Took it a step too far when out on a first date before, walking along and a bike goes past at which point I explained to the poor woman how I knew what rear hub it had due to the sound (Hope). Never did see her again.

Have done this my girlfriend, we were sat at a bus stop and about 100 metres away down the road there was someone on a bike so I said “that’s a carrera” and sure enough it was. She was like how did you know that, it had white wheels and black frame(common Carrera scheme) with a rider who looked like he would only buy from halfrauds..

Manitou damping oil is standard 5wt fork/shock oil in most of their forks AFAIK.

Just another quick question, I have this route.

Without the pink bit, I have just read this pink bit is a decent bit to add, it also says on the same forum that its better ridden the other way round to the MBR route.

Can anyone confirm that its better the other way?

Multi tool, 1 tube, tyre levers, puncture repair kit , small pair of pliers, phone.

First aid kit and Food if I take the Camelback.

Never bothered taking chain splitters or links out on a ride, never snapped a chain on a ride though…

When I go to the Lakes next year I’ll probably take maps, chain splitter, cables and pads on the rides as its a much longer distance to travel with a snapped chain etc whereas at Dalby and Gisburn your never huge distances from the car/accommodation.

After a little research I have decided to stop in the Ullswater area. Not sure which end of the lake yet.

Has anyone got any route maps for around Ullswater?
I have a route map for High Street.

I’ve just pulled out a few MBR route maps.

I am going to look through my Singletrack magazines soon as I know their route maps are normally on the web, somewhere.

If anyone wants to link me their routes go ahead.

The thing with doing your own maintenance and repairs is that you absolutely, 100%, know its been done properly.

    This I agree with.
    I’m letter A.

Seriously go on tell me that Park Hex key set can go something the others can’t for ~double the money…

Them Bondhus allen keys are some of the best too.

Lifetime warranty, they say you they’re gorilla proof.
Mind you I snapped a 15 year old 4mm Bondhus allen key, not sure if they have a lifetime warranty back then though.

A good set of sharp pliers also suffice.

Would it be brash of me to say I have 24? At least I think that’s how many there are. One loses count after a while…

Remove 23 of them, add some clown wheels to the mix and then your a common STW’er.

What I’m trying to get at, everything that SS sells isn’t junk, but yes their customer service does “occasionally” suck!

And rutland dont have the same issue?

take a look at some of their negative ebay feedback..

    Poor customer service, rude…

    Has that got snapped spokes?

Major issues with the wheel build there.

I mostly ride on my own, so out of who I ride with I’m the best

Me too, Haven’t really ridden with anyone recently. Well about 4 weeks back I rode with some mates who were on 160mm travel skill compensator’s at Grenoside woods on the steel city DH course. I could happily keep up with them on my 120mm steel hardtail :)

Although, not sure if that’s their lack of skill or my god like skill?

I think it’s probably their lack.

I dont understand some of the posts. I should have probably said I already have an octalink crank that uses the same size BB as the one I’ve ordered. I decided to change it because of the cheesy flex my cranks have at the moment and yes its certainley the crank arm flexing as you can see the arm bend through out its length.

I wasnt aware there was an issue with bearing life on octalink bottom brackets. I must have missed that one.

The cranks I’ve bought are £27.99 not £39.99 as some of you may have read.

What made you want to ask the STW crowd?

Singlespeed SPD sandal wearing riders will always be better than people on poncy gears seems like a decent one concidering the people your asking.

Well normally you drill something out with a drill….

Not sure what else you could use.

Not sure how you have ended up with some bolt stuck in the mech, if it sheared I would have thought you maybe have at least some bolt still outside the threaded out for you to turn.

I was thinking more Halton, Harehills, Gipton, Middleton, Burmantofts, Belle Isle…

And they are full of people out of mental homes.

    Make your decision.

    120mm seems the most popular.

Ask her if she likes pigs? as in Ragleys.

Or if she has an STD? the Cove type.

Having lived in both Seacroft and Armley I can safely say they are both sh*t holes.

    This I agree with.

Although Headingley is full of stupidents which is O.K, if you like that sort of thing.

cracked 2 of the same frames, 2nd was a warranty replacement.

Cant say it was down to bad riding, was an extremely light XC frame and I did a 1-2ft drop on it?

Ton, can I be invited to your canal side pootles?

Another vote for woody, oulton and rothwell.

Its quiet but has decent road links. M1 and M62 either end.

    I agree with kaesae.

It would only need to be on a bike for 30 seconds to break. Riding it up the street could do it.

That wouldn’t cause no marks to these hard coat rings.

IMO I dont think CRC would take it back if they thought the product had been used quite a lot before breaking as this would indicate it was fitted incorrectly or has been bashed rather than a manufacturing fault or courier damage. So clearly who ever had it before had only used it a tiny amount.

    So stiffer yes, longevity no.

Makes sense, that extra stiffness probably causes the lesser lifetime because for the axle to flex it will put a lateral force(which non-angled bearings hate) unevenly across the bearing surface which would cause wear.

standard mtb shoe sizing like shimano, go one or two euro sizes higher.

not sure why they make it a private sale, everyone they send these emails to dont want the crap they have on the private sales.

Why not keep it an open sale then all of the plebs who think they need certain products will buy the crap as no one else wants it.

Going for a weekend up there in august, So I’ve filled it out.

I’ve ridden the slab too with only one foot clipped in while hanging over the front of the bike. Sketchy!

The finish doesn’t hold up brilliantly where my shoe rubs. It leaves distinctive marks in it.

Ah well, was worth a try.
