In my personal opinion they are pretty darn rubbish, CCL or similar type shops are much better.

Tend to give better service and have a better know how too! Ontop of that if you are wanting slight upgrades to an off the shelf spec PC they will probably fit you the parts for a small fee.

Its the spoke snapping just above the nipple. Is that still fatigue.

Yes, the threads are the weakest part of the spoke therefore this is the point on which most snap I think.

Nope, they look like standard spokes to me.

Feeling pleased with myself, I pedalled the 50yds or so back to the house, came to a halt…….and forgot to clip out!! Cue grabbing the window sill as I went down & being perched at about 45 degrees, unable to pull myself back up. In the end I had to face the fact that I was going to have to let myself drop.

I did something very similar, only I was riding about the streets and I went round to my mates house and was riding around for a bit un clipping many times. Got to my mates house, stopped, forgot to un clip and collapsed sideways onto his dads van.

Oh so the nipple is snapping, too much tension?

Get it rebuilt with new nipples then.

I thought it was the spoke snapping.

When you snap a spoke its a sign of the time to have the wheel rebuilt with new spokes.

Hmm not sure, I’ve been running a normal ramped chain ring on a Shimano 8 speed chain and not had any slip but I have flexed the frame sufficiently to get some tyre rub on steep climbs..

    they are super cheap too!

yet seemingly are worth bothering with.

Damn sight cheaper and less messy though.

    The puncture tapes look good.

    And are super cheap!

Because it gets pretty close – a lot closer than anything else. I presume you’d also dismiss heart transplants as not worth bothering with because some people still die, low energy bulbs not worth bothering with because they still use some electricity, and education not worth bothering with because some people still can’t make objective judgements about stuff?

Punctures ain’t a matter of life and death.
Bulbs save money, tubeless costs money.
Education is needed to produce a product that solves the puncture issue completely.

    Foam tyre inserts anyone?

There more hassle than there worth and for the money, i think a schwalbe punture protection is likely to be more affective

or them puncture tape things, which basically act as the same thing but let you use any tyre but you get the idea!

It makes it a huge amount better than with tubes.

I cant see how it does, it still doesn’t completely solve the problem so why try fix something with something that doesn’t completely fix the problem?
Seems a waste of time and effort.

yet he’s just as much of a luddite as you.

I don’t think he is, he doesn’t want to change to tubeless as it doesn’t solve the issue completely and it would be too much effort.

Anyway you keep running your tubeless wheelset and I’ll keep running my tubes, I’ll laugh at you when your stood next to me on the trail putting a tube in your tyre and getting gunky latex shit all over the place while I just whip the tube out and put another in.

    Eat my trail dust.

    So getting punctures isn’t “broken”?

Feel free to carry on having to stop to fix punctures if you insist. I’ll carry on not getting them with tubeless.

Clearly tubeless doesn’t completely solve this issue though does it, evident from other posters.

That must be just marketing bollox

Some people dont have punctures in tubes for years. So clearly its not just a tubeless thing that one.

Well it’s ‘cracked up’ to prevent punctures becoming flats, you think it makes the situation worse I take it?

I don’t think it makes the situation worse, it tries to fix something that wasn’t broken in the first place. Tubes will last forever in your tyre unless you get a puncture and its easy to change tyres. Tubeless tyres need topping up with gloop every 6 or so months because it dries out and it makes changing tyres an arse ache.

What marketing bollocks is there around ‘ghetto’ tubeless?

I meant tubeless in general, it’s supposed to stop flats unless there’s a rip and as some people have stated it doesn’t work.

    R.lepecha

Including tubeless? If you’re getting a lot of punctures and tubeless with sealant doesn’t improve things you’re a klutz.

Or maybe just maybe, tubeless isn’t all its cracked up to be?

Oh crap, I’ve thought outside the whole marketing bollocks box, am I going to die?

    Probably still isnt legal.
Judge was stating that if something like this happens and the road is busy then you wont get a fine for riding on the pavement. Whereas under normal conditions if no one falls and gets hurt then your in the wrong.

I will report back after a ride tomorrow regarding the finish.

Cant see why it wouldn’t, using a bit of car polish on it every time you wash the bike should keep it tip top.

Slime tubes work but after a few punctures they stick to your tyres and dont are a sod to get off if you change your tyres. That or they throw slime out of the valve when you let the air out.

The Schwalbe puncture protected tyres work reasonably well but they aint light.

WTB normally send some out without a problem.

Next time you order from chain reaction send them an email before asking for stickers and put it in the notes of your order. They send quite a few.

Superstar also send out a few.

+1 to everyone above(sorry my phone thought I meant about)

The only way you are going to get better value for money is to scour ebay for a pair of higher model spds, but with a spelling mistake in the title.

Thats what I did. I noticed a pair of M545(alloy pop up platform) on ebay that were 1 ride old. The seller had spelt pedals “peddles”. Cost me about £17 posted when I had won them, I think they were 69.99 in Evans the other week. I have had M520’s on my bike for about a year and a half.In my opinion the M545 blow them out of the water, the platform makes the pedal much more stable under foot and inspires confidence.
So it might be worth a look on ebay.

Just don’t go to the pub with both of them. CG would be shagging your bird round the back while Fabien bored you silly with tales of his latest “technically challenging” adventure on the race circuit.

Better than getting annoyed with Sam Hills accent.

At least French accents are a little less grating.

I’d rather with Tracey than Sam, Rob or Steve, whatever the surnames.

I would rather hang out with Cedric Gracia or Fabien Barrel.

Photo above, surely that’s not real. Roadies would have shot him for wearing baggies and having hairy legs. Hes also running flats and 5-10’s on a road bike..

Had the same problem once, Resorted to a vice and a hacksaw to cut down the crank at the side of the BB axle, would not budge with a hammer. Was a cheap crank, luckily.
