2.6kg for a 4 season tent that you can store your bikes in the porch and still have enough room to sit out a storm. Heavy or still only reasonable? Your having a laugh

Just looked at my diary from last year

    2010 – 79 nights under canvas

That’s all year round Inc Christmas and New Year, Scottish winter, Alpine mountaineering

Now times that by 9 years plus a 3 month trip round Europe.

Btw Macpac – would be my second choice but ive herd quality is crap since the move from NZ

What’s your point AJ? Are you calling it heavy? There is nothing as light, for the strength, durability and space. Nothing comes close.
Expensive? Yes it is, mine was £400 9 years ago. I’d happily buy another at the new price. I agree best bit of kit I’ve ever bought!

Hilleberg nallo 2 gt – best on the market, mines 9 years old and still going strong ad sitting out any storm in comfort and with room.

That was supposed to say do not usually allow open fires.

It also enables you to have small campfires on campsite that do allow fires.

    Burn – no.
It does tend to warp slightly under extreme heat if not thick enough, but it springs back to shape when it cools naturally.
Not the easiest metal to work with or get hold of either, hence the post.

Sure there must be someone on here that will have some squirrelled away. Don’t need a huge amount.

Not exactly. You need titanium foil rather than sheet for a caldera cone….

But it is camping related, I’m building a titanium firebox for burning wood for heat/cooking but leaves ‘no trace’ to the ground.

I have a stainless one at present but it weighs in at 2.5kg, but a Ti one would be around 1kg.

Yep, already got some bits off eBay but need more.

Anything over 0.7mm would be fine.

I used to know someone who worked at BAE shame he retired last year D’oh!

Loads of options for disc brakes and campag gears.

    Here just a few:

Mavic cassette – shimano fit/campag spacing

St Jonh Street Cycles – sell a US made inline cam for the gear cable which means campag shifters and shimano cassette.

DT Swiss 240 hub – with a campag freehub body (the option I have)

No problem at all running an XT mech or mtb mech. Just I have a full ultegra groupset, so wanted to keep it all the same.

Thought it might be the linkage…..shame

Nice – cheers for that Placid

Being a bit cheeky but if you have the time any chance of a photo of the chain stay clearance from underneath the bike??

No worries if you cant but would be massively appreciated

Looking good Tiger. That’s just what i mean :-)

All the best to Wildcat – they are using the right materials, quality looks like its there too.

The cost of postage and potential customs (Eric massively under values the kit – which helps a huge amount) is the only pain with Eric’s stuff.

More choice and more competition has got to be a good thing.

Lets hope Wildcat have some good ideas for new kit with a UK focus.

Sorry, but don’t know the correct sewing termololgy.

I’ll explain – where two panels meet, the sewing joint is on the inside of the bag, so it hives a neat look. Rather than leave the raw edges of the fabric, Eric sews another small flap of fabric along the length of the raw edges. So neat, stronger as there is another 2 rows of stitches and more water resistant to due to the fabric used.

He does this on all joins, like I say it looks stronger etc but it’s all these details which makes the product so professional and worth the high purchase price.

Just seen Tigers post – any chance of any pics?

Esp. interested in the inertia and panel joints/stitching etc which was where I was most impressed by Eric’s stuff.

Eric is amazing and the quality of the goods is outstanding.

I know Wildcat bags are using similar materials to Eric at Revelate but will the quantity of the craftsmanship be the same?

I was genuinely shocked about how well made and finished the Revelate kit is.

I’m not knocking Wildcat bags by any means but I hope the quality will be the same league when they are released as the price is similar and Eric has already set the bar very high.

Placid – what’s the tyre clearances like? The on one seat stay design always produces huge clearances at the top, but what about the chainstays? What kind of rubber size could you run? 42c? Bigger?

Awesome bit of kit. I’ve got a 08 plate 2.0l 140bhp , lots of power, comfy, good mpg, great to sleep in, transport bikes etc. Def drives like a car rather than a van and fits in my garage. So much better than an estate. Just expensive – thats the only downside, but it’s a vw so that’s normal.

Def right about the short a/c, so not much use on modern mtb frames.
I’m going to be using them on the road mainly so that’s not a concern. Got the disc only version so lighter than the v/disc version and a cleaner look too.

More shock and awe that they can make them that light and still pass CEN tests.

Mr Tall – I read your thread before buying them. Always nice to get the thumps up from Brant too.

Look very well made and should knock ~2 lb of the current steel forks. Thats not bad for £120

Oh…nearly forgot. Are there any chainline/chainring clearance issues with a normal road external bb chainset due to the huge tyre clearances

    Rik
    Free Member

Cool, cheers for the write up.

Yep the tyre clearance looks huge and just what I’m after, found a few frames with great clearance round the seat stay but not round the bottom bracket area.

Def looking for a comfy ride hence the 35c tyres (although I was surprised how fast marathon supremes are for their size) so if it’s a little bit slower than a carbon superbike that’s fine).

You wouldn’t happen to know the bb height would you?

I’ve just built up a steel tourer with discs and although it’s lovely to ride, I just can’t get over the 26lb end weight of the built. With Ti frame and carbon forks I’m hoping to get the same comfy, stable and sublime ride but drop some of the lard.

What size frame do you have compared to your height? The geometry sheet seems to suggest they are ‘compact’ sized so I was thinking of a 58cm as I’m 6’1 in height.

    Cheers again.

Druidh – I emailed you but then I did a 12 month advanced search and found this.

How about an update now it’s nearly a year on. Give us a review if you would be so kind…,

    Would you want to ride:

Peak – the beast, Jacobs ladder, stanage plantation or causeway, chapel gate, cutgate and cavedale.

    With panniers?

These are all on my bikepacking rides.

Frame bag and rucksac are the way to go.

Brant – do you have list of the lengths and offsets available?

A 420 version as Sam suggested there maybe?

Plain black carbon I think will look good.

Just need to find some! Im thinking that the ritchey/trigon might work as I now know they are 415mm (not the 400mm I first thought) with a 48mm rake.

Maybe, just maybe it will work….

Just trying to make the most of my £150 or there abouts budget. There are some very good deals on diablos at the moment.

Just need to buy something really and stop faffing

Well I do it on a Ti hardtail – 750mm wide bars, pikes, flow wheels etc for trail fun but loaded up the bike still only weighs ~30lb (rest of the kit in rucksac. A lot of peoples bikes on here weigh more than 30lb without bivi kit.

Very interesting Ian, I was under the impression that a single Ay up would be brighter than the 2011 joystick. Maybe I need a rethink as I can get the joystick quite a bit cheaper.

Ah. Just when I’d made up my mind……
