    Great, thanks…

Mrs rkk01 picked up a 19 plate i3 yesterday – ex-BMW Corporate car. Was looking for the app that allows you to pre-heat the battery and cabin etc

On batteries, I guess they’ll be lots of different views on charge daily vs run right down and fully recharge???

Can anyone direct me to the appropriate iPhone app that works with the i3

Was looking at the i3 at a dealer at the weekend…

They had a very nice met grey one – 18 plate, REX
But the salesman reckoned £400 “road tax” as classed as hybrid and >£40000 list price.

If true, that must make the range extender version unsellable????

I’ve got a Dagger Axiom that I use in the manner you describe…

Yes, it gives a good workout on flat water 😉 and will randomly spin off course after 20 or so strong strokes – but I can easily keep up with my wife + daughter in their Tarpon tandem SOT, or with my wife if she’s in the sea kayak.

I’m 6’3 and 100ish kg so have the Axiom 9.0 – picked up on eBay when we lived in S Wales and had access to better rivers. I’ve also paddled the smaller 8.0/8.5(?), but found it too cramped.

The 9.0 fits in the back of the van and has been off on hols to Brittany for a bit of coastal / estuary exploring, as well as regular S Cornwall usage

Shocked by some of the mpg / range figures for VW T5 owners on here…!

Obviously depends on mix of roads and driving style, but I’d be cheesed off with <700 miles from a tank… and yes, £100 is about the cost for filling the van 🙁

Cheers All – more replies than I expected…!

Feels like it’s not really an option for work – price, lottery re sleep etc.

Will keep an open mind though

Pre- brexit etc, I didn’t realise the royals etc were such a big thing…?

Seems a significant part of the UK pop are still into all that stuff… Genuinely baffling

They seem ok etc, but not sure I get the whole thing, especially the faux tabloid outrage…?!

Get a grip would be my thoughts

I didn’t notice the “circle game” gesture during the show…

… but the whole family, including teenage offspring where dumbfounded by the audience make-up…

Our kids experience from school, work, college etc was that no way the audience represented the balance of views amongst their age group (audience included a lot of pro Brexit, Pro-Tory, right wing youth etc)

Given the context of a (suspected) unrepresentative audience, then a darker meaning to the gesture could well be correct

    The Tee definitely warrants a re-run 😉

Re the original Addams Family sections, I think these sections went with the “Karrimor”… and with “Root of all Evil” and “Snap”, “Crackle” and “Pop”

The Addams Family names have been re-used on the Beast, but the running order and locations are different 🙁

ETA – Pink Heifer came later 😉

I still have a soft spot for the valleys, even though I moved away last year…

Stunning scenery – mountains, forests, rivers, pretty good land access, good sense of community… Yes, there are some really skanky bits and the usual collection of wasters.

That said, most of the folks I knew / know loved the outdoors and were very proud of their “secret” local “paradise” – I could rarely be bothered to drive to a trail centre when all I really had to do was open the back gate and ride 🙂

In terms of “Valleys Sh!tholes” – most of them are honoured on here:

why bother finding out? It will make no difference to the outcome

FFS…! Because we want him to be comfortable and have whatever medical / other support that is appropriate – including suitable pain medication… and that seems to depend on what they think is wrong with you

At the mo it’s difficult to get anything stronger than paracetamol.

Once you’re really old and frail, it’s just a matter of what finally kills you, it doesn’t really matter what…

Sorry, but this is the attitude that we are pushing against… It really does matter. Watching my father die from cancer was pretty shit. The only positive was that he was able to come home, have family around and have the right medical support in place…

Once the cancer had crumbled his hip bones, any movement was agony – daily nurse visits and the morphine driver were essential.

“You’ve had it anyway – go home and wait” is not an acceptable answer in a civilised society.

weeksy – we saw this with my Dad over the summer…

As a family we know what to expect, although the “when” is an imponderable. It’s the “how” we can’t figure – and why the “how” can be so different.

    Thanks for your responses…

My post wasn’t pending or in lieu of any antagonistic conversation with the docs.

