At the end of the day the old saying that it’s only worth what someone will pay for. Biggest problem with a lot of framesets is that if they need a respray and it’s requires a real quality job you need to find a buyer that’s willing to take that potentially big extra cost on as well as the purchase price.

That Kilauae Kilauea is just lovely!

    Fixed that for you…… 😉

It’s the one bike I will never sell, unless I’m destitute. It rides so nicely it’s just not believable. Did a ride in the Surrey hills and it thrashed the singletrack – only problem was the modern bikes were holding me up.

DMR did sort me out with them in the end, I think they said I got the last mk1 set. So I did a very high res scan of them and sent the scans to GilM at the Bike Shed who does repro decals so he can do them for anyone else who needs them.

It rides very very well, brilliant in the air but front end is very harsh, no give at all with the Haro Wing bars and those straight forks. A slightly different set up would improve things.

    New bike

Old bikes. But just as good.

    1991 Dave Lloyd Beez Kneez
    Fillet brazed 653.

    1994 Kona Kilauea
I bought this exact bike in 94. 20 years old next year and still amazing to ride.

    1992 GT Tequesta
    My first MTB.

Bought as NOS Frameset, 1991 Haro Extreme.
31.8 bars and stem 22 years ago. 😀
They are NOS Haro Wing Bar and Stem, as was specced from new.

And this one being restored. One of the first 100 DMR Trailstars, to see if they could sell an all round jump and play and XC bike in the UK in 1997. I think they proved they could!
Blooming labour of love this, you try finding a NOS DMR saddle and decals! Needed dropouts re-manufacturing, loads of work before paint.
Bead blasted 98 Bombers, hand mirror polished.

    9sp 11-32 and 22/36

I suppose I don’t use the bottom gears loads so could go to 24/36. Problem for me is that with 1×10 which I have considered I can get a low enough gear maybe with 30/36 or similar but a 30 or 32 front with 11 on the back just isn’t high enough. I moved to a 22/36 as 22/32 was too low and would seriously consider having a 24/38 or something if it was doable.

I tend to get nosebleeds quite often (no underlying problems or drugs) and when they happen in the shower (maybe when I’ve rubbed my nose too hard) it looks like a scene out of Psycho, blood everywhere.
The main problem is that it’s quite impossible to stop the blood flowing in the shower, and you can’t get out with blood dripping everywhere and covered in soap. So I have spent AGES in the shower sometimes when this happens!

Only solution I found was to reach for the toilet roll and grab a load and stuff it up my nose!

Wow. Just wow. I was wondering whether to do it in 2 or 3 days on my own and staying in a B and B. It seems that your lad has raised the bar – if I don’t do it in 2 I should be ashamed!

Specialized Enduro lock on grips – they do a lovely chunky version which is great quality and not expensive. Currently ordering some from my LBS just to have some spare, I love them.

Quite heavy jump bike, actually quite good.
The one you have appears to have a standard BMX BB shell. You can get converters from DMR to put a normal BB in but most people will use BMX BB and 3 piece cranks.
If the Mazzer forks look weird they may be the Shiver versions? Upside down forks them, and quite good. They were made in single and double crown versions.

A friend of mine sold their house and managed to get another friend of theirs to put them up for a short time until they got the new house. They said while the temp accomodation wasn’t ideal it made the whole selling and buying thing a lot easier and made them more attractive as buyers too. Renting a place short term would have the same effect.
There is another advantage when you buy the new place in that you can overlap your rental after you have the keys for the new place. 2 or 3 weeks overlap means you can look at the empty house and get it decorated/changed to your choice while its empty. Trying to do it when you’ve moved in is a lot harder. Another friend of mine did this and made a top job of sanding all their wooden floors, varnishing and cleaning up before they moved in. Would have been an utter nightmare once they were in to do that.

Hmm depends very much on the condition of the frameset and also the usability of the kit on it, plus how original it is. Factory fresh with original kit might be £160-£180 if you could find a buyer who wanted that particular model.
Rough frame needing paint with knackered and worn kit? £40-50.

I never understand why fantasy is lumped in with SF. Could not be more different.

I collect mid century short story SF books, some I have read just blow my mind.

It’s be funny to ask Dave Hinde racing team if they ever get team kit when they ask for it, or does the boss say “sorry just sold the last one” etc. 🙂

The OP has already tried blinds with little success.

I’ve just been to stay with friends in Las Vegas and everyone tints their windows there. It gets so hot the air con doesn’t work if it isn’t helped with the tinting!

