I’ve tried the Blood, Remedy and Nomad. The Blood is great fun, really slack and fantastic downhill. It climbs better than you’d think, too. Didn’t really notice the lack of travel at the back. Th Nomad is predictably awesome, but the Remedy is pretty much as good, but the whole bike costs as much as the Nomad frame.

Make of my incoherent ramblings what you will.

Apparently he wants to be recycled as carrier bags. So he’ll still be white, plastic and a hazard to children.

I’ve got a 5.5.1. It’s pretty good fun on descents, but it’s really tricky to get it set up to climb well. I’ve just replaced the RP2 with an RP23 and it makes a huge difference. If it was my money though, having tried a Trek Remedy, I’d be looking for a 2nd hand one of those.

Alright Pete? Give us a shout if you fancy getting out for a ride sometime, and leave you number this time.

I quite fancied one of these, but having read this thread I’ve kind of swung back to a Handjob. Seems that something lighter and quicker is a better complement to my full suss.

Nice on Edd, saves me buying one and drawing it up.

Thanks for the replies. I was beginning to get a bit paranoid and think that I should have left it alone, but if I’d reduced someone’s wife to tears I would be expecting some sort of comeback.

    I’ve got a Meta 5. Buy a Trek Remedy.

One of the Boardman hybrids would fit the bill. Supposed to be good in their own right, or a cheap way to get a high spec RR.

Just got a Giro Hex to replace an Animas. Cheaper, fits better, looks better. I kinda like it.

Yep, just replace the bearings and you should be fime.

5’7″, 30″ inside leg, small Meta 5 (with Lyriks), no problemo.

    High Rollers.

If you use Nevegals you will die.

Or at least get a nasty graze.

First of all, Egon Schiele was brilliant as an artist. Total scumbag child molester, though. Tracey Emin isn’t thought provoking. You can see the same stuff in any provincial gallery, but the fact that she’s ‘famous’ raises expectations and then the paucity of the work is what creates the hysteria. If I saw it without knowing it was Emin I would probably give it no more than a cursory glance.

She’s a publicist rather than an artist.

That’s a lot of recommendations. Not ridden many of them, but I have recently tried a Trek Remedy and found it superior to my Meta 5 in every way. Light, climbs well and I descended faster than I’ve ever done in my life (which is a leisurely pace for anyone else). I’m struggling to justify a Nomad over the Trek and I’ve always wanted a Nomad.

I’ve got the RS Lyriks on my Meta and they’re really good. S’up to your mate. I really, really wanted to like the Nomad more than the Remedy because I’m a snob, but for a new bike as capable as the Remedy is it’s a total steal.

I rode all of them except the Intense a few weeks back at a demo day. I know someone who had a 5.5 and found the rear end a bit flexy, but never having tried one I can’t say how true that is. The Nomad is a fantastic bike and will ride pretty much anything. It also jumps fairly well. It was the 2009 one that I rode and I’ve seen one or two on EBay for around £1200, but by the time you built it up you’re probably cheaper with a Remedy 7. The Remedy was fantastic fun, very light, very quick and nearly as capable as the Nomad. If it was my money, that’s what I’d get. I didn’t really like the LaPierre, found it a bit nervous, but enough other folk liked it that I suspect it’s just me. If he’s going to the World Cup at Fort William he can demo the Trek and the Nomad there.

You’re probably right about just giving him money and lettign him pick it. Just seems like I haven’t made much of an effort, though.

He’s been playing for about 20 odd years, but mostly electric/double bass. I don’t think he has any accoustics. And he’s not buying, I am.

An Ibis Mojo, or maybe that Scott Genius that weighs 3 ounces. I’d never but either, but it’d be nice to see whether the fuss is justified. Saying that, I had a go on a Hummer a couple of weeks ago and really wish I hadn’t now ‘cos I want one.

Man, you’re all dorks! Commencal was cool, but isn’t any more (have you seen the Meta 6?). Anything by Santa Cruz or NS is, regardless of how it rides. Marin is now, but only bikes from the last 2 years. Whyte is too prissy and will never be cool. Cotic were, but are losing it a bit now. The Dialled Alpine is the coolest hardtail; the Tweak ones could have been, but are a bit too agricultural looking to be cool (again, regardless of how they ride). Anything carbon isn’t cool. Same for Trek or Specialized (except the Pitch). Again, regardless of how they ride. If you really need to be cool, Chameleon or Nomad.
In case you’re wondering, I have a Commencal.

    “Sighs”
A pathetic creature who’s only aim in life is to make those pretier than itself love it.

It’s “precious” is fame and it craves the acceptance of those better than itself.

I’m a trifle squiffy and even I can do abstract concepts.

I blame the parents. No, really you can only put so much on the shoulders of the teachers and then you have to accept that they weren’t that bright to start with.
