Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I’m still in Bristol at the moment and second hand is very much my thinking.

What I’m basically trying to work out is whether a new (modern) bike would help me regain my confidence in riding off road. I do about 10,000 km a year on road and rode XC and Enduro for years before the two broken shoulders. I just wonder if modern slack geo makes for a much improved bike or am I seriously better off getting the IF back.

And anyone with experience of riding off road on Harris, am I kidding myself with how tough it is and would I be better off on a cross/gravel bike ??

So, seems a mixed suggestion box.
If I rebuild the IF, I only have a fork, literally nothing else.
So what is the recommendation of kit to hang off that ? I have no wheels, groupset, nothing. DO I go 1X on it ? What cranks etc, I have no bars other than my old XC race bars (skinny as)
What kit that I could pop onto the old IF would make it whizzy and cool ?
Has anyone on here shoved 27.5 wheels and tyres in a steel deluxe successfully ?

If not, who wants to buy my old whip ?!

Should I stick with a double ring up front or get all modern and go 1X ?

    Hmmm…..
rebuild the IF…. hadn’t thought about doing that

    Ok…..
What with ? Last time I bought stuff, SRAM was just out with X9 !
I have a set of Pace XCAM forks, the carbon ones and that is it…..
    Newer, slacker forks maybe ?

Or sell the IF and add the moolah to a new one.

Yeah, I know those shortcuts, but what happens is you normally need to right click over the photo and copy that, without a mouse you can’t do that and it isn’t the URL that appears in the task bar at the top of the screen.

    Anyone else ???

Hora, the answer is yes, definitely and I have it. After 20 years in recruitment, interviewing 1000 people a year and drinking triple shot coffees between 5 and 10 times a day, I am now massively sensitive to caffeine. I had to give up coffee completely about 24 months ago, it had got to the point that I couldn’t stray further than 100 metres from a loo and nothing was staying inside for long enough to get any nutrients. I thought I had bowel cancer, lets leave it at that. After 4 colonoscopies it was clear that I didn’t. A friend who is a senior GI nurse (very senior) said, “you do drink a lot of coffee and diet coke Sean, I think you should give up” I did, within a month, I was 100% better, the problem was I fell off the wagon about 14 months ago. Whoops. Bad, bad mistake. All kicked off again big time, and I got properly ill, to the point that I collapsed and got rushed to hospital with a suspected heart attack, again, it wasn’t but I had crippling low hemaglobin levels resulting in anaemia, this was brought about by the gut reaction to the coffee but I hadn’t really taken it all in. In short, with a Haemoglobin level of about 9 (should be 13) I was in a world of hurt and no wonder I was riding like a 90 year old. Off the coffee entirely (drink decaff only and tea) and am now 110%, feeling like a million bucks and honestly 20 years younger.

In short, yes, it is a drug, you can definitely react to it and it is hugely addictive.

My name is Sean and I am a coffee addict, its been 4 months and 17 days since my last espresso.

Nope, not shared. Not that I know anyway…..how would I know ? It is every spreadsheet though even brand new ones and ones that I have successfully pasted hyperlinks on in the past. There has obviously been a global change to the Excel. May need to remove and reload Excel from the discs ?

The thing is that I use Google Chrome because Internet Explorer seems to be so massively unstable on my PC. When I use it though (IE) I can at least use the browse webpages links and use it that way, When I manage to use IE, I can INSERT-HYPERLINK and click on WEBPAGE, then the stupid paperclip comes up and says AN ERROR OCCURED WHILE BROWSING FILES, when I then Click on OK the URL goes in to the WEBPAGE NAME and the name of the person goes into the TEXT TO DISPLAY section.

This is an old version of MS OFFICE btw. I think its 2000 so its old and has never been a problem until about 2 months ago.

    Any ideas ???

    OH…….MY………GOD !!!

It works !!!!!!! Double click the Cell and that works on the Mac

BUT none of them work on the PC, 😥 tried the F2, tried the double click, tried pasting into the formula bar and the Paste Special and none of them work at all………..you’ve sorted the key issue out, but the PC one is still a problem, come on STW’ers, thinking caps on !!

