How about a few 650b threads, after all a wheel that’s 1.5 ins bigger than a 26 is going to make a hell of a difference

    Hi Waterlilly,
I,m a Thatcham postie so will try and help you. The best road IMO is Glenmore cl. Small cul de sac, no alleys but close to train line. There is a high bank so it may reduce noise. The top end of Beancroft is the nicer part as further down are flats with dubious occupants if you know what I mean? So you will get foot traffic going by plus vehicles as there are several closes down there too. Oaktree rd looks to be ok but are older houses so could have bigger gardens depending on which side of the road. No alleys and further along the road might be better than the entrance end again for traffic from joining roads Alexander and Beech . Fokerham houses look nicer down the end but have alleys leading to a green so you may get more people through but it’s close to the Kennet school. I can,t help with schools though as only one of my grand kids is still at school and she,s just started but not at the ones you mention. Hope you find something suitable.

I have a crud catcher on my 29er and made an extension from a black ice cream tub lid, works for me even though its not shop bought or approved by STW. A very simple solution to keep you dryer.

Forget this one mate. Been in Thatcham 42yrs and a postie here for nearly 22. This house is on the edge of a not so nice estate and close by are alleys used by all to get to and from the town/pubs/etc. There are nice people and houses there but if you have the chance to avoid going there, do. Like Thrusty said, avoid the estate in station rd. called Kennet Heath…parts are like a ghetto sadly for the people that bought expensive houses there.

Hi, i reckon it’ll be spot on for you. I have a 19 1/2″ one and its fine, i’m 6 1″ with 34 inside leg. I changed down from a 21″ inbred 29er as it was too big for me. Like you i prefer a more upright riding position and it feels just right to me for xc. I found the Scandal handles so much nicer too.

just got my non t/less 29er rims and maxis beavers to seal using 26in. Tubes ghetto style with extra insulating tape underneath to pack out the rim to make tyres tight enough, took out valve core and used compressor.

have you tried with ordinary rims? I got my non tubeless rims and tyres to go up ok by using insulation tape and 26 inner tubes cut ghetto style with s/star t/less valves. the tape just made the tyres a tighter fit on the rim to seal initially.

Do the same people who think rotational weight is important also think fat tyred bikes in multitubed steel frames are great too. Add the weight of mud flicked up onto your bike and clothing and you still end up heavier anyway (whatever you ride) unless you just ride in the summer on dry dusty trails. I’m not saying who,s right or wrong just wondering thats all. 😕

Thats where mine goes. I don,t think it would be able to attach to the first retainer lug if it did,nt go that way. I could be wrong of course.

Certainly no more than I paid for any of my On-One frames….they do more than I.m capable of and I can buy better spec parts with the cash I save on an expensive frame.

Some cyclists need to get THEMSELVES under control before moaning about dogs and owners. After all humans are supposed to be more responsible than animals.

I have Elixer 1,s on my 29er. Bought them new a year ago from someone upgrading a new bike! The rear needed bleeding after a few months which i did with an ebay kit of 2 syringes. Its been really firm since and locks up easily. The front is still as fitted with no issues. Quite happy with mine so far.
