Cheers guys I’ll have a look. Hmmm…. That might mean £50!! for a new softer spring. That just a bit sh1t.

Btw – I’m about 80-83kg all loaded up.

If I’m on the upper limit of the standard spring and the fork is not reaching full travel on a big downhill, then something is wrong.
esp as these forks retail for nearly £900………working just okay is not acceptable.

I was presuming as much about the towns. Mainly wild camping planed, lots of noodles packed if we can’t find a shop and if you do find a shop buy a couple of days worth?

I was surprised how regular the co-op shops cane along in the Hebrides, can I bot expect the same in the far north mainland?

TJ – No first time that far north on the mainland. Did Hebrides last year and it was amazing.

Yeah, thats the kind of advice I’m after. Cheers, keep it coming.

No probs Cy, I do understand but I have my girlfriend constantly asking why your not making one.

Thought that you might be able to do a limited run (like your xl frames) to try it out, as I thought you’d easily be able to sell 10.

Would it really need different tube dimensions? I know you could lighten off the tubes due to the lighter weight riders, but that choice a choice rather than necessaity, as the soul is plenty light enough already with that steel zing in it’s current form??

Good luck btw with the HMRC

So trail riders are catered for with the soul
Xc riders are catered for with the soul
Agressive trail/free ride/big lads are catered for with the Bfe
Now tall riders are catered for with a Soul 29er

Women – still not catered for

Come on Cy the Soul is a classic design surely there is a market for a womens 14 inch version even if it’s only a limited edition/small number release just to test the water.

There are so many women on the trails these day to be able to cater for 5 foot 3 and smaller.

I had heard that about all the contols being hidden deep within the menu on the Sony, which is def a pain as I would never use it in auto, but I had also heard that the whole menu system was getting changed in the next firmware update because of this being a problem.

Grim – that is very interesting about the wide angle lens. Do you know if either of these will be pro or standard spec lens. Micro four thirds (and four thirds) I’ve noticed seem to have a habit of releasing as wide lens as very expensive pro or near pro spec. Which puts them out of reach.

    Cheers for this spacecadet.

The main reason that I think the nex-5 pulls away from the other micro-Dslr systems is size (it really is a LOT smaller body) but even more so is the 16mm prime (24mm equiv in old money) @ f2.8. That is an awesome combo for biking shots. Esp. Seeing the size of the lens. Also has the option for 19mm equiv and fisheye add ons for not much money-not sure of the quality of these add ons but very interesting idea.

Micro four thirds will always be at a disadvantage when it comes to wide angle.

The nex-5 is no bigger than the lx3 with the 16mm lens. I was amazed with it fitted in the same case I use.

Second Stumpy with the Velbon – the best sub £100 tripod you can buy and once you have used the twist lock legs you will never want to go back to the 3 individual (so 12 in total) clip legs normally found on tripods.

I have screwed a brass hook onto the bottom of of mine to hang your camera bag onto to stabilize it even more.

    Designed to enforce short stems……

And prevent the use of the bikes by women!

    23inch top tube on a 14inch frame – your having a laugh.

ive had bikes from the 'trail' genre before and whilst great bikes they dont have sufficient skill compensation for the kind of riding i like to do.

Great riders are fast no matter what they ride.

Maybe you should have stuck with one of the bikes you used to own and just get better at riding them, rather than thinking a different bike will make you better/ride faster.

(not having a go at you or anybody else, or being petty or saying you are a bad rider, before somebody comes in with the usual STW comments)

These are black 2008 bontrager branded 240s which came on the older 6 bolt race x lite wheels before they blinged them up to the newer grey colour.

I've just looked on the DT swiss website on the 240 hub manual diagrams and the mtb and road cassette bodies seem to have different part numbers.

Before I spend the cash are we sure that they are compatible??

Did mine last night. It's transformed the speed of my 3g. A lot faster, no freezing so far and not been thrown out of any apps yet.

Salsa frame, forks and seatclamp £400

I don't think that's expensive for all that kit. What makes it expensive is if I get one will be having to buy a nice set of road disc wheels and bb7 road discs!! Rather than just a straight swop from my current road bike

    Rik

Yes but the Salsa is steel. I just could not image having a aluminum touring bike.

NW Uist – def beautiful – remember trying to hide out of the wind behind a wall and having my chocolate bar blown out of my hands!! But that road led to Bernaray hostel – again a beautiful spot with crystal blue water and white beaches.

As sproket says 'the best holiday you'll ever have'!!

Cheers for the advice 13th I'll have a look at that.

Hebrides trip – was in May so no midges and great weather, although we had unusal wind that was opposite than normal. We traveled From Oban – Barra – Uist – Harris – Lewis – Skye.

Amazing place – Harris was my fav the most beautiful empty beaches in the world on the west side and gorgeous moon scape on the east.

Anybody can do it on a bike as the mileage is very small for the scenery that you recieve in return.

    Thinking this (if it works)

    google map link

For a Scotland trip – any views?

    Rik
    Free Member

Just plugged the route into google maps at it came up at about 275 miles. Looks ideal.

mema – I know the coast roads will be beautiful but what's the roads like across the width of Scotland i.e from the Black Isle to Ullapool? Views good? Are they busy as it looks like a main A road?

    Rik

That the kind of riding I'm after. Cheers

What sort of mileage is that tour?
