Go and talk to the exams officer at school. The grade tables are always difficult to interpret as there are rawa and UMS marks.

Really how much more creased are your shirts after folding/rolling than being worn in a car or on a train. Under a jacket who can tell anyway. If you fold like new your shirts will look box fresh as if you just bought it after a night out! Wear your creases with pride.

The rider who was least fatigued was able to win the sprint. Why was he less fatigued? Could be the bike…

I suspect the Tv coverage missed lots of crashing and running as it concentrated on the leaders who were making it look easy (because they were in the lead!). I spectate at lots of XC races and the best are ‘races’ where there are groups of riders who stick together rather than big gaps like this one. Still more interesting than watching a tdf stage mind…

There are bike lockers in the Riverside car park at the Oracle.

Not much to see in the Town really. The Abbey ruins are closed for h&s reasons. Forbury Gardens at the back of the museum are nice but unless you like chain shops nothing to write home about.

I have the 138g Selle Italia saddles on all my bikes road and mtb. No crash resistant but suit me fine.

My story was pretty horrible but I’m feeling really positive at the moment.

I’ve been out of action since February with an infection in my hip joint. They removed the ball from the socket to get rid of the infection and I’ve been without a hip since April. The infection has cleared now and I’m getting my energy back and starting exercising.

I’ve been surprised at how my upper body strength has improved since starting weights and using crutches. My hands have toughened up and I can now ‘walk’ for about an hour on crutches. Shopping trips with a backpack are great and trips to the local Costa to read the paper are a great way to while away the days. I’ve got two weeks before they put the new hip in but I’m not actually that fussed as I’m getting about pretty well. Only bummer is I can’t drive (or ride!)

My advice is – just get out there – its just another challenge!

Well done. I’m waiting for a hip replacement next month and have a new bike sitting in the garage nagging me to be ridden. Keep it up… And yes you do need a new bike :)

Solvang is nice to stop at. Danish town in CA so not your typical shopping town. Pismo beach dunes are entertaining and there are atvs to hire/drive. Cambria is good for antiques and is home to a tiny bike shop (CBO).

My top tip is try to break the journey once you are on the actual cost road with a picnic at the state parks. The coast bit takes ages, is very twisty, and actually hard work for the driver.

    Good luck

Welcome to parenthood. Remember you are not their friend you are the parent. This is the description of a friend
” he’s always been a bit of a legend, very happy and bright and generally good company..”
Just say no. He’ll get the hang of it.

SD – rather hip replacement than knee replacement any day for me thanks.

Apparently these bone infections like to hide on rough surfaces so worn joints are more prone to it. Certainly recommend asking for blood tests if you have any sort of unusual joint pain as that wad the only sign with me (and some weightloss).

OP certainly needs to get it checked if it doesn’t clear after being cleaned out.

Shit and I thought my story was bad SD-253. I have/had an infection in my hip which wasn’t diagnosed for 10 weeks and ate my hip joint away. I currently have no hip and am waiting for the infection to clear before they put in a hip replacement. Soul destroying when they don’t know what’s wrong but once they knew the NHS has been brilliant for me and my head is much better now there is a plan. Docs have no idea how I got the infection in my joint either. Good luck.

The number of entries for these at the other rounds have been very low. Check the results on timelaps. Might be because they are on the Saturday with the main races on Sunday. Small entries means very spread out riders and not many people to race which can be dull. Are there any smaller races you could try first?

My tip is don’t encourage them to take ANY risks. I took novice colleagues out of three rides resulting in one concussion, one set of bruised ribs, and to top it off a compound fracture of the shin. My boss called me in next day and told me NEVER to take them out again if I wanted to keep my job.

Also I’d recommend the yellow Stans rim strip even if you’re running tubes as its thinner and therefore reduces the diameter on the inside of the rim.

Sorry DrP don’t get either of those ‘jokes’.

thanks for all the good stories. Feeling a lot more confident now. Still lots of questions for the hip specialist who I see on Thursday. Thanks all

Anagallis, what is hip resurfacing? Mine has come really quickly and was confused with back pain. And they do seem to be moving rather quickly straight to replacement.

The number of horses racing is higher and the fences bigger than other ‘jump’ races. Other races don’t lose two horses every race. Just make the National like the other races.

Surely the credit card companies would be interested and if joint accounts put on extra authorisations.
