I think it’s fair to say that this marketing ploy has somewhat backfired

Had four different Reverbs do this on me. Each time sent back to SRAM and were replaced with new ones. Seemed to affect the newer 150mm drop versions badly so eventually SRAM got bored of me sending them back and replaced it with a 125mm version. Not had any issues since (fingers crossed)

The rim tape looks like a standard one, ie not stuck down. You’ll need some leccy tape to seal the spoke holes, apart from that, slice tiny X above valve hole, press valve through, seat tyre, add juice, go ride!

I think you did the hill of death in Ballure . the Impossible hill goes from Glen Auldyn to the top of Brookdale .
If you can clean the impossible hill 3 times with a 1×10 set up in a single morning I will eat all of my bikes .

I stand corrected. Said the man in the orthopaedic shoe

Joining the 1×10 revolution Neil? Did the impossible hill three times today on my single ring set up before my legs stopped working. Turns out it should be renamed

Yep, on my Trek Rumblefish. Drilled the seat tube about 4cm above the junction with the downtube.

Used a right angled drill because of the awkwardness of the location, the hole is about 8mm diameter to fit a grommet I had in there to run the hose through the middle.

    Works a treat

Turnaround at Fishers is at least 14 days. I’ve sent 5 Reverbs back this year after failures so know it well unfortunately.

If the OP hasn’t got a replacement post then this means two weeks without a bike, as opposed to a couple of hours in the garage doing it himself.

That might have something to do with it. They’re dead easy to service yourself if you have the correct tools

42t version here Yetiman, it shifted between the gears fine once on the General Led but going on and off is it was a right pain. Maybe the 2 cog SRAM version is better

Wonder how well this works with a 10 speed rear mech? I thought the 11 speeds were significantly different in order to get out the way of, and shift up to, the massive sprocket

This is the reason I ditched my General Lee. Regular rear mechs (medium and long cage, it made no odds) just weren’t capable of dealing with the big cogs effectively. No matter how much b-tension fiddling, it wouldn’t shift smoothly on and off the adaptor from the regular cassette gears.

The reason for it is the position of the upper jockey wheel, it’s too far back on a normal mech which won’t allow the chain to pick up on the cassette cog early enough to give you a good shift. This is where the XX1 type rear mech has the advantage at the minute.

I’ve gone back to an 11-36 cassette with a 30t wolftooth ring any I can get up everything I could with my General Lee.

Never had problems with Arch Ex rims but maybe I was lucky with my choice of tyres. Crests, on the other hand are an absolute nightmare, it’s no secret.

I ran Hans Dampfs and Bontrager XR4s on my Arch EX 29ers and could get them on and off with my hands simply.

I now run Flow EX 29ers which are easier still and are bombproof.

It may not be what you want to hear but maybe try different tyres? He’ll of a lot cheaper than swapping rims

Remove the front wheel and pads. Install the bleed funnel in to the master cylinder with oil in and plug out.

Squeeze the brake lever ONCE and allow it to return as normal. Remove bleed funnel and reinstall blanking screw. Reinstall wheel and pads.

What should happen is that the pistons sit further out and the space is taken up with the fluid that has come in to the top of the system via the bleed funnel. All this should mean less lever throw prior to pad-disc contact.

Failing the above, give them a bleed and store the bike with elastic bands holding the levers in, that always works

Give us more officers to drive those ‘idle’ vehicles and we’ll be out there doing what we’re paid to do. Unfortunately uniform officer numbers are low and falling. If the small numbers of us left weren’t out dealing with response calls we’d love to be out giving some public support with directed patrols. This isn’t set to change soon unfortunately

I’ve for an RP2 on my Rumblefish and you can definitely tell the difference between on and off when sat on the bike, noticeably firmer. Also, when engaging PP mode there is a definite positive action as it clicks in to place and you can feel resistance on the lever when you push it back in to open then it goes less positive.

Sounds like yours isn’t right. I’d go back and see if the shop have got another you can try to compare if I were you

If you’re going to replace a lever you might as well do the whole master cylinder assembly. I got one for about £35 on CRC I think. Keep the old one for spares

You’d be better with the triple chainset version for better chain line with the chain ring placed on the middle ring tabs. I’ve played round with a couple of combinations with double and triple chainsets and the best I’ve found is on my current M770 triple with the chainring on the middle ring 104BCD tab.

The spacing on the double chain sets put the chain ring a long way out from the BB shell (between middle and outer chainring position on a triple) compromising shifting and ability to effectively run a chain device. The chain line is crap and virtually in line with the bottom couple of cogs on the cassette.

Nice choice of chainset though, they look the dog’s danglies, would run one myself if I could afford it

You can run a problem solver on the right but you won’t need one on the left, if you run a RH Reverb upside down under the bars it marries in perfectly with the M785 brake (brake clamp closest to grip, Reverb inboard of it).

I had an M785 brake and XTR M980 shifter ran with an Ispec mount on the right recently but have gone back to a regular clamp as I couldn’t get the positioning of the shifter just right for me

Can this also be done from an iPad/iPhone?

Yep, really easily. Once signed up,to Photobucket it’s a 1 minute job to upload photos and copy & paste the link in to here. In photo bucket, ‘Select all’ on the IMG code of a photo then copy. Paste that link in to your text box on STW. Done

Inner ring locks on meaning I can gain an extra 20mm of bar width by hanging them out a little.
Wow – I hope the fit of the grip to the lockring is secure

It is, I’d know about it pretty quickly if that wasn’t the case :D

I live two minutes from the finish, have done it around ten times now, best time was 3hrs 30 when I was a racing snake in the middle of an alps guiding season, now with wife, kids and shift work I come in around 4hrs (4:03 this year).

It’s a great event, superb organisation for food and water stops, police escorts and junctions manned by bobbies, everybody comes out to watch and clap you along, real carnival atmosphere The first half now takes a straight forward route up on to the hills to avoid former bottle necks. The second half takes in a lot more techy riding – man made forest trail, weather proofed moorland singletrack, all of which is being expanded and developed for 2014.

You also get fed…twice at the sign on and presentation, where else does that happen?!

If you want to do it on the cheap, park up at Heysham and roll on with your bike and take advantage of the transport to start and finish. The ferry docks right in Douglas town centre so accommodation anywhere in town will be fine, most are bike friendly
