I give in ? How do I find that out ?????? I connect it everytime I ride, until the 10th May it worked perfectly, but I looked through the history last night and nothing has downloaded since then. As I say, it looks like its working perfectly, it does the whole “downloading information from the handheld” and then you get the line on the screen thing saying 4 minutes to go and then basically nothing seems to happen. It is exactly the same on garmin connect.

    Nope, thats the problem.

yep it does, goes through all the rigmarole and looks like it has worked but then nothing goes into the TC, same with Garmin connect.

Mark Renshaw is a brilliant bike rider and a brilliant guy, but neither he nor Matty Goss are sprinters, not proper sprinters in the mould of a Cav, Cipo or even Petacchi and they all would realise that they are in a lucky position with Cav, I mean look at his last two teammates that left to “make it on their own” Messrs Greipel and Ciolek. Both are happy to take whatever crumbs are left under Cavs table.

Mark recognises he is way better off as Cavs right hand guy, Bernie Eisel is the same, wherever Cav goes they will go. Matt Goss is a different kettle of fish altogether – he is after all only 24 and has already won M-SR I think it more likely that he would be the heir to Boonen’s crown (or Fab C’s) in the Spring Classics, he is big, strong, fast as hell and can ride like a man possessed.

Cav IMHO would not be well served by going to Sky in any way other than financially. He would be joining a team built around GC success, it just wouldn’t suit him NOT being the complete centre of the team. Wiggins would leave within a year regardless of what he says now.

But it will be interesting to see what happens. I spent half an hour up Alpe d’Huez last week while waiting for the final km kite to be blown up with Mick Rogers, he was keeping his cards pretty close to his chest, but reading between the lines, Cav will be in black and white next year (with a thin blue line)

IMHO Fargo is the best film I have ever seen. What I love most about the Coen’s films is that you never know what you’re going to get. Fargo and Burn After Reading is slightly offbeat humour with an edge, as is Oh Brother, but thats more “obvious” humour as is The Big Lebowski. And then you get No Country for Old Men which is, in short, utterly horrifying and BRILLIANT, and then True Grit, more commercial great film making.

Without the Coens and Tarantino, the world would be full of crap films not worth watching.

But The Ladykillers, what the hell is all that about ?

uplink, I know all about Cyclefit and helpful as Phil and Julian are (and they really are) they really sell to very wealthy City types. Those bikes are sooooooo expensive, Passoni over £5000 a frame and Serotta similar. Too exxy for me !!!

Thats really kind of you guys, I am feeling that maybe I am “states”centric when it comes to bike tartery, but (as an Aussie) I am massively proud of England and all we do here, so maybe I need to take the blinkers off. I have also been talking to Kevin Sayles at Woodrup, a good Yorkshire company if ever there was one ! And they sound great, a bit more pricey, but definitely one for the heirloom bike.

Rourke is someone I had never even considered till today, I really liked the guy I spoke to, they seem to be realistic and honest. I love that approach – something I have also found with Kevin at Firefly and before when he was at IF.

So, stainless vs Ti ?? Anyone got thoughts on that one ????

Dudie (and all the others with advice) thanks for that, decided that the time is right to get the whole thing rewired.

As for the socket heights, they’ll be kept low. This is a 3 story house with about a million stairs and numerous stairs even to get in the front door.

The problem with regulating for a minority is that it winds up getting the majorities backs up.

Ok, look, its not Astral Weeks, but try this, “Tea and Sympathy” by Bernard Fanning, the lead singer of Aussie band Powderfinger. It is, like I say, not Astral Weeks, but its a belter.

Antennagate ? Sorry ??? Is that the bit I’ve been hearing that coverage hasn’t been great, but helped by a case ??? If so, one that would help my case here as well would be good !

Guys brilliant advice allround. As some have said, as I have had a few sparks telling me it should be done, it should. But I live in an area where people have more money than sense. I don’t (Not that I have a lot of sense, but have very little money after buying this shed !) and so therefore am a little cautious as it seems to have been the default position upon entering the house (and I mean LITERALLY entering the house – not checking anything)

I reckon maybe I’ll get a EIC check first and see what they say.

Thanks for the advice guys. The problem is that the ground floor is largely on concrete, so all walls need chasing to get new sockets in. Quote of around £6k (only one so far) seems a hell of a lot of money when its all working and also going to cause a complete mess…..

Wish I had a sparks I trusted (not that I don’t trust electricians, just that I don’t know one.

    What to do ????????

And no, not a condition of the mortgage.