If you get a credit card which doesn’t charge for use abroad it’s cheaper than exchanging cash.
I’ve just been to Vegas recently and you’ll struggle to find places where you can’t use a card!

I don’t know how they get away with charging so much money for a bike with such horrific parts on. Saddle/grips/shifter/pedals – you can find better on a £100 BSO.

Second the rubber strips – I left a couple of inches out when I fitted mine a while back, just being lazy, and it whistled like crazy until I sorted it out.

Aw – where are you based? On Retrobike there is some good recommendations for powder coaters but it depends where you are.

Mine was powder coated, metallic silver (tiny sparkly bits!), frame fork and 2 stems for £40. But some powder coaters are rubbish.

Some satellite channels have horrific compressed pictures. ITV4 is one I can think of straight away. Test on BBC first as that’s often the best quality channel.

As an avid retrobiker BUT someone who loves good brakes I went back to Maguras on my older canti stud only bikes. Quite a few guys on Retrobike use them, either a good condition old set or some newer ones. I have some 2011 ones are they are easier to set up than the old ones as the evolution mount is less fiddly than the original L-shape post idea.

Once they are set up they are a genuine fit and forget purchase. Clip in new pads every so often is all you have to do.

Power wise, they are equal to discs in the dry and I reckon close in the wet too. With small blocks and a lot of power they tend to cut through water and mud straight to the rim.

I have some pretty nice brand new XT V’s but they aren’t a patch on the Maguras.

There is a reason a 20 year old set in good condition, ready to use, costs £60-70+ – they are brilliant!

The quote for the cage appears to be like the one on this page for Hampshire council:

Our quote is for vertical hanging bikes as we have very limited space

The cage for the bikes looks very impressive, made from Fortex358 prison fencing!!
Another quote says “palisades fencing” which I can’t get any info of what it looks like, but doesn’t sound as good to me.

The quote includes the security bars as seen in the pics, presumably to have something to lock your bike to.

Tried them about 20 years ago and they were rubbish on a trail bike. Quite tempted to give them a go again on the XC race bike though, probably be better without the front mech too.

Back then there wasn’t trail bikes. Just bikes!

Wysiwyg – I did already say I tried every trick printed on the Internet – including those!

Anyway, popped in today on the off-chance, they squeezed me in to see someone (it was busy so wasn’t expecting it). 5 mins later had a new phone.

I’m no apple disciple but that’s the sort of service that’ll keep me buying Apple products. Only have the phone at the moment though, rest of their kit is too many ££££’s!

I eventually got the phone to the “connect to itunes” screen but it won’t restore, tried every hint and tip I could find online but still getting a 4005 or 4013 error saying it can’t recover the phone.

I got some off eBay when I was looking for some green grips, got some identical to ODI with black grips and ano green ends for £5 delivered. Wasn’t expecting (or needed) high quality but they are the same as ODI, so well chuffed. They were new with no packaging but receipted etc.

I’ve tried EVERYTHING, don’t worry! Every bit of advice on the internet I followed last night…….

Not expecting a new phone, no. I worked in retail for 12 years so I know how to be a good customer but I wondered if an Apple shop was any different..

John Craven may well have been offered one to wear. It would have been up to him or the BBC as to whether he wore one or not.
Normally I would assume that if anyone is working for the EA then they would be required to use (and may be provided with) the same level of PPE as the EA use and expected to follow their recommendations and instructions for its use. In this case the BBC would not be doing this so they would follow their own H&S guidelines/rules.

I work for the EA and the rule is that a life jacket is worn whenever you are working on or around water. The (very nice) ones we are supplied with are designed to keep you upright if you are knocked out while in the water.
In reality everyone wears them in such situations as we all recognise how important they could be. You are held responsible for using your PPE when you think it is necessary – when you are working IN water it’s always worn. However If I am walking next to a tiny stream just checking it out I might not wear my life jacket as I can justify it’s not necessary, which would be fine.

In a TV interview all EA PPE is normally worn anyway I’ve noticed. It’s probably done to show good water safety practices. To be honest if the interviewed person does that sort of job all the time it’ll be put on automatically every morning they are in the field. You barely know you’re wearing them anyway, they are really nicely fitted and comfortable.

It depends. You are better off shorterning your chain a bit, that’ll help.

You don’t need to have a chain device, I didn’t ever lose my chain but I hate drivetrain noise, especially rear mech/chain clanging around. It’s quite rocky in West Yorks where I am so adding the chain device made things a lot quieter.

It’s a pretty cheap add-on, but not essential if you ride a lot of smoother trails. But if that’s all you do you probably don’t need a Pitch! 😉
