Blader, hadnt seen your wanted post but I have a specialized romin in 155mm that I should get around to selling.

For me I’m really looking forward to 2018 training. I started with zwift at the end of October and have seen my ftp jump from 210w to 251w when I thought I was already doing relatively ok IRL. Looking back at last year’s riding there were quite a few 2 week blocks with no riding so I’m hoping even if I can only do zone 2 work then that’ll at least maintain current fitness. Watching the numbers change though and geeking out after a session is oddly rewarding and addictive. I’m trying to put together a training plan for this coming year to improve efforts on the flats, can anyone point me in the direction of a decent programme?

Yeah really happy with it though my hr curve looks painful. 161 average with a max of 171bpm. My personal max is only 174

Had my first race tonight on the smart trainer, its incredible how much easier it is not having to stare at the gradient numbers but feel it instead.

I started off feeling good and strong trying to hold in with the lead group of C’s in the SZR 4 lapper at 6pm. Managed to keep in until halfway up the climb on lap 3 and then a timetrial to the end with no one to work with. Finished 4mins off the leaders in the end but there was no way I could sustain the pace. Zwiftpower results show average power at 3.0w/kg which im really pleased with, a pr by 0.2 and a final result at the moment of 14/74. I guess a good chunk of the lead bunch must have been dq’d.

Picked up a t2240 today as halfords have reduced it for £170 which I thought was a steal. Genuinely suprised how much more interesting it is to ride on zwift than my dumb trainer plus I think compared to the new t2240 the old one was under-reading. I’ll have to try find a race to do tomorrow to give it a good bedding in.

Sliding my saddle forwards just another 5mm stopped all my numbness. Try some fore aft adjustments and also the angle. It may also be slightly too high

Ive noticed that halfords have the T2240 at £190 – is it still the right trainer to go for to get off zpower?

Most use the same fans / gas valves and control boards. A lot of it is dependent on how good your installer is such as putting the correct inhibitor in and an in-line air/dirt separator. I personally have a Remeha as i have access to spare parts cheap and would recommend it, been faultless so far in 7 years but it does get serviced properly.

Sorry, didn’t mean to be condescending. One of my go to snacks is packets of biltong from Asda, dried beef virtually zero sugar and tasty as hell. Also has an added bonus of upsetting people in the office for the smell it kicks out

Thanks Weeksy. I’m sat at about 76kg but haven’t really got the scope to drop much at all as my bodyfat is already as low as im happy for it to go.
You seem in a really good position with an ftp that high, plenty of water, protein and avoiding sugar would soon see you in B territory.

Looking at the results on zwiftpower it has me 7th out of 63 in C but the 3.2w/kg was what it showed me post race in zwift. ZP has my category at 2.7w/kg and my average is 2.8w/kg. Which is the figure to trust? Obviously it’s all relative anyway as I’m working with a dumb turbo and no power meter at the mo.

Tonight I tried racing again, my first go about a month ago i went in as a D, struggled to hold on then got dq’d as 2.7w/kg. A week after i then got dq’d by my neighbour for making too much noise. After some training doing a few adhoc rides and a couple of the training sessions i gave the 17:15 4 lap flat a go.
I’ve just put everything I could do into holding a wheel and crossed the line averaging 3.2w/kg. Looks like it’ll be another dq but either zwift is working or I’ve learnt how to dig deeper! 15W added to my ftp. I’ll take that.

    Sounds an awesome effort weeksy.

After a couple of weeks of doing structured workouts tonight I decided do just freeride just to up the mileage as I stacked it on the clubride today and broke the bike. Im amazed how much more stimulated I felt just randomly attacking people and the volcano climb. I almost hit pb stats that I prevoiously set in a race. Any tips for keeping your head in the game doing intervals as I being told they are the most beneficial way of training?

