This was the guy who took my bikes from Harle Syke way 18 months ago, and has a lot of form. I think I was targeted. Mine turned up on gumtree in Macclesfield. Hope they get whoever it was.
+1 on the M61/M6/A685/A66 route, or if you want a scenic route, come off the M6 earlier and take the A684 and have fish and chips in Hawes. That may be caravan hell on a nice Friday in June though, the A66 has some dual- carriageway sections.
I just got some bulkhead corner panels from YRM Landrover which have all the holes pre cut and seem a good fit when offered up, I’ll let you know how they go on. £15 a pair.
We got married at The Tempest Arms in Elslack near Skipton. Nice pub, great food and get one of the two rooms with hot-tubs on the belcony by the river.
+1 on the Manitou. I had (still have the frame) the single shock model after that one with the linkage shock. It was a really supple ride with an excellent geometry, it was just the shock and damping technology that was lacking at the time. That and a 60mm fork mated to the 100mm back end. I updated with a Pace downhill fork with a huge 75mm travel!
If you’ve been doing lots of short journeys, get out on the motorway for an hour for a blast, keep the revs higher than normal (don’t use top gear) and see if that clear the filter. Modern diesels do need long runs fairly regularly. The DPF works by heating up to clear deposits and can’t do that on a short trip, the light is to warn you but doesn’t mean it’s knackered.
Not sure about the auto-parts belt but I know it’s a fixie hub with a freewheeling bottom-bracket. They are also gorgeous. It’s bad impulse buying multiple bikes for yourself, but doing it for your kids takes it to a new level!
Got a Vango Airbeam and they are great in high winds. Had a minor problem with a slow leak in one beam which was replaced by the shop with no quibbles. Put it up in the dark, 2nd time out in 15mins for an 8 man tent. The inflatable tents tend to have a higher hydrostatic heat (5000mm v. 3/4000mm) than equivalent conventional tents in most ranges, possibly to justify the higher prices. The packed tent is big, but it helped justify buying a Landy to the wife so no complaints there
There’s one of the £180 Reverbs going back to Wiggle tomorrow, 31.6 dia, 420mm length 125mm drop. I needed a have a 30.9 on the way as I’m stupid. If anyone wants it for cost and postage e-mail me.
Had a vango family tent . Took 15 min from engine off to tent up in the dark on the second time of erecting the tent including ground footprint and carpets. The inflatable mattress took longer. We did have a leaky beam which was replaced after the holiday but we could live with it for a week. Great in high winds. It just takes more space than a normal tent packed. Like it.
Disgraceful! I’m sure when Repack Rider and the others started riding in Marin county all those years ago none of them would dream that it would come to such a thing!
I agree about the inner tubes. The bike equivalent of dog poo bags on trees.
Got the sip ones on my commuter and love them. I wanted narrower grips and no retaining ring on the outside. Very comfortable and will be getting them on the main bike as well.
