This thread has been really useful for me as I’m just starting out on the dream of a california. Our needs are a bit different as we have 3 kids to run around day today and fit in for camping trips. The Beach is the obvious option and we should all squeeze in for the odd night while they are small. Probably need to get a drive away tent for longer trips to keep things comfortable.

It is dangerous drawing up an options list as the price gets out of control very quickly :D.

Looks good. Can anyone suggest a suitable cadence and speed sensor to get up and running with this?

I was in a similar position a couple of years ago and like you spent some time thinking overthe decision. One bit of internet searching turned up a stat that something over 50% of people who withdrew a resigniation to stay in job after being offered more money left the business within 6 months. This seems to reflect the advice above that if you only stay for the money the reasons why you wanted to leave will still be there and something changes in the employee/employer relationship.

Whatever you choose – best of luck.

If you get a proper hot day and the by family you mean youngish kids…we stopped by a ford near Tissington for the afternoon a few weeks ago. The kids went in paddling and looking for fish (they even caught a few) and they loved it when cars came through and splashed them. There is space to park up and have a picnic too.

I’ll join in with something useful (hopefully) to add. We found some kids headphones with built on volume limit so you keep them happy with a film and still listen to what you want up front.

Thanks – that Raspberry Pi project does look good and if I had the spare time I’d give it a go. In fact I may go for a basic system now and work on that as a furture upgrade 🙂

Can’t comment on the coaching as I’m another prospective customer. I can say that I had some correspondence with JJ about the courses he offers and if the coaching matches the customer service it should be great. He answered loads of my questions in detail and followed up with plenty of his own about my riding and goals. I’ve put of doing a session until I get back to fitness and regular riding later in the year. I’d be interested to hear from anyone who has been along to the sessions earlier this year.

I’ve just started a garden rejig and am planning to put some posts in for a slackline. I quickly realised my plan to use the 2 brick garden walls was not a good idea.

Revised plan is similar to OP but also fixing the posts to the walls for extra bracing. I wasnt sure on depth but dont fancy trying to get down 5ft!

Has anyone tried this who advise on depth to sink posts?

I had similar experience with a mondeo and at first thought it was the clutch but turned out to be a split in the pipe between the turbo and egr. Engine was losing boost so felt sluggish in the rev range when the turbo would usually kick in. Revs
going up but without the usual kick in performance. Worth checking as much cheaper than a clutch.

You can use the US youtube app by opening a second PSN login with a US address. Works great you can control it from your smart phone (browse on your smartphone and it appears on your TV – magic! :D)

Faced the same issue last year. I’ve managed to fit a new born a 3 yr old and a 5 yr old in the back of my Mondeo by using slim seats. It is a hassle getting to the buckles but okay for the odd journey. The other half swapped her Focus in for a Toyota Verso which has 3 independant seats in the 2nd row and 2 fold down ones in the boot. When it is time to change the Mondeo I’ll be looking at a Galaxy/Alhambra or T5 for the extra space as the kids get bigger.

    Good luck!

Can anyone recommend a wireless thermostat which also has Wi-fi? Currently just have a timer wired to the boiler in the airing cupboard so it is either on or off. I’d rather have a thermostat switching it on/off when required but don’t want to be running wires to a fixed mount.

That Nest seems to be the ideal but as it is US only not an option at the moment.

The other half broke ours a few weeks ago. She got a bit upset when she googled prices for screen repairs. Got a replacement from ebay for £40 and found a you tube video with step by step instructions – even I managed it.

Got distracted by work last night, so have only just checked back in on this thread. This place never lets you down, thanks for all the links and suggestions. I’m sure to find something there that will fit the bill.

cheers vortex, the housing is a little different but the principle should be the same. I”ll have a look inside the lamp unit and start planning.

Those Arch EXs look spot on especially if I can reuse the spokes. I’ll do a bit of reading tonight and see if I can check on the DT calculator to confirm things.

I think I know where I can borrow a jig, so if all goes well the first exciting installment of wheel building live will be up early next week. 😀

Google along to TechRadar. They do a rolling top 20 smart phone listing with full in depth reviews of them all. Last time I looked they ranked it:

    Galaxy S3
    HTC One-x
    Iphone 5

They also have info on release dates and spec for new phones so you can decide to wait for the next even better offering 😀

Ohhh… I need some new pants, I may make it along to cheer you up towards the end of your shift.

PS – perhaps you could have a look at architecture again and specialise in shed design – seems to be a booming market (on here at least).

I ride 32:18 in the Peaks (Sheffield side) and I still struggle up most hills, 32:16 would be a step to far for me. It is good fun and back when I had more miles under my belt could do a 5/6 hour ride, now it is saved for shorter 1-2 hour evning and winter rides.

Seems new kids seat could be viable option. Any recommendations for slimline but safe child seats then?

Currently have a 5 year old and a 3 year old in Britax 123 seats, admittidly these are a bit bulky due to the side proteaction they offer. When these are fitted you can squeeze a skinny adult in between as long as they are happy to sit with their arms up on the seat backs for the journey. with slimmer child seats the baby seat should fit, and the extra stuff should be accomodated in a giant roof box.

True Frank – currently on long journeys there is usually a bag in the gap between their kids seats to keep arms and legs apart.

That Multi mac looks an interesting idea, have you actually used one Glupton?

It was much easier back then, I remember rolling around in the back of my dads Cortina fighting with my sisters. No kids seat to take up the space back then. Also enjoyed the chance to ride in the boot when my Grandad was coming out for the day with us, just had to duck if dad spotted the police. 🙂

Thanks, I think Range Rovers, Discovery and XC90 may be out of my budget especially with fuel and other running costs. I’ll have a look at the Hyundai and the S-max.

MLC, 7 seats will be useful to be able to carry extra family and friends. And a roof box is also already on the shopping list. Good point about narrower car seats, I may take a trip to Halfords and try a few variations out.

jfletch, I just used a painter in Sheffield who turned up on time to do a quote, used an iPad to jot down details of the job and mailed the quote through. He sent texts regularly while the job was going on, always arrived early. Might be the man for you?

worth knowing the Roses come on just after 9, so if you don’t fancy the warm up acts or want a spot near the front there is no need get in early. queue for drinks takes ages in there too.

agree with wellies, it was pretty slimy underfoot.

Banana and spinich smoothie made with water. Add some nuts/other fruit/honey to add variety, oats if I’m training.

Either that or some egg based treat, omlette (spinich, chorizo), poached, scrambled with some meaty goodness for added flavour etc