Had a psyc but sent it back as out wouldnt allow charging whilst being used. Bought a Taotronics unit to replace it and been really pleased (nearly 2 years old)

They are meant to be good trainers but have a terrible reputation for over-reading on zwift

I also have a propel and have a Kinesis Aithein for winter and love it. Would highly recommend one.

Back to basics, plenty of vegetables, potatoes, oats, pasta, rice, bread, milk, eggs.
Cook up massove joints of meat and use that for other meals etc. Find packaging factories, locally to myself we have a moy park and recently bought 5kg of cooked chicken breast for a fiver…

If you’re just cooking for yourself make 2 portions for your evening meal and reheat the spare portion for lunch the next day.

I had a leak appear on a freshly installs system, just the bathroom floor had been tiled and the ceiling underneath it plastered. I took a chance with fernox leak sealer and it actually worked to my surprise! That was on copper though not steel so may be different

Terrace house, upstairs in a room with laminate flooring (insulated underneath) then an offcut of carpet under the trainer. From their description the noise was high pitched rather than a vibration.

So it’s 8pm tonight for me, looking quite busy already with 49 riders in C so far.

Still finding my feet with this and racing full stop really, at 76kg would I be considered one of the lighter guys? On basic club rides I seem to cope better than others on the hills but then again it’s not a race condition.

When it comes to training and trying to build up to sustaining hard efforts on the flat, which training programme would be best? The FTP builder? It seems to be the fast flat stuff in the real world where I’m struggling to hold on.

I’m going to give either the 6pm or the 8pm race a go tonight depending on when I get home. Any tips for the London Classique course? It’ll be my first time on zwift on anything other than wattopia

There was a spate a while back, shame the tea leaves have found there way back again.

On another note do you know if the red route is open tomorrow? Im planning to go for a quick lap in the morning…

Read to page 4 and had enough, ling seems a real aggressive arse and find it hard to believe people will stick up for anyone with such an attitude.

As expected i’ve been bumped into Cat C with 2.68w/kg, looking at the times I would have been 59/94 in that cat. For the first time i’m actually excited by winter on the turbo

Thanks guys, looking forward to not being such a newbie and knowing my way around all this.

I think I could really do with a smart trainer though, burying myself not looking at the speed and incline then realising im -6% and should be trying to catch my breath a little. Is the tacx 2240 the one to go for still or is it worth spending the extra on an elite direto or similar?

All sync’d up and working now but not on the results list. Do they not publish cat D results or am I behaving like an impatient child?

Having got zwift set up last week (thanks for the motivation of this thread Weeeksy) I entered the race tonight as a cat D as a complete unknown and think that I may get DQ’d as my legs found a bit more power that I didnt know I had.

I set up zwift power before the race but logged in afterwards and cant get it to recognise my profile. Any ideas what Ive done wrong?

I mix my own drinks with 1 scoop of dextrose, 1 scoop of bcaa and 1 scoop of glutamine.

This gets all of your essential amino acids from protein to stop you burning muscle tissue for energy then take out either a protein bar or nuts for when I need a top up

Bit of a cheap post but I’ve got a 2016 Cannondale Beast of the East 1 in large that I need to list forsale which will be only just over your budget. You’d be welcome to come and try it at my local trail centre first so you can be sure theres nothing wrong with it.

Interested to hear stories about tubeless rims with non tubeless tyres.
I have tubeless giant slr wheels and some new schwalbe ones in boxes but have been reluctant as they aren’t the tubeless version

Agree 100% on the city breaks. We do a lads weekend every year and as were at marriage stage theyre getting used as stags.

Cant fault them amd each one good memories are made. Not huge money either. Memories are much more important than posessions so if you can afford it why not. FWIW I did turn down a stag last year to watch nascar but that was mainly due to how many days holiday it was taking away.

I think they are the same floorpan as the current shape. My bikes fit no probs with just the front wheel out. Road bike goes in complete.

It does perfectly on either ring, just cant get it to do the same on both chainrings on the same setup. It is all internally routed so i guess that could be the issue. Thanks
