Got mine yesterday. Free next day courier.

Put it up in the lounge last night as it was pouring it down outside. Surpurb bit of kit and amazed at how light it is. Looking forward to giving it a test this weekend.

Bargain and they've sold out now

Excellent advice – I've just booked 3 nights in that campsite looks ace.

Thinking a boat trip to Ramsay might be on the cards too, just got to hope for some nice weather.

Might just take the bikes and ride a trail centre on the way down and on the way back and walk and climb while actually in Pembroke itself. Off to buy a map at dinner.

    Recommendation for the good bits?

Any recommendations for a good campsite near to the good bits??

Thinking nice basic small campsite – tap, toilet and field type rather than the caravan mega sites.

It should last a long time. As it's made with very expensive (although I got a cheap end of roll off cut) special cordura that contains Kevlar strands – it's supposedly what they make firemans suits from. Everything has been double or triple stitched with rot proof thread.

    It's a proper job – for sure.

Not getting any thing through anymore. At 9.30am this morning it was fine and updated when I went onto the mail icon. Now everytime I try and connect it tells me my password or user is wrong and won't go any further – I know these are def correct. when I try and verify on mail settings it tells me the pop3 password is incorrect- again i know my password is right.

Anybody own one of the JVC ones?

As like i say they seem quite a bit cheaper than the others (last years model), got the brochure and they look good.

Would any body else who has had experience of going from:

Good air shock (rp23) to normal coil shock (fox dh4/5 etc) to CCDB

As most people who have commented seem to have gone (or want to go) from air to ccdb and thats quite a jump.

Its covered under car insurance not van, as its technically a car. Dont think that will matter though – Hopefully

Sorry tandem – i meant to say the futon would not be permanently fixed in the vehicle but would secure.

Tom- thats what i thought, but dont want to give the insurance companies wriggle room. Thats why i told them about the seat removal

If you've got cash to splash then a Chromag Sikura is the one. Amazing geometry and zing from a sub 4lb steel frame.

what would you call the riding in Les Arcs?

When you are using an extensive lift system, and spend all day coming downhill in a full face helmet on runs in the forest and on ski runs.

Just because your on a trail bike rather than a dh bike. I would say that you are doing a downhill holiday.

Do people think otherwise. I would of thought the insurance companies would think its downhill if you tried to claim.

The south buxton loop in the VG book starting from Longnor – most of the ride is pleasant but the Hollingsclough descents in it at the end are very good! def make an trip out to do them!

we went to the Alps fir the first time last year (all dh no xc) so my GF got a 661 evolution in small.
Just try a load on first before you buy. I know she was really pleased to have a proper full face on rather than the usual xc helmet!

    Thanks for all the advice.

All seems rather complex re-programming the phone.

Orange will provide an unlock code for £20. The phone unlocking shops will also unlock the phone, but neither will commit to if that software/ROM problems will be fixed this way.

    Arghh this seems complex

So i'm told its locked to orange and its an orange branded phone rather than just generic.(orange logo on the rear of the phone)

On ties forums it states that orange htc phones use non standard unlock codes to due to software changes

    Thanks,

I'll be replacing them myself (done the old XC Ti hub a few times).

I presumed it was the bearings just was surprised they have gone so soon (1 year) as the XC Ti hub ran fine for over 4 years.

As I will be doing it myself, are any of the bearing more prone to going?

we toured last year from oban-barra-uist-harris-lewis

I would highly recommend you circle barra, go through uist and def go to harris – it was the most beautiful of all the islands. Lewis was nice but not as remote feeling.

We mainly stayed in the youth hostels but also had some memorable wild camping on beaches.

We can't wait to go back again! Just rememeber light & fast is the key (plus take windproofs!)

BIGMAN – Thinking about your suggestions above, that seems quite a big shift in the compression and rebound settings. What effect are you going for with that adjustment??

Looking forward to having a play with the LSC – from what it seems i should be able to have the best of both worlds

Thanks for the advice and a very interesting thread

I understand the basics of the CCDB shock and what affect each of the hi and low compression and rebound adjustments will do. I also think that the CCDB manual is an essential read to anyone who is interested in rear suspension esp. if they have only ever used air shocks.

I have made the choice to run the shock in ‘stock form’ for at least 6-8 weeks to be able to appreciate its characteristics over the old shock. So far I have been amazed at how plush the shock is and how active it is in comparison to the air shock of old. It does make a huge difference.

The pedal bob is something I have found to be very noticeably in and out of the saddle, and if I am able to get rid completely or at least reduce it considerably without effecting its small bump compliance then the shock is even more a thing of wonder.

BIGMAN – Are the two turn adjustments that you talk of from midway, I presume you mean the ‘stock’ setting?? Its something I will certainly try in a few weeks.

    Thanks

Posionspider – you talked about a Ccdb on your Orange Five and about the usual better traction , big hit etc etc but you also talked about lack of pedel bob.

Its the lack of pedel bob i'm interested in. Just would like to know what spring weight you are running for your weight?

Also what compression and rebound setting your running as it would seem that you are not running 'stock' settings. As in 'stock' the shock feels amazingly compliant over rocks and very very good on the Dhs. But due to the single pivot of the Five does bob quite a lot while climbing in the saddle.

Interested to here your settings for the shock on the Orange Five.

    Cheers

Oh, and my bikes are hung from the front wheel on hooks. So the forks are hung upside down.

I may have been unlucky with fox but i have never had this problem with other fork makes.
