies/clearing houses.

I used to work in a big DIY store and we followed every rule to the letter but people are very inventive and new scams start all the time.

One big one is to always make sure you keep your pre-printed till rolls under lock and key, giving them out only when a cashier shows they need a new one. Have a guess why! (pretty simple to work out…)

To be fair to them there probably wasn’t. 😀

My brother in law designs production lines at his company and often has to construct new ones with minimal downtime – eg needs doing in an 8hr work shift. So it’s important that the contractors they take on arrive in plenty of time and are ready to go the second the previous shift finishes.
He is down in Somerset and said he tried various companies in the region but they all let him down, arriving an hour or two late which meant the job had to be cancelled at the last minute. Eventually he tried a company from Newcastle – a huge distance to go for a contract for most people. That team drove from Newcastle, were on time, finished the job ahead of schedule and with the best quality of work.
From then on he’s used Northern companies and had much better results. They weren’t cheaper as they had some distance to travel but he could rely on them to do a great job.

It always strikes me as odd how people spend thousands on bikes then take the mick with people spending pocket money on something “you can make yourself”. Personally I like a nice chainstay protector and the one posted up there looks a bit different and well made. Nice one!

I am the sort of rider who should really be trying tubeless – I run my tyres low around 30psi, live in an area where pinch flats should be a common occurrence (but don’t get many thorns). But every time I talk to someone and ask them to pursuade me to try it they tend to give me more negatives than positives. So many rides where a tubeless rider has had problems.

It’s West Yorkshire you need to come to mate, 20% round here is average. 🙁

Shibden Wall to start you on, then head off down to Keighley then the Calder valley to finish you off.

I drive down a lot of out of the way roads round these parts for my job and I went down a road which was cobbled but at the bottom was so steep I had to have 3 goes getting round it as I thought I was going to ground the car.

I found an old Skool pair of ray bans in garage circa 94 bought in Florida
    Any use?

Probably not, its that particular frame shape I’m wanting. Thanks anyway!

Make sure you get a big sign to hang round your neck saying These Raybans are real so no-one thinks they’re fake!!

    😀
I won’t buy copies of anything. Not because I’m a snob, I just don’t like supporting people ripping other people’s designs off. Got some birthday money so I want a treat!

Thanks all for the help so far.

I was in another branch on aforementioned closing down model shop. I got told in no uncertain terms that if I bought one of those I would not have been having any more children.
    Bargain for £100 though.

So you wouldn’t have to have any more annoying expensive children AND you get a sweet RC car?

That sounds like deal of the century!

I love the fact you can buy mega expensive bikes like this, and why shouldn’t people who can afford them be able to get them from a shop which clearly has made an effort to display them nicely?
You forget that there is a lot of people who earn a lot of money and like to spend it. Nowt wrong with that and catering to that market is obviously something worth doing.
I’m glad there are people who can afford these bikes, same as the expensive cars. They’ve done well and they want a nice bike, fair play to them. I couldn’t care less if they were faster or slower than me (probably faster!).

You’ve also got to remember that cycling isn’t really an expensive sport when you compare it against some other ones like motocross or skiing (do that regularly and it’s the trips abroad that make it expensive) or even motorsports such as rallying. So dropping £5k on a bike isn’t really as big a deal for some people as it may be for me. I know amateur musicians with £10k+ of bass guitars/saxophones/drums (that’s just 3 I know) so it’s not unusual to spend such an amount.

    seems very complicated.
    Honestly, it really isn’t.
You exchange some cash, take your credit card, and go on holiday.
You are no brokering a large currency deal, you are going on holiday.
    Chill out, relax, enjoy yourself.

I meant that the reasons why the rate fluctuate seem to be complex. Probably why people can’t predict it easily!

There’s always places to go/services to use where cards can’t be used. Credit card I have has no foreign use fee so I’ll use that whenever I can.

Pity it’s not $2 to £1 any more!

I thought that if it changes a LOT then it might be worth waiting/acting quickly. Probably wont make much of a difference as I’m not getting huge amounts (£500 maybe, credit cards used mainly).

As part of the trip I will be going to Moab BTW. Slickrock Trail here I come!

The RNLI are one of the many things that make me proud to be British. Absolutely legendary and I always make sure I don’t put change in the collection boxes, but banknotes.

I love going to the stations and seeing the absolutely immaculate boats and houses they live in, absolute best of standards at every one.

I don’t understand why people are so against triples. I wouldn’t have a compact myself. This is my Racelight with an Ultegra triple:

You still have the nice high gears for blatting along the flats and downhills – I do use the 53/11 combo most rides! – the middle at 39t is “just right” for the hills and the 30t inner great to get up those mega steep W Yorks hills when you are tired or you meet Shibden Wall :YOWSERS: or when loaded up and bit and bimbling along.

You need to make sure all the lacquer is off first – I used paint stripper to remove it on a frame I had.

Rather than spend hours polishing I just used a Scotchbrite pad after that to give it a satin brushed finish, only took a few minutes. Polishing is nice but if there isn’t lacquer any more its harder to keep it looking good later on.
