I have coil u-turn Sektor RL’s Hora, not the bottom of the range but considering the price for new ones, I think they’re a bargain and if you find a 2nd hand pair even more so. I like the feel of coil, and they have rebound, compression and lockout, not to mention travel adjust which is handy, especially if your swapping from Frame to frame ;-)

Puddletown is great for riding. Lots to do still. There’s always loads of DH bikes whenever I go but each to their own. Theres a map of the trails on the Ride puddletown facebook page.

    Oh go on then:

Frame – Morewood Shova ST. Any other Morewoods on here?
    Brakes – XT M785
Fork – RS Sektor Coil U-turn
    Gears – 1x9sp XT
Wheels – WTB I23 Frequency with Hope pro 2’s – Red.

Specialized Allez Sport upgraded to 105.

    Thinking about a 29er too ;-)

I don’t have the Windchill to hand at the mo, but it is a large, and quite close fitting. Sleeves are long, but not too long, so I wouldn’t size up particularly.

Check out the Endura Windchill, loving mine. softshell front, Roubaix/fleecy sides arm and back. keeps you pretty warm, and has pit zips for cooling down when needed.

I stayed in Antibes a couple of years ago and will be going again in June. Lovely part of the world. There are diving trips from Nice which is worth a shout if you’ve not done it before. Also take the train to Monaco, nice scenic route along the coast and there you can gamble like a highroller.

I have recently ordered WTB I23’s on Hope pro 2s from CRC. Bought both wheels separately, so got the £40 off on one and then £15 off the other using the discount codes. Jobs a goodun. Have yet to ride them as they’re for Xmas but worth a shout, or the I19s if you want to go lighter.

I use this Blue Ice pack
    http://www.blueice.com/products/en/10-warthog-26l.html

Its a climbers pack, but don’t let that put you off, made from super tough cordura, waterproof, never had any leaks at all, all the construction is amazing quality, would have to be for alpine climbing, I think there is a lifetime warranty on it, and it can take a bladder if needed. 26L is big enough for a change of clothes, laptop, food etc, and the padded back is comfy.

Good if you fancy something a bit different. It is Green though..

Hi Sib, Just picked up this from Ribble
    http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-track-bike/workstands-bike-tool-aluminium-workstand/bikework200000000000

Can be had for £55, and the photos really dont do it justice, its huge and the quality looks to be good. Lots of threads on here about it and has been reviewed on Bike radar too. and you’ll have some wonga left over for something else shiny.

    Edit: doh!

    Ok my two cents worth…

It sounds like he needs some support and confidence boosting rather than the ‘kick him out’ scenario…

I was a little lost a few years back and decided to go to Oz. I went with with the intention to work, get experience, meet new people and had the best 9 months of my life. Being on the other side of the world, away from home certainly focuses the mind on getting work.
Pitch the idea, encourage him to get a job to pay for this trip and you could contribute towards his flight say, that way he has something to focus on.

Perhaps he could get a job in a Rehearsal studio? That way he would be working towards a goal, in a job that he’s interested in, and learning the value of earning a wage. Just an idea, but travelling and working abroad is a great way of broadening the mind, and figuring out who you are, not just having a jolly. It will make him appreciate what he has as well, namely good parents that love him. Hope this is of some help to you.

Hi Paul, I recently got a Mtb batteries V2 XML from smudge on here. £89 with bar and helmet mount. Very impressed so far, quality good, nice and bright and good run times. Separate battery but it can be easily strapped to the bike stem or left in your bag. Think the stated lumens are 1000, not sure if its that good but bright enough for off road for sure.

A few years back, I used to travel up to London every day on the train and saw the girl of my dreams – Train girl.

Every morning we used to get on the same carriage and have eyes at each other but I never plucked up the courage to go talk with her. Then one day she just vanished, no more Train girl, my mates reckon she was a ‘one under’ so for **** sake ‘seize the day’ or you could miss your opportunity altogther.

Id go for pedals, bars and tyres personally, made a world of difference for me. Having a tyre which is very confidence inspiring will help big time. Something like a single ply high roller has loads of grip, works in most conditions and aren’t too expensive. I wouldn’t go super wide with a bar but maybe up to 710mm, adds more control.

I’ve just fitted a Conti Mudking 1.8 and medusa 2.1

The mudking was not cheap £36 from CRC, but supposed to be very good. Lightweight and good protection, will get out at the weekend. Alot of people swear by bontrager xr muds.

How about a Staffie? dont believe all the crap thats written about them, they are really friendly dogs, great with kids and huge problem with them being abandoned (presumably lots of chavs get them and then wonder why they arent that ‘ard).

We have one and shes soppy as anything.

Hey Jimsmith, some of the best spots are as mentioned Steyning, Friston and Stamner.

Friston is a good shout as you can go up there and find most of the good singletrack. There is a bike shop at the edge of seven sisters country park(Friston) and they have maps. I usually go past the shop up the hill and you’ll see a layby on the left. Park here, and just through the woods is the top of the DH run.

Stamner is great, lots of windy singletrack. I would park at one of the top carparks, off ditchling road, and go left from here and your at the top of lots of singletrack routes. This is probably the best place if you don’t want to get lost as you cant really stray too far, and there aren’t any big drops or anything for your inexperienced mate.

Steyning is my local spot and there are some ace tracks down off the south downs, hard to find though.

hope this helps. There is plenty of riding in the south!

I run 1×9 and use a superstar chainguide. They are great for the money, either a top and bottom guide or just go for a top one which is about £20 I think. A little noisy but never lost a chain.

Thoroughly recommend MPB, bought a Nikon D70 from them, and its been great. Met the owner of the site when I went to collect, and seemed a decent chap. You can get good lenses from there too, either start with a 50mm prime lense, great for portraits, general reportage type stuff, or 18-55mm zoom if you can afford it.
I rate Nikon, as very easy to use for beginners, but you cant go wrong with Canon either.

A slight tangent, but I know of some ‘big firms’ in London who allow their employee’s up to £5000 on cycle to work, so all the suits can go get posh pinnarello’s and such like.

Thanks for all the advice, it looks like a trip from sospel to Menton would be good. Such a beautiful area. We are staying in Antibes so not too far.

As its a family holiday, it could only be a days riding I think (although id love to return, Ash I see you are doing a Transprovence skills trip with Greatrock next year).

My buddy who’s going is pretty in-exeperienced, he used to ride bmx but a lonnng time ago, is he going to cope or fall off a cliff?

    Juan do you hire bikes?

    Cheers
