Who else would you buy from, would be happy to look at some alternatives

Anyone who gives more than a distant chance of receiving anything would be better. ;)

The business is really a scam now, I have no idea why people wait more than a couple of weeks myself.

You’d have to be mental to order anything from them IMHO.

After changing my diet recently I can safely say there has been a dramatic increase in overall speed and gustiness wherever I seem to be. :-)

I assuming the mouthwash can be used for a multitude of disinfecting and cleaning duties.

The only thing the comb could be for after a bad bottom experience is to maybe comb the clagnuts out?

I forgot about that trip advisor offline app, it does look good but not used it yet.

I was going to go with Three recently but the reception is so bad where we live it wasn’t worth doing.

It would depend on your rims I think. If they are quite tall you could maybe file the slot on the brake arms to make the pads reach lower. Probably worth bolting the campag brakes on and eyeing up to see if it’s possible. Wouldn’t go too extreme with the filing though!

BASE jumping is reasonably safe if you know what you’re doing and you’re not crazy, it’s the wingsuit stuff which is beyond mental. You just don’t have the level of control to get out of stuff if something changes, such as thermals. If you misjudge something, which is easy at the sorts of speeds they are going at, there’s no room to correct it……

    Working until your 70 something

I’ll still live many times longer than the people who retired 30/40 years ago.

If we live a lot longer you can’t keep the retirement age the same, it’s just not affordable. Unless people pay more in themselves but that isn’t going to be popular…

Well done you, hope you feel proud of yourself.

Yes I was proud to go to work and do what was expected of me. I knew I had a good job and pay increases in line with every one else in the country, plus a better pension than most too. I didn’t ask for a strike for not being paid to cover their jobs for the day either. ;)

just would like to point out to the various Union bashers on this thread that virtually all your employment rights have come about due to unions fighting for them, it also amazes me that people have viewed union activity and attitudes historically as negative and anti business when I fact they were protecting their members interests (pay conditions etc)

I would agree that the unions did great work in their early years and were the force that made working in the UK a great deal better for many people. However their antics since the 70’s have distanced themselves from a lot of people.
A recent example is this – I worked in retail when the crash came in 2008 and managed to keep my job but didn’t get any cost of living increases for 2 years. At the end of that period I moved to be a civil servant. When I got there I was astonished to find the union there was demanding a 4% pay rise (2010 ish) and thought that this was perfectly reasonable. The people I met who were in the union and active in promoting it clearly had no idea about the wider world and just thought they were entitled to whatever they asked for. IIRC we got about 2% (might have been less) and I was astonished we got that, I was chuffed, but the whining unionists just wouldn’t shut up about it. When I told them what it was like outside their own little bubble they just turned into brick walls, nothing you said to them made any difference. And that’s the attitude you get with a lot of union people, they are so insistent they push their own agenda, which is fine, but they never listen to reason or want to debate anything properly.

The sad thing is that I was considering joining the union before I got there but there is no way I would do now. I was very happy to walk past them as they striked in that public sector strike a while back.

This years pay rise offer is 2% implemented from July ie 6mths @ the new rate before negotiations start again!
Any new starts in the company start on different contracts which include less holidays and several thousands of £££s less than the test of us!!!!!

So you’re getting a pay rise which is pretty decent despite other people starting in similar jobs earning less? My heart bleeds…..

Update – got the listing through within 24hrs for me to review/edit (they said 48hrs!). Just a couple of minor alterations and I rejigged the photos a little.

Here it is http://www.housenetwork.co.uk/my_site.asp?id=eldonrdhn&house=1 (and before you ask about security – all my bikes are now elsewhere just in case!!)

I confirmed the listing and within 1 hour got a call from House Network to say someone wanted to do a viewing. Result! It’s not even gone on rightmove or Zoopla yet so he must have seen it on the HN site.

I suppose I need to find somewhere else to live……

You get the same service, and even better, from LSN, for a third of the cost. I know as I’ve used Triple S and LSN but I’d never use Triple S again. £40 from LSN for frame/forks and 2 stems all properly masked with astonishing quality of finish which most people swear blind is normal paint. That’s for a metallic fleck silver finish. Nice thin coverage so you can still see frame details and stamps.

Agent came round today to take pics and do the EPC. Very nice bloke, said HN were really good to work for. Spent a long time getting the right shots and doing a good plan of the house. Well chuffed at the visit.

I will get an email in the next 48hrs of my house listing which I can edit and choose pictures etc. He must have taken around 50 photos minimum which is a lot for a 2 bed terrace!

