I've found that trying something new is a good way to get your motivation back. Last year I swam a lot (hadn't done it for years). This year I've being going to do circuit training at a boxing gym. Once I get into something new I find my motivation for riding and everything else increases as I start to feel fitter.

I agree the Satnav battery life isn't great but you can buy piggyback battery packs to extend it. I use it as a back up for navigation rather than a on the bars route guide. If you get a bit lost or want to explore a new track you can zoom in out and scroll from your current location to see where trails might lead.

Some of the footpath surfacing in Rivelin is terrible. One of my favorite walks down a narrow footpath that heads into the woods on the bend at the bottom of lodge lane has been turned from a 1ft wide ribbon to a 5ft wide brick rubble based smooth track. I've no idea why I've never seen another soul in those woods whenever I walk through.

Buy a navigo sat nav from ebuyer for about £45, hack it to get the Windows CE operating system and then install MM Pocket PC to it. I've got all the web links and instructions etc at home from when I did it last year.

Let us know how you get on. I've been looking at the dates later in the year.

Anyone who likes this bike might be interested in my Mk1 Morning Glory frame currently for sale in the classifieds. Not as shiny as this one but could be stripped back and polished up easily enough and comes with a unfitted metal head badge too.

Find some people you have fun riding with and just enjoy being out on your bike. Also start to enjoy crashing, bailing etc. It is part of the fun and once you soon realise failure isn't that bad you get back on and have another go far more readily.

If you do a search there is a big thread about it on here. Prices and specs included. Apparently there is a full custom option on it.

    Looks good to me.

Make sure you ride porcupine rim as well while you are there. You should be able to get a lift to the start of the ride on one of the bike shop shuttles. That route is one very memorable ride!

Thanks for the route Lowey – we had a good but very wet ride. We ended up starting and staying at the hawkswick campsite that Ton recommended. First half of the ride was great especially the descent down to Settle, the return leg wasn't bad but felt like a lot of climbing without any really fun downs.

Finished the weekend off with a trip to Guisburn on Sunday morning. The car park was very busy and the trails were in condition considering the use they must be getting judging by the traffic from here.

Search on CRC for "Motogrip" it is a little rubber ring that you squeeze to increase forearm strength. I think they were designed for Moto enduro riders

I came close to offering you £500 for it but spent far too long agonising over it. If it makes you feel any better I would have ridden it myself or sold it on for what I paid

I got a smart shoe bargain when I found a pair of Van Bommels (very posh Dutch Cobblers) for £50 when usual retail is £200 :-).

I've got it very similar to Stumpy. seemed to come on after a crash where I landed on my right hip but only really flares up from running. After 2 years of physio etc I can manage it through stretching and other exercises but if I don't do them for a week it comes back.

I start week 5 tomorrow – from reading the posts above I think it will take more than the week to get through it though. So far I've noticed a firming of the upper body – sadly not had a chance to ride recently to no idea if it will help with that.

I'd be up for the occasional ride, but due to patios, kids and family meals it wouldn't be every weekend :D. In fact evenings are probably best for me! Let me know if you fancy an evening ride from Sheffield.
