I am being very honest and not having a go at Mojo even though I don’t agree with there policies.

I thought I was doing right in popping the seals/dropping the legs and re-lubing the forks 8 times in 13 months which is about right as I don’t use the bike much in winter as I use my Hardtail more.

But according to Mojo that the seals themselves are only warranted for 90 days. So unless you are servicing the fork at least every 15 hours riding (more if the ground is muddy – so I take that to mean every ride) and replacing the seals themselves every 3 months at least (£25 a go plus postage) – so 4 times a year. Then stanchion wear is not doable under warranty.

I asked how do you know when to replace the seals, and was told that is why Fox use coloured oil so you know when to change parts. But every time I have dropped the legs or popped the seals to clean the foam rings, it has still been blue in colour as oil remains and there is no sign of lots of dirt. So I have presumed the seals are fine, I think I was right in thinking this.

I was told that you are buying a premium product and quote ‘if you buy a Ford you would expect them to run 20,000 miles between service intervals, but if your buying a Ferrari you can expect them to need servicing every 3000 miles, cheap forks will continue to work with less servicing’.

I think this is ridiculous and I got quite annoyed on the phone yesterday (but I have calmed down now). Servicing them 8 times in 13 months is way, way, way more than any other fork I’ve ever owned. I have run multiple Rockshox and Marzoc forks for 4+ years with no stanchion wear.

But they will not warranty them so I am getting on with things – want to continue to use the forks as they still work very well. I will continue to drop the legs. As there is no way I’m going to spend £300+ and then over £100 a year in new seals for it to be pot luck if it happens again. I won’t buy Fox again.

I just want to know how long I will get out of the forks now they are marked? As they do and always have worked very well and I want to continue to enjoy using them.

Thanks for the advice so far and any other experiences will be welcomed.

Having said that, if I could justify the cash, I'd have a CDDB with Ti spring on my Blut LTc in a flash. Soooo expensive though.

Thats the funniest thing i've heard all day – when you've spent £2400 on a frame………………

    How much were you thinking?

I'd be an interested guinea pig if the price was right.

cheers for the comments so far.

The bathtub floor is great but in very wet or when there is a lot of moisture in the air eg very low cloud. would like a bit more protection.

The adventure medical bivi looks spot on but will moisture be a problem in a bivi if your head is not in the bag.

I used to have condensation form in the my old gore tex bag but only when fully sealed up.

Just found these, I think turned upside down with a modified additional top zip added like the epic ones and it will be perfect. Same size and length as the Epic Medium Gas Tank

Could be a winner – £12.59 + a couple of quid for two zips and a bit of velcro

That bag looks good Nick same with the price, but think i'd like something longer as i think my camera alone would fill that.

It would be good for endurance races though…

There is an excellent article on the bikepacking web site about making your own frame bag.

Suppose the gas tank could be made in the same way. Its the seat packs that look a more complex design.

Dont mind the epic designs prices as its niche and custom its the postage that makes it too pricey for me. I'll see how make your own goes.

    Now fabric and design…….

I had heard the samsung were good for battery life as thats massively important.

Not fussed about optical drive as i have every film converted to mp4. So more bothered that the netbook has enough power to show full screen video.

Whats the difference between the samsung models nc10, n130 etc.

Well if enough people off here go to buy or sell.

There will be lots of shiny mountain bike bits for you to drool over and buy and lots of peoples secondhand parts will be sold and go to a home that where they will be used and cherished.

    Steve.

I have a pair of nearly new (not a mark) hope pro 2 hubs on Sunn Rhyno lite 24 inch rims for sale.

They are about the lightest build you can get on 24s without going silly

Bought for a dirt jump bike but decided to stick with 26s.

Mail me if your interested and i'll get you more info and pics.

Quite like a the look of the Wah Wah copies in Mag – nice shape and light. Shame they have horrid branding all over them.

I meant it is also built by Lynskey like the Ti456, rather than copied and built by another frame builder, i.e. they have taken Brant's basic design and tweaked it and another manufacturer is selling under its own name.

Some people are so pedantic..

    cheers everybody.

Mick. It doesnt have to be a rock n roll but i didnt know there was an alturnative. Due to limited space in the caddy it def needs to be convertable.

As long as we a are not carrying passengers and permantly remove the rear seats. If the bed we put in is removable it will not effect the mot/insurance then?