WTF does that mean? They couldn’t be bothered to prepare the evidence? Either he was or wasn’t insured at the time?

Sometimes a prosecution team will decide not to pursue one or more of the charges because it would be pointless. I did a case recently where we dropped one of the 2 charges – we could prove both but it saved time and the facts of the dropped charge were used again in the sentencing so even through the defendant ended up guilty of one offence he got the punishment that he would have gotten if both cases went forward.

Every case is different and the way defence and prosecution act can seem really odd if you don’t know the details of the case, especially the legal discussions the public won’t ever hear.

Triple s good but expensive and not interested in letting you apply graphics before applying lacquer, and you must pay cash and couldn’t confirm price until job was done. With the final the size of the final bill from them I wish went to bob Jackson.

It ended up being a lot more expensive than they said initially with me….. load of rubbish I reckon…

Yeah I know! Triple S did a stem and forms (rigid) for me a few years back and it ended up being £60 ish. LSN Castleford is the place to go for powder coat.

Triple S do a good finish but it’s expensive and there’s not much colour choice at all.

Link to their properties on that page, 1000+

Who finds properties based on who is selling them anyway? You go to a site that includes them all. Not the individual sellers.

If you go to rightmove and look at their ads in there you can see there are quite a lot of them.

I can’t see the point of them offering to search properties for sale on their own website as they put them all on the popular online ones (zoopla, RM etc) – no point in adding a service to their own website which is covered well enough by the big players.

If the market is up and you can do the viewings then online works, if the market is down then go local.

But if the market is down that doesn’t mean the available buyers all start going to high street EA’s rather than looking online? I can’t see the logic there…

The only thing high street EA’s might have is a waiting list of potential buyers – but those buyers are still going to be looking online as well. The lists of potential buyers the high street EA’s have are just there so they can make the sales without having to go through the advertising process – they don’t charge you any less though!!

I paid £700 up front and nothing more to pay. The premier package was £599+VAT and I paid £99 for the EPC as its done at the same time. I had a voucher code for 5% off (EKMJJZUBHM if anyone else uses them) which I used to make it £700.

Normal estate agents would cost me at least £1500 without the EPC. I don’t have that sort of money to waste, and even if I was loaded I can’t see the point of handing over more money to have exactly the same work done.

Only negative I can find is there is no high street presence, but that’s only needed for the houses that might appeal to the older generations who still go round the EA’s (retirement houses, bungalows??). Also you have to show people round yourself but most people prefer being shown round by the householder anyway.

I’ll update on Friday once the photos have been taken etc.

Report to environment agency about the scrap cars. They should have a permit (they won’t have) to keep/treat waste vehicles. They might be able to get things moving.

At the same time get the landowners details. Go and speak to him and be very very nice. Try to do things for him like weigh in the scrap/sell the vehicles and caravan to get him some cash. Offer to get it all sorted for him without him having to do anything – mention that the authorities are interested and you’d like to help him out. In reality all you’d have to do is some quick eBay listings or call the local scrapyard to fetch the metal/vehicles. Don’t mention its to improve your view – all you’ll do is reignite that fire of a previous dispute.

Been to look at the bike. Oddly enough the frame has disc mounts and canti mounts but a non disc Rohloff is specced with V brakes.

Had a good look and picked it up – it’s not actually that heavy in the main but the rims and tyres are the main issue – 785g (can’t remember model but they were Rigida and I looked them up on the internet) rims and Schwalbe Marathon XR tyres which are absolute beasts – 1kg each ish.

The rims aren’t that wide so I reckon a quick fix is some much lighter tyres – 500g should be easy to find and save 500g of rotating weight for very little money. The rims only have 1500 miles on them so I recommended we just try the tyres first.

He loves the Rohloff and finds the bike very very comfortable so I said why change the bike itself? Even if new rims were fitted I reckon it would only cost £150 to save 750g of rotating weight PER WHEEL which would make a HUGE difference.

Glad I don’t have another bike to build anyway!!

Not sure on the rims, will find out soon hopefully.

Looks like you have to send the Rohloff back to the factory to get it converted…. http://www.rohloff.de/en/service/faq/speedhub_50014/disc_brake/

I am trying to find out whether his bike has a disc compatible Rohloff but I don’t think it does from memory. He’s sending me pics. I know his bike has V brakes so it’s unlikely a disc hub has been specced by Thorn.

If it isn’t disc compatible then v-brake only is fine, the cost to change the Rohloff to a disc one would be too much.