    Thanks again

    He bought this :-

Oh, how I cried. He bought it from Hastings Deering in Sydney, in the 2 years he had it, he burnt out 8 clutches. It went back to them suffice it to say.

There is still a bunch that go out from Addiktion in St Albans on a Thursday night I think. Rode with them all for years, but more of a (ahem) roadie these days. Good road riding through the Chilterns (I’m based in Harpenden) and all round NW Herts as well. Off Road St Albans to Harp, Hatfield, London Colney, Hemel, WGC all pretty good in places.

Call Neil at Addiktion and he’ll put you right (and you can get ST there too!)

I have one of those uber warm Rapha ear hats with the peak – look like Gomer Pyle without a lid on but oh so toasty.

But hadn’t thought about the fashion faux pas ! Bloody hell, helmet for MTB, several for road, one for the train bike……and another for skiing. Won’t be any room in the shed for bikes with all the bloody helmets hanging up there !

Going to Folgarida, supposed to be ok with manmade snow. Old and slow anyway with kids, won’t need much snow, just be lovely to get out in it. Wish I could take my land rover to play with !

Don’t forget that you are in Australia, not UK, buy local, Japanese or Holden/Ford at a push.

I’m an Aussie and never got used to how much they charge over there (when I went back 6 years ago) for Euro cars, I bought a LandCruiser for myself and a Forester for my wife, we loved them both.

Judging by all that you have said and given that you are in Aus, forget the Skoda, Volvo etc stuff and buy a Forester, we had a few year old one that we paid $10k Aussie for it, drove it for 2 years, almost wrote it off when I hit a wombat and still managed to get $11,000 for it. Its still going strong (despite that bloody wombat)

I am a massive fan of Landies but wouldn’t touch one over there, they are so expensive to fix and Freelanders are pants (in petrol which is all you’ll get over there)

Buy a ‘Cruiser, Hilux or Forester, they are all affordable and brilliant.

If you are asking the question, you already know the answer, it is absolutely yes.

    Yes they are slow
    Yes they are noisy
    Yes they leak
    Yes the break down
Yes they are CHEAP to insure (if you get an older one)
Yes they are CHEAP to fix
Yes they are more fun than you can imagine even on road (off road you will never stop smiling)
Yes they look like a meccano tonka toy
    Yes chicks will dig you
Yes the dog will love it

I have an ’89 110 with a 200TDi, paid £3k for it 4 months ago, spent £500 getting it spot on, been offered £6k for it already, but money won’t drag it out of my cold dead hands. I never drove my AMG E55 anymore so sold it, never drove my MG so sold it, almost never drive my E class Merc estate (but will keep that as my wife plans to drive on hols to France this year.

Diesel economy (with the 200TDi) is about 25mpg around town (which would be less of a problem if the bloody govt would reduce tax) but they are stunning fund, absolute hoot everywhere you go. You will only regret it when you sell it.

Hora, you’re right, its what I keep saying to myself, but its not been helping, thats why I’m at this place.
2unfit2ride, nah, thats not me, I work as little as possible to get what I need to have the life I want to lead, its not the volume, or the type of work I do, I love it, really, love it, but its the stress of the rest of my life that seems to be the problem. Its the way i am interacting with others and the fact that working alone I have no-one to spend the days with, that is definitely the problem. Keeping up with the Joneses ? F8ck that, couldn’t care less about what the Joneses have, I just want to be properly happy again (I know I should be, I have a fantastic life and great people around me)and not feeling like shite every time something crops up.

I just need stress dealing techniques, or it’ll all go Pete Tong.

Thanks again for your thoughts guys.

Thanks everybody for going out of your way to drop your thoughts, I am always glad to have the people on this forum to vent, rage or tell the good things to. I am an incredibly sociable person and have run large companies and huge numbers of people, but for the past three years it is just me. And, no Cinnamon Girl, I never ask my wife to make me coffee ! And when you can’t talk about your problems to your missus because its partly about her, partly about the worries financially (that she doesn’t want to know about and rightly so) its even harder. As a bloke, I find it easier to talk about “emotions” than most, but I don’t have a really close mate that I can talk this sort of stuff through with, a sounding board if you like. I agree with the whole “ride to work” thing, but it does get worse at this time of the year, so I will definitely try Kaesae’s suggestions. And anger management I honestly feel is dealing with the symptoms, not the root cause, I don’t think its the answer. I am just in a constant state of massive anxiety and anything kicks me off.

I can’t thank you all enough for caring about someone you don’t even know to take the time to respond and let me know that what I’ve been under is probably a bit more than the usual amount of stress, it really helps, it really does.
