    I’m glad I’m not the only one….

I had this and I think legally (or maybe professionally??) they have to see the animal every 6 months. Our cat had the same medication for years and we had to take it in every 6 months.
Yes it’s an extra cost but it was covered by insurance anyway.

    They all do it.

All of them. Every single one.

It’s known in the trade as Price Establishment and we used to put stuff up for sale with daft prices and never sell any, then lower the price after a certain period.

It is perfectly legal, just working round the trading standards rules.

Problem is that less and less people are falling for it as everyone ends up selling the stuff for the same prices and they all have 50% off offers. So it doesn’t work as well as it used to.

I don’t work for a council but I work with them sometimes.

Ask for lots of FOI requests.

Keep complaining, don’t ever give up. Keep telling other people about it who can make a difference. Speak to the local MP who will cause them no end of hassle if enough people contact them.

The day after the head of the NHS says we need £8billion extra (IIRC) over the next few years this demand for a quarter of that before the end of the year comes in.

I don’t reallt have much of an opinion about Europe most of the time, there are decent arguments on both sides.

However this takes the biscuit – I would tell them to get lost. What are they going to do if we don’t pay anyway? They probably can’t afford to have us leave so this seems crazy.

If anyone has a Bel-Air which is ok apart from the cover wearing through (so rails and foam and plastic bits ok) please let me have it! I am trying to find another one to re-cover in real leather. I could pay postage etc.
I’ve done one but it wasn’t perfect so I’d like to keep trying!

I think you did the right thing by going out to work. It wasn’t the right thing for your wife but you realised you might do something stupid and walked away before you did, then sought advice. Ok it wasn’t great leaving the wife alone but I reckon if your relationship is good she will understand.

That’s the difference between good dads and the nasty vile creatures you hear about in the news. You already care enough to protect your daughter and give her back to your wife while you sort yourself out. That’s a low point to start from but it’s a start.

I don’t have any kids myself but have helped out some close friends in some pretty dire circumstances with new born babies. One was in hospital for the first few months of his life and still has to go back regularly. I saw the effect of the trauma on the dad, who I knew was a good dad as they already had a daughter, but was in bits a lot of the time but hid it very well. Thankfully close friends saw this and helped out looking after the daughter so he could get to hospital easily, giving lifts and taking him out for a couple of hours to get away from it a bit. The mum was also supported a lot.

You might have to get the support from an Internet forum like this – but that’s ok if it works – you’re not alone and things will improve, it just might not feel like it ever will at the moment.

That’s only any good if the garage is integral. Most of the houses round here it is just mentioned in the details, but no detail such as size or construction, and never any pics unless it just happens to be in the main frontal house shot.

Thing is – tesco prices are there to see and it’s low price stuff. Really it’s just clever product positioning and pricing to make a bigger profit.

EA’s are simply useless cretins that simply cannot justify the massive fees they charge.

I’m pretty sure I’m going with an online estate agent to sell our house. The EA places I’ve been into in my town have been absolutely useless.

We both work. As a lot of couples do. One place couldn’t and would not visit our house outside office hours 9-5 or even a Saturday. They wouldn’t offer anything else and actually seemed to act like it was odd that we couldn’t do office hours. They didn’t even listen – we said we got home about 5,30 so they then said maybe we can do 5pm and a stretch. Errr no you muppets, we won’t be home.

That presentation is fantastic – ok it’s for a very expensive house so a lot of commission but it isn’t that difficult to do something like that for all house with modern cameras and programs and web templates. No idea why the EA’s think that 1980’s presentation standards are still ok.

I’m staying in or near the same town, probably 30 mins away in traffic at the most. What happens if you want to move 200 miles away? A viewing is a major undertaking in those cases as these lazy useless estate agents are, yet again, making any potential move more difficult just because they can’t be bothered taking more than 8 pics or writing more than 100 words for their £2/3/4/5/6/7k fee. 👿

I want to know what they are like – am I the only one??

Because women decide which houses you go and view and they aren’t interested in your planned weekend activities [or cellars and garages][/quote]

My wife is very interested as she cares about what I want/need as much as her own needs. Does yours not?

I think they’ve got some catching up to do…….

If you are a bit limited by time (which we may be when looking seriously) then you might dismiss a house that has an awesome workshop/garage which would be perfect but just described as “outbuilding” with no photos or description.

Google earth/maps/streetview is ok but it doesn’t show any detail, and the quality of the image is poor so doesn’t add much to your knowledge round here.

I’ve talked about this to MrsRobdob and she says I would need to find someone nice pretty soon if she passed away as she wouldn’t want me moping around and being depressed – she knows me very well! I have said to her the same if she wanted to but to find someone who cherishes her as much as I do would be the most important thing…..

Of course there is no hard and fast rule about when you can move on and maybe have another relationship. People who are “outside” that situation may think that 1-2yrs it soon soon – maybe thinking that they have forgotten that deceased person when the new relationship starts. That doesn’t happen though – all your memories will still be there and you will still chrish the times you had, they don’t go away once someone new comes along. Hopefully that new person will respect that you will still have those feeling, and if there are kids in the equation they will also need to know that their birth dad/mum’s memory will not be forgotten or pushed aside.

There was a feature on R4 recently where a woman had lost her husband suddenly – they were soulmates and she was paralysed with grief. the way she described it was shocking, saying things like she cried in ways she didn’t know were possible. She was able after a few years to remarry another great bloke who respected the love they had and the memories the kids had and fitted himself in the right way to make room for the lost husband but not replace him (hard to describe but it worked well basically). It was a very uplifting story in the end and gave a great insight into how devastating grief can be but how it is possible to get past it and start again.