Why did I persist with the idiots on the MS forum for so long. If you have a problem, get a mountain biker to sort it !

Yep, read all the Scandi thriller types, Jo Nesbo is a lot darker than most, Steig Larsson came good with the Dragon Tattoo books, but Jo Nesbo is definitely not the new SL, very different to my thinking. He’s a bit more like a Henning Mankell’s Wallander with Harry Hole, but much darker. Some pretty nasty stuff in the books and they are not pick up, read and forget, they make you wonder what some people have floating around in their heads – in this he is more like Larsson. IMHO Mankell knocks spots off the rest of them, very good at social commentary through the books.

I like Jo Nesbo, but they do not make for easy reading. In some ways, a bit overrated, you feel like you need a good wash and scrub after you read them. Also try Michael Connelly and his Harry Bosch series if you like a good cop story and a main character who you care about.

Out of left field though is Yrsa Sigurdardottir, Icelandic and very, very good.

I had to go out, so nothing has been done yet, whats the difference between the ivy bridge and the sandy bridge one ?? don’t forget I am not a power user (already well and truly ascertained !!!!) nor am I anything but a complete luddite donut 😉

And are the refurbed ones safe to spend that sort of money on ? I like the idea of £640 rather than £850 !

I’ve got a Moots Vamoots RSL, have had Lynskey, Setavento and Litespeed, the Moots is the most “un”Ti ride I have ever had, it is stunning, really stiff, really fast and still comfy, but no more so than a good carbon frame. I thought the Setavento was amazing for the money, Lynskey was good but a bit dull and the Litespeed was like it had a hinge in the middle of it.

I also have a Desalvo Ti crosser, its chalk and cheese to the Moots, much more comfy and forgiving. If it were me and you had £3500 to spend on frame and forks I would get down to Mosquito and test ride 2 bikes, which was what I did, the Vamoots RSL and the IF TiFLW. The IF shaded the Moots, but in the end I bought a very new second hand Vamoots RSL for almost half retail and I never regretted it.

I have owned just about every high end road bike there is, C40, C50, EPS, Look 585, 595, Cannondales of every shape and colour and the Moots Vamoots RSL is hands down by a country mile the best bike I have ever ridden. I put Vittoria Pave tyres on it and ride it all winter, it is honestly a thing of beauty and I find myself still going out to garage just to look it and it makes me catch my breath.

However, I have recently been tempted to add a little something British to the quiver, if I had a spare bit of cash (and surprisingly little considering just how custom he will make them) I would go Columbus XCR or 953 by Donhue Bikes, [/url]Thomas is the loveliest bloke, will do whatever your imagination will dream up and they are stunning. If he was in the USA he would be up there with the Vanillas and the Sach’s he is a master. For my 50th in a few years, I’ll be getting something from him.

But honestly, if you can run to it, go with the Moots, I will never ever sell mine.

Could have done, but the red saddle is pretty tired now and I wanted the carbonio SLR on the Moots. And as they say you don’t look at the mantelpiece when you are stoking the fire ! 8)

I’ve had loads and love them. Had a 1961 when I lived in Australia, sliding windows and the whole bit, brilliant car with a magic wand gearbox, then came over here, in the end owned a Red Hot limited edition bought from a little old lady one owner car, had about 20,000 miles on after 10 years, wonderful thing, then really got the bug, bought an RSP Cooper with the John Cooper Works S conversion, that is the car I wish I had never sold (which I did when I went back to Oz for a couple of years and have regretted it ever since) and a Wolseley Hornet called Ivy that I bought from the original owner in Bournmouth.

They are great cars, would have another one tomorrow and if I could buy my S back for twice what I sold it for, I would. 🙁

All the rides are saved in the History but not in Saved Rides, I thought that Saved Rides was just for the files that you download about sportives or the like…..

    Will try the manual upload.