My own father passed away with cancer earlier this year. He was older and in worse condition than FIL, but as a terminal cancer patient was sent home for his final few weeks with all the kit, care and support (medical & financial) that he needed.

By contrast, FIL has been sent home with a shrug of the shoulders, no support, no palliative care plan and a view that if you need support – get yer money out!

Doesn’t seem right to me, especially if they both end up being taken by cancer.
We DO NOT WANT a biopsy, he is way too frail… but surely there must be other indicators that would give an idea one way or the other???

I’ve been watching from the sidelines on GT Sport… 🙁

Enjoyed GT4 and GT5P – put a lot of time into GT5, but ultimately it didn’t live up to my expectations (long development time, poor AI, poor physics)

GT Sport needs more “ordinary” cars for me – and offline career mode.

(I absolutely love hooning around in the tuned up Abarth 500s in Asseto Corsa on PS4)

Am very tempted to press “buy” on GT, but suspect I’d feel let down

Any other thoughts from folks who’ve tried it?

The whole pensions thing is fubar 🙁

My mother’s pension (retired teacher) is probably double what a new graduate could expect to start on, and she’s been collecting that for 20 years…!

In fairness, she has started to concede that I might have had a point when banging on about inter-generational wealth gaps for the past 5-10 years.

As for me – gradually tried to increase my contribs through my 40s, but combination of a few gaps, low affordability and fragmented pots is not encouraging 🙁

Not sure the google images results report by most recent???

Try Google News instead… been a very obvious accoutrement since the GE was called – clearly some sort of style / image guru, but very dubious symbology even if you dismiss the feldgendarmerie connotations

At home I have a la pavoni europiccola- whilst I like using it, it is a world away from a bean 2 cup.

    Any good?

I have always been tempted by these (or the slightly dearer version with the pressure gauge)

It’s an Asetek water cpu cooler and 240 x 120 rad from OCUK.

Top of case, far side panel (i.e. below mobo), or separate freestanding external (well on a support) seem like the current options…

… Or a new case and earache

    rkk01

Hhmm, was trying to avoid replacing the case…

New components in old case = old computer
New components in new case = “where did you get the money to buy a new computer”

UK is a signatory to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child UNCRC – which states child up to 18…

But various UK National law enacts specific lower age thresholds, some of which seem to make more logical sense than others – sex, marriage, working, taxes, armed forces etc. From what I remember, UK was out of step with UN over child soldiers, as we have U18s in the military (this might have been fixed now)

Post 16 we haven’t needed to sign consent forms etc for activities / applications. Just seems this is a really difficult age group to know where you stand

All the facts are out there, apart from Govt docs that won’t be released for decades. If there’s evidence good enough to get a conviction do that, if there’s not an inquiry won’t find anything new.

    Incorrect.

My understanding is that an inquiry would have access to the unreleased government documents…

So, the best “no inquiry” defense is to release the files that currently have an 80 year release date

Timely thread. I generally refused PPI on any loans, but have been informed that many credit card companies include an amount for PPI within the minimum payment – with or without the card holders knowledge or consent…

Have often thought about pursuing a claim, but have never had the time / necessary info / trust in claims companies.

    Will give it a go

I know one policeman at this – he was delighted to be given the chance to crack a few miners heads. He went in with that attitude.

    Same here…

And that acquaintance was bussed in from S Wales to S Yorks.

This is why an inquiry is needed. On the police side, Orgreave was a meticulously planned operation with pre-approved political sign off (and direct financial contribution from No. 10 for mounted and dog support, against the wishes of S Yorks police).

The officer I mentioned rose to a high position in the police before retiring – many will have similarly made senior rank. I’m not an advocate of a punitive witch hunt within the serving police, they were following orders. It’s the deployments made, organisation, tactics and orders given and political involvement / strategy that requires an inquiry…

    Why?

Because if we ever have the need to deploy a militia style force on UK streets in the future, we should expect that previous lessons had been learnt and that the subsequent analysis is open, clear and defensible. Orgreave is none of these
