I use the blackspire ones from crc on mine. Better shifting than middleburn IMO and comparable price.

Ah yes, stem choice, that makes tapered appealing.

Can't you use a tapered steerer in a 1.5" headtube if you want to?

    Doh! Good point!

Sam – probably Staveley / Kentmere but I was gardening during the day at home (windermere) so could have been either. Apparently Lymes disease is very rare (according to doc).

I got one on Monday night and it was probably on since Sunday )-: Didn't realise it was there so scratched it off and woke up the next day with the dreaded bullseye.

Went to the Docs the next day and got some antibiotics which should sort it before it starts hopefully. Its the same antibiotics that are used for STD's apparently so might kill two birds… (-:

Hi Tim, we've got a website with regular rides going, feel free to tag along or post your own:

    Lake District Moutain Biking

I should be around too so will gladly meet up for a ride. I'm 'stu' on the forum.

Been there several times. Had one replaced under warranty before as well but the others were out. Don't bother trying to fix them, I spent many a stubborn hour on mine…

I don't really see the point yet, as a roboticist, they're too random and too short a run-time with too limited surface capability and obstacle avoidance. What's the point in trading off cleaning with a hoover (christ, it takes 3 minutes to whip round a room with a big hoover) for emptying per-room, having to have it recharge and carry it to a different location, having to move chairs and obstacles you'd normally just hoover around.

You definitely have a point but they do work with limitations and for people like me that loathe hoovering its very useful.

I've got one, works amazingly well and cleans thoroughly.

Does have some downsides though. It needs emptying every time and it does struggle if its a cluttered room so I usually move some chairs on top of tables etc to give it a free run. Oh and new carpets can clog up the rollers but they are designed to be taken out and cleaned easily.

A couple of points I'd like to comment on:

I would however never consider working at one or sending my kids to one as I dont agree with them on a moral basis, again being a teacher I reckon I'll be able to help my kids achieve anyway

So its okay for you as a teacher to give your kids extra help but other parents who aren't teachers shouldn't be allowed to pay for that help?

And these two quotes made me chuckle:

if I had 40 grand to spend on a car I would have to seriously think about sending the foetus (thats an announcement by the way) to private school.

    Thats some hypocrisy there…

    Oh and congratulations (-:

If it helps they don't come with any adaptors as I've just got a pair and they were qr only. I would be surprised if adaptors aren't available, try the importers if you don't find anything online.

Might be covered under home insurance?

Sounds rubbish, ideally the concrete would meet the tarmac with just one seam. And without some builders footprint!

My garage has about 5 inches of concrete outside the door (continued from inside) which is sloping to stop water getting in so maybe thats what they were allowing for?

I've got the Denon system above and a Yamaha system in the kitchen at a similar price range and the Denon one is much better.

If its the same size at the l2d (and i think it is) then no it won't fit.

I tried it for a while with a rubber sleeve but it was never quite right and broke the holder in the end. Got fed up of the faff and bought a Diablo.

I love my Prophet, its just an awesome bike. Nice laid back angles, well balanced (front doesn't feel floaty on climbs) and genuinely light and stiff.

Morecambe is a bit of a dump!:CLICK – Morecambe Neighbourhood Stats Thats for the west-end of morecambe.

Wow that is genuinely shocking! I just did the same for Moss side, gun capital of the North, and guess what, it has a lower crime rate than Morecambe 😯

    Morecambe is a complete dump.

Do not agree – bits of Morecambe are lovely and the view across the bay is stunning. It's pretty cheap too. Morecambe is a lot nicer than it was a few years ago.

Obviously these things are subjective but having lived there for 10 years during my childhood, working there for the last 6 years and my parents still live there I think I can say with absolute certainty that it is indeed a dump.

Take a look around, the town centre is littered with poundshops, no reputable shops to speak of, restaurant choice is dire. There's an Aldi on the seafront FFS which shows how desparate the planners are to attract business. Because of the very cheap housing much of the local population is on the disadvantaged side or very old or just those that have got stuck there like my parents. It has improved in the last few years but still has a long way to go.

Steer clear of Heysham, it looks nice on the outside but its near Morecambe and Morecambe is a complete dump.

Carnforth, Milnthorpe as someone mentioned above is just a crossroads, very dull!

I would suggest renting somewhere for 6 momths and doing a bit of exploring until you find your favourite place.

Having lived in lots of places including London and Brighton (Hove actually…) I can safely say Windermere where I am now is the best place to live on the planet!

Battlestar Galactica is excellent. Completely the opposite of what you think, less about sci fi and more about great characters and human life. Empire gave two of the seaons 5 stars.

I had major issues with the DHX air on my mk 2, blew through the travel too quick and pedalled badly. I've had an RP23 for the last 18 months or so and it made a MASSIVE difference. Rides like a trail bike now and was everything I expected of the bike when I bought it.

All pretty pricey in Theatreland, this one is good value though and couldn't be better located:

    Strand Palace Hotel

Much cheaper over Bayswater, Hyde Park way if you're willing to travel.

I'm happy with my speedmaster, had it about 6 years now. It did start gaining time once after I dropped it but was quickly repaired for £25 by the local watch shop.

As one poster above said, if you can afford it go for the sapphire crystal version, mines got the cheaper hesalite glass and it does scratch relatively easily (but it does buff out). I wouldn't bother with the co-axial escapement version either, my brother has one (diffrent model a deville) and its broke twice in 3 years (-:

The Sheraton in Edinburgh is great. The spa has everything including a pool where you can swim outdoors. My missus was in heaven and earnt me enough brownie points to nip down to Glentress 8)

Try laterooms, we got a pretty good deal through them.

Wickes are suprisingly good. In my family we've had a total of 3 kitchens and 5 bathrooms done from Wickes and its been pretty painless. Fitters are self employed but pretty good and Wickes are pretty hot on keeping tabs on them to make sure they do a good job.

A mate who rides with us is diabetic. Doesn't need the insulin on a ride but just has to make sure sugar levels are kept up. He gets these prescription glucose gels which he occasionally takes but other than it doesn't seem to bother him at all on a ride.

I recently got British Gas out for a repair. I don't have a contract with them so it was £165 one off cost with parts and labour included and work is guaranteed.

My repair man took 3 hours to fix it over 2 days and needed 3 spare parts so think I got a pretty good deal (-:

A months wage is a reasonable guide I think.

Try to look ahead as well, she will be wearing it for life (hopefullly!). Remember that if your spending power is likely to increase in the future then what you think is nice now may look cheap to you in the future.

When I bought my wifes 5 years ago I thought it was pretty special (and it was on my meagre income then) but looking at it now it looks pretty cheap and I would have bought a much nicer one now.

Thanks for the reply. Was hoping there was a type of outdoor mixer tap available that will connect to a housepipe. I suppose i could have hot and cold taps and then use a 3 way connect to mix it myself but a purpose built outdoor mixer is what I'm looking for.

Why is that fence not your responsibility and the other two are?

I'm genuinely interested as I'm shortly moving in to a place where I (officially) own two of the boundary fences and on the other side the neighbour owns it. I would have guessed joint responsibility for all fences between neighbours.
