For riding you also have puddletown, wareham forest and uk bike park so there’s plenty to do. I went to uni in Bournemouth and its very ‘generic’, town gets very boring indeed. It’s more students and hairdressers than old people though. Dorset overall is a lovely part of the uk, I’d move there.

OP, I think its worth taking a look at Robens Tents. The Voyager might suit, has an optional groundsheet for the porch, and is well made. Some good deals about on last years version.

I’d head to South of france. Good wine, good cheese, Fine women, and the Maritime Alps. Hot climate and amazing beaches. You can get by with a little french and enthusiasm. Its beautiful.

Sorry to hear of your troubles woodlander. Councelling can help an awful lot. Maybe she needs some time to think about this all, having a child together means emotions must be all over the place. Sounds to me like you have only wanted whats best for you both and your future. good luck with it all.

Im only concerned about weight as my current bike – morewood shova st, feels a touch heavy on longer rides, so if im going to change frames, I want to feel the difference, but its a good point about how a bike feels with weight not just the numbers.

I think the bandit looks great as it seems to be pretty versatile in the builds you can have and I guess that stems from it being solidly built in the first place.

Whats your bandit weigh, and do you know the frame weight too? Looks very nice.
    cheers

I’ve been looking at the Bandit, seems ideal. have narrowed it down to a Bandit, Blur Lt or Tr or a Five. Would be interested in the Genesis Grapil if I could chose the shock and it was better specced. What rear dropouts does the Bandit have, are they maxle?

Im also looking at the Bandit, Blur Tr, five/gyro and Grapil. Im currently thinking buy the grapil frame, sell the monarch shock, maybe put a CCDBair on it and have 135mm travel, works out the same price as the blur tr… and it will have 142×12 rear axle. run it 1×10 etc…all round trail/enduro bike.

Had a little Look back at the blog on Genesis’ website, says the proto frame weighs 7lbs, aiming for 6.7lbs for production…hmm

Any idea of the frame weight? My current bike is 30.6 lbs and but with a 7lbs frame, im trying to get a lighter all day bike.

Good pubs are pretty thin on the ground in Bournemouth im afraid. 60 Million postcards is a nice bar/pub, which does decent food, and has good alternative-ish music. Its close to where your staying , just opposite the BIC. Daisy O’briens is an ok Irish type pub in town – you can see im scraping the barrel here. If you want a decent pub with character your better off getting in the car and going to Burley Inn, new forest.

Each to their own of course, but £3000 Gets you a decent spec in my mind. Yes there’s no dropper, and crappy avids, but every complete bike that im interested in needs a few tweaks in the spec. I reckon the normal run will be a better bet, and spec it the way you want.

you either like oranges or you don’t I guess.

Slight hijack: I’m after some new headphones for using at the gym, and so they need to stay in my ear when jogging. Do the magic E10’s stay put in such a situation? Or should I go for the E30’s or the PL30’s? What’s the difference between the E ones and the PL ‘phones??

I use the soundmagic E10s on the bike and there pretty good at staying put. You get lots of different buds with them to get a nice fit, I use the double flanged ones and jam them right in.

Not sure about frame only, checked one out in store recently, felt a bit heavy, heavier than my Allez sport anyway – 21lbs… but looks great and probably rides nice.

Nicemates, I think for the 1×10 setup to work for you, and not be too much of a compromise you need to get a 11-36 cassette out back, and 32 ring up front. maybe go kooky and get a 33T? If you’ve got to spec all the parts for the build id suggest going for 1×10 first, and then add a double upfront and shifter/mech if its not right. If you buy a cheap ring for the front you wont be losing out financially too much if you do switch.

I have 1×9 on my Morewood with a 34T and 11-34 out back, its a struggle from time to time but I think the extra gear out back and 32T upfront will make it spot on and I never lose a chain on the fun bits.

I’ll take a look at the Hans dampf Gary, sounds good.

28lbs is a very reasonable weight for something so capable. I think the short travel maybe makes people think of it as an ‘XC’ bike, but it seems to be much more than that.

If I were to get one it would be 1×10, with lightish wheels, no silly carbon though, and tyres which can take a battering like black chilli rubber queens.

I would say you need at least 4 or 5 5mm spacers so you can play about with them above or below the stem. It all depends on your bar height and stem rise too. what you running? Measure it all up with the stem and spacers and cut. No wait, measure twice!

Good to know it looks better in the flesh. Im ok with the spec, would have been nice to see a Fox shock but I like Rockshox forks and Shimano slx brakes are excellent, way better than avid elixirs which get specced on so many bikes.
Its been said its like an alu blur TRc, which since has just come out, makes this look like a cheap alternative. ;-)

I think he just wants to spend his £2k so let him. Try taking a look at Specialized Camber/stumpjumper/epic, or as someone else said Giant. you’ll get fairly good components and something you can upgrade later if you need to.

Yeah same here (stag to Barcelona). Even the stag visited a prostitute. And snorted coke off her bare flesh.

Err good luck with that marriage.

I have to agree, Santa cruz have positioned themselves as a premium brand, fair enough, lots doing that. There’s plenty of cheaper bikes out there like NP mega, Titus El guapo etc, plenty to choose from for less money, SC Heckler too.

Very tempted to order…. it’s either that or a trip back to the UK for a mates wedding and to see my new born niece….

Its obvious what you should, you just have to decide what colour to go for.
