I worked on the Tornado commercial team in the late 1990s, I remember trying to source some Motorola 8086 chipsets for the terrain following system on some legacy fleet which hadn’t had mid life update and had exceeded the spares plan.
This Dominic Cummings Blogpost from 2015 foretells the situation we are currently in and how we got here. It seems to me that the only way out is to bin the lot.
I needed a resin zero-scarf nozzle for a Harrier, and ended up with two Harrier kits in a special boxing as it was cheaper. I also need to stop finding old aviation memorabilia in my loft and buying kits to go with it , but I did get a good deal on the Hasegawa Phantom FG.1 kit and I did get to try an airbrush I fancy. Could be expensive.
I’ll be there. Thinking of getting a new compressor and airbrush if there’s any good deals. I’ll wear my Orange (bikes) hoodie. Say hi! Looking for some decals and resin bits too.
They also had some 1:144 Revell MiG-29 & 31s for £1.99. It reminded me of the LS Buy By Coin range in the 1980s.
If anyone is at Bolton next Sunday they can have one of mine for a fiver, I probably won’t build 2 but couldn’t resist the bargain!
Just picked up 2 Revell 1/48 F-105D T-Stick II kits from Home Bargains for £4.99 each. They appear to be the old Monogram moulds but I’ve always had a soft spot for the Thud and it’s a nice kit. Worth a look (also 1kg of winegums for £1.99)
I’m going to start taking a shit in my neighbours garden, sleeping under cars and giving people looks of utter disdain. That’s right, I’m going to identify as a cat.
That’s fine, but society reserves the right to cut off your nuts and put a chip in you .
Tremendous! I love how understated it all is. From the days when quiet competence was seen as something to aspire to. It’s also interesting how low the academic level of some of the students was on leaving school, where as these days if you don’t have a string of 9s/A*s you are clearly unfit for anything.
The Roland Beaumont books are good, WW2 Hurricane pilot, went on to help develop the Typhoon and Tempest, the tested the Canberra, Lightning and TSR.2. Testing Years is the one I’ve got. You’re welcome to borrow it as I think you’re fairly close.
I’ll never beat my uncle who got a limited miles quote on a 70s VW camper a few years ago. The initial quote was £56, which he was more than happy with and went for, there was then a pause on the other end of the phone as the agent set it up, and he was then told that for signing up straight away he got £60 cash back.