I checked my last car (Astra) to see how accurate the speedo was – at a steady 50mph on the GPS it was indicating 51mph on the speedo. I think speedos are a lot more accurate these days so going at 35mph thinking your actually doing 31.7 so you won’t get a ticket may well be the wrong move.

As the OP has now demonstrated. 🙂

After watching videos of what happens to humans when they get hit at 35mph versus 30mph and the massively increased chances of killing someone at the higher speed because of those differences you ain’t ever going to see me go above 30mph. I do seem to attract long lines of Audi drivers driving 5cm off my bumper for making that decision though. I love watching their increasing levels of rage as I dare to keep within the law…..

We get at least 2 or 3 calls a day from either “free government funded boiler” or “free insulation” or PPI. We try and laugh at them but it’s getting boring now. We are on TPS and have spoken to them in the past to ask them to remove our details but nothing works.
They don’t even bother with real people calling now, it’s all just automated calls. How on earth they manage to get any business that way (or maybe it’s more likely a con) is beyond me.
I can see how the sensitive/elderly/gullible can be affected by this barrage of calls.

I think ebay are trying to a) be more like a shop so people think that they are shopping at Amazon and have the same backup/expectations of service and b) charging so much to sell because of a).

I’ve listed a lot of things on eBay over the years but in the last year I’ve only gone for collection only and ended 95% early when people have asked and can come and pick up and pay cash.

If they aren’t careful they are going to suffer in the long run as sellers realise it’s just not worth it any more. Most stuff on there is new stuff from big sellers now when I search for stuff.

Triple S are way too expensive and hardly any colours to choose from. I thought the stuff they did for me was a little dull too.

Don’t know if they do mail order but a lot of the Retrobike guys use LSN coatings in Castleford. People who know their paint well think the bikes I had done with them are painted, not powder coated. A simple wonderful job they do and way too cheap! (Really).

1994 Kona Kilauea done in metallic fleck silver. £45 frame forks and stem.

1997 Mk1 DMR Trailstar (for sale!)

    Proper shiny!

Such a nice even thin coat it didn’t even fill in the shallow stamped dropouts.

    1995 Kona Hahanna
White is very difficult to do perfectly apparantely but there was only 1 slight blemish on this finish. £30.

2000 Marin Bear Valley done in same white. £30 again.

I recently got a brand new Focus and I would LOVE to own the ST version. I have the lowest powered diesel but it’s still a joy to drive and built very well. It handles better than any car I’ve driven so far.
The top of the range Focus’s look great as well – a ST or Titaniium X with nice wheels would be very nice.
A Mondeo Titanium X in red or blue also looks fantastic.
Also you don’t see as many of the top end Fords around (badge snobbery) so they are now quite unusual. A much wiser choice than the boring VAG group cars IMHO.

Do you think you got the same level of interest with online as with a High Street Agent?

Not many people look round the high street for houses nowadays IMHO.

I spoke to a local estate agent and he confirmed this. He did say there is an advantage in a high street EA for properties which older people may be interested in as they tend to use internet much less. Also fi you don’t have time to show people around the online places may not be good for you as you generally have to show people round yourself – I prefer doing it myself as I’ve been in retail a long time and am pretty good as face to face promotion.

I think I’m going to use House Network. I think if you price your house realistically and its a fairly standard property (mine is a 2 bedroom terrace in good nick in a popular area) you should easily sell within 6 months.

Even if you go for one of their luxury packages it would, in my case, save me over £1000. That’s a huge amount of money to save however you look at it.

Halfords are getting better at bikes all the time, I go in a lot of their stores and the staff are getting better at service and knowledge and skills.
They are building up some nice brands with good bikes that people want to ride and will ENJOY riding.

The other shops better watch out for them. I’d certainly buy a bike there now if one suited me.

I like the designers honest ethos on the frame and spec – very refreshing – yeah that’s what I want, a bike I love to ride, not necessarily the latest look or fashion.

Just re read the ad – it’s only a vinyl wrap on the body so you could spend £200 repainting the bumpers and wheels and peel off the vinyl if you wanted to.

People take the mick out of cars like this but I’ll bet it’s probably one of the best looked after examples you could buy. People who spend that sort of money doing up cars like that tend to look after their cars very well as it is obviously their pride and joy.

I’d rather buy this one than the one used to drive the kids 2 miles to school every day that had dents and scratches all over it, an engine that never gets warmed up or services properly, that stinks of crap and has a knackered interior.

I reckon that’d look a lot better with the wheels re done in black and lowered properly. I don’t know why we have such a downer on modified or personalised cars in this country. You might not like it but the owner probably did – and you don’t have to buy it. I’d rather have that car than a ubiquitous 1.9tdi VAG yawnmobile.

I bought 3 Camping Gaz stoves for peanuts. It’s good because I’ve wanted a stove for a while but something stable to put in the car, not a backpacking type one.

Even more amazingly my wife wasn’t mad when she saw I have bought 3. It’s a miracle!

After a bit more googling I’ve found that I may have my phone settings wrong. I turned off 4G (which I don’t pay for) – apparantely if you have it on your phone won’t use the Edge service at all and maybe thats why I’ve been struggling with my iMessages. Seems to be ok ok websites now too, although not as good as it used to be.

I would go for 3 but my wife got a sim only from them for her iphone and there is no signal in our house with them. Not even enough to send a text message.