We are only going to be sleeping in it occasionaly and use it more as a living area with table, seats etc and to make sure the bikes are locked away at night. Most of the time we'll sleep in a tent.but if the weather craps out we'll have another option.

    Thanks for the help.

Will def be a Caddy Maxi as we need it to fit in the garage as it will only be used on weekend trips away. They are classed as a car so full mph on A roads too.

Price arent to bad as they are coming down closer to the 10k mark now they've been around over a year.

Like i say the rear seat/bed will NEVER be used for the transporting of passengers. Does this make a difference classification with MOT and insurance?

There is a company called Wellhouse Lesuire who convert Caddy's and can provide a custom make bed for £700 furnished, but this seems steep compared to the frame only onptions and do the rest ourselves.

As far as carpets etc I was going to buy a removable bath tub molded rubber floor hold the bikes.

    Any more advice welcome

    sweet ride bumhands.

Cant decide between 26 or 24 though, i've got both sizes in hope pro 2s. The 24s were a super cheap impulse buy off ebay. So just need to buy the frame and i'll have all the kit to build one up.

Do fancy 24 but thinking it might be hard to adjust to the different wheel size everytime i pie the bike.

Also do anybody make a jump frame with a long top tube (23 inch plus) for a reasonable amount of cash (i know curtis you can get custom but to much money)
, i am pretty lanky and they all seem to have very short TT esp if i'm putting a 50mm stem on.

    Any ideas?

just bought and took back an Osprey Talon 22 within a 2 hours!
Great back system and lovely bag but too small for my bivi kit.only by about 2 litres as well all the bivi kit fitted but no room for the biking gear. D'oh!

Could have gone for the 33, but loads bigger and £75 (the 22 was bad enough at £60). Makes the Omm bags look cheaper and a lot lighter too.

    Decisions, decisions ……

Thank Steve. How easy are the meths can stoves to make- i've seen the article on outdoormagic and they look pretty cool?

Just bought and took back an Osprey Talon 22 bag, just a tad to small. All the kit fitted in nicely but no room for bike related bits.so still on the look out for a new bag – shame as the back system felt great. Not sure if i want the 33l version esp when you compare the weight to an Omm bag.

Any other views on tarp ground sheets?

    Rik

Well nowhere cheaper than outside for the Osprey Talon 22. might be spending £60 tomorrow then!

Still a lot more than the Alpkit Gourdon which was the other consideration!

How do people find meths stoves in day to day use compared to a pocket rocket or the like?

I've got a Jetboil free a few years ago but I have never been that impressed (other than a very expensive brew maker). How do you get on with yours Epicsteve?? Do you use it for more than just boiling water as for that it seems heavy as you dont really need the 'super efficiency if your only out for 1 or 2 nights?

That groundsheet looks ideal epicsteve – do you know how much it weighs?

Think I may have found a bag now – Osprey Talon 22 – looks spot on. Just need to find one cheap now.

Just tried on a Osprey Talon 22 in Outside. Seems ideal and looks bigger than the 22 suggests (esp next to a Invo8 22) as quite wide at the base.

So comfy with a proper back system and different back sizes too. Only a little bit heavier – but £60. Need to try and find on cheaper!!!

Think it might be the one.

Will have a look at Decathalon on the way back from the Peak today. Going to have a butchers in Outside too see what if anything the pricier models offer.

    Some good kit ideas.

Wondering if a superlight ground sheet or bivi bag is the way to go under a tarp.

Was thinking a 2m roll of this: point north fabric As it wide enough for 2 people.

Bivi bags always seem so heavy esp. if your carrying a tarp

    My kit so far:

Bag – not got yet (see other posts)- maybe Alpkit Gourdon 30???

    Snowpeak Ti Pot
    Snowpeak Ti Spork
    Snowpeak Ti Stove

    Cut down foam mat
    Rab Quantum Top Bag
Hilleberg Tarp 10UL (still new and needs using)
Groundsheet – (need to source a lightweight one – sub 100g but not sure what yet??)

Rab Photon Jacket (to supplement the superlight sleeping bag)
    Merino hat
    Buffalo Gloves

    Hipflask – with Aberlour A'bunadh

    Petzel Tikka or Hope 4led

    Cheers guys for the responses.

Anybody tried the larger 30 litre one on the bike down steep stuff. Will be bivi'ing in the Peak/Lakes so big, steep and rocky. Done a list of kit and reckon i can get it down to 6ish Kg with water.
