What length reverb do orange supply the 380 or 410 mm long? It will make the difference on frame size.

You big freak – most people use a tent on a national trust site! Maybe you’ll get a discount.

Adele says – You’ll come crying in the middle of the night desperate to sleep in our porch.

Superdale – there is no ‘known’ problem with Orange Fives cracking in the same place and quoting 2 failures 3 years apart is nonsense!

I you knew the stats on Orange failures then the Five has the one of the lowest failure rates if any frame in the business (any manufacture). All bike companies have frames returned under warranty – that doesn’t mean that there is always a flaw in the design. Some riders are heavy on components or just heavy others can’t ride for tosh. The fact is hardly any Fives break as a percentage of the number they build.

You’ll need a £30 camming device for the gear cable from St John Street Cycles to be able to run shimano cassette with campag levers

If anybody is interested in a 18 inch 2009 Five frame – maxle rear end – painted in the colour of your choice (by Orange to look like new) with a 2012 fox rp23 (when they come in July) let me know.

Will be on the road bike – want to keep to the roads for speed but don’t want to be cycling down the side of a duel carriageway either.

I can make it to Matlock on nice roads but then I have no idea on which roads to take.

Don’t really think people can comment on the performance or advantage of a CCDB until you have ridden a well set up CCDB.

On the reverse though a CCDB is only as good as the set up. A badly set up one will perform far worse than a well set up RP23.

I wasn’t meaning to be derogatory at all, but your not that heavy and your breaking frames in ‘easy’ terrain.

What would it be like if you rode week in week out in rocky terrain like the Peaks or Lakes etc.

But it does sound like you need a thudbuster or work on your technique.

Anybody thought to suggest that you might be the major problem rather than the frame? Ever thought why the vast majority if riders are standing up when they go downhill (not just the ‘trail centre rider’ – proper riders too)

Just for closure – not commenting on build, paint, welding etc just the whole point of the frame.

Although IMO really don’t see the point or the aesthetics of the curvy stays (only Hetchins have have only pulled it of successfully).

In a forum full of ridiculous bikes – I think that’s the most awful horrid looking ‘I must fill a niche’ frame I’ve ever seen.

Valleydaddy – Couldn’t make the WRT def will be booking it in early for next years (if there is a next years).

I have already emailed Beth at Wildcat as well as Eric at Revelate (as I already have 3 of his products already) so I’m just weighing up the options as the prices are broadly the same (although Wildcat have a much shorter lead time, I’m not really in much of a rush due to the tangle I already have).

That’s why I’m looking for experience of the options and what people got/have and fit in them.

Lots of pics of the outside of the frame bags around but not many of the internal features, so pics would be great :o)

Def won’t be selling the tangle but don’t blame you asking. It goes on every road ride, so handy.

My tent (vaude power lizard) fits upright against the seat tube on my 18 inch frame, so I was thinking single zip with internal divider and full size map pocket – to keep costs down. Tent and bladder in the rear part and tools/food/waterproof in the front part. But just not sure if twin zip/compartment would be More useful and worth the extra cash….

Cheers Flatfish – just the kind of info I was looking for.

What options did you go for I.e single/dual compartment, removable divider, map pocket etc
Know you have it, are there any options you wish you’d have gone for or changes?

I run 28 hole scandium 29er Bontanger RXL rims on DT 240 hubs – wide strong light rim so great tyre profile with 35c but can still use 28c road tyres if I want a bit more pep.

At least Shimano have finally hidden the STI cables so they don’t look as gash.

Although campag ergo levers are getting uglier by the year.

Give me a 9 speed Record titanium groupset any day.

    Rik
    Free Member

Do you want it to work or do you want it to look nice. If the latter then Record. If the former then Shimano.

Do you want it to wear out or wear in and last ten times as long. If it’s the latter then Record.

That’s the biggest load of sh#t I’ve ever heard about Campag. Clearly doesn’t know his road stuff.

Large here too – hence the 50mm stem and 750mm bars. Long wheelbase should be super stable though and the stays a pretty short

Mine will be 1×9 with 50mm stem, bolt through short travel forks (with huge headset reducer cups to slacken it out more) play bike.

Built it up to be the perfect trail centre bike. 110mm and a hard tune on the rp23 should be huge fun.

Stripped the fork and all the O ring seals where in good condition and still looked fine. The damper oil was not the best colour though. So…

Rebuilt the fork with new oil and rc-35 grease, working fine post re-build but will only really tell after a few rides. If it goes again def will use a new seal head kit.
