    Deffo looks like the matrix..

Some progress, Managed to get the chap to agree to a full repair with me paying only £100 (I have had qoutes from other garages in the region of £400) and a promise of a free MOT when its due.

Cant ask more than that really.

Thanks for all the advice all !

I think they probably would, once I get the foot in the door with the farmer… And the most important thing, secure brick workshop/outhouse for the bikes……

The only symptom is the curry smell when the heating is on, heating off with the fan on full blast and its fine. Not loosing much coolant so I think its a very small leak.

Its a real shame because its the only thing wrong with it, considering its age. Its in pretty much perfect condition inside and out, the engine runs very well, great clutch andc gearbox etc. Its a great car for what I need (bikes, dogs and DIY duties) and is perfect for camping etc with my lad.

Thats what I am thinking TJ, go in tomorrow and give him the car and ask for it back repaired or a refund…

Also, because my other half haggled a good price (£2,200 down to £1550), he is saying that we should be happy with what we have….

He says the warranty covers everything apart from wear and tear

Its from a “proper” dealer, lots of cars for sale, established etc. I wont name names but can email a link to their site.

02 plate, just under 100k. I have kept a log of everything and will be writing letters from now on.

When we brought the car we could smell it, thought it was just a smell from the old owner of something. Gave it a bloody good clean etc but it was just as bad.

Googled “Berlingo curry smell” and found lots about heater matrix leaks etc. So reported it to them (two weeks after buying it) who agreed it probably had a leak and did the redweld thing.

Now he says its wear and tear and wont do anything about it.

    Right….

The radweld worked, for two days and the leak is now back. The Dealer is having none of it, says its wear and tear and to be honest almost got aggresive about me wanting it repaired or a refund.

I have been speaking to consumer direct, I think it all comes down to the fact that the heating matrix failing is not wear and tear. I cant get anyone from Citroen (helpful as they were) to say if it is or not.

Anyone any ideas ? Would you regard a heating matrix leaking as wear and tear ? its done just under 100k (its just a run about) He has admitted that it had the fault when we brough it. (or at least that you could smell something odd)

Thanks for all the replies…. I am sure its not leaking. The tank sits about a foot above the ground, I could easily see if its leaking from the tank. I can follow the pipe all the way to the house and its all clean, dry and looking fine.

I’ll speak to the insurance chaps tomorrow.

I have had all sorts stolen from our out buildings before, they even took half a strimmer (I had removed the engine to work on it) Bloody &@%$ they are !

The bikes and house are secure (well, as secure as anything can be) and we have bloody big dogs. Thats why I think they would have come during the day when we are out, I would have heard the dogs otherwise.

It does sound odd I know but we live in the middle of knowhere, no neighbours and are often out. Its dropped too fast to be normal use, the cap was left half open.

Counting my blessing that they never found the bike shed (very well hidden, alarmed and built like a brick shint house)

Thanks Islander, Just propped it up and the boiler is up and running, Just hope it lasts long enough.

    Chameleon78, aint it grim !

I know, the chap who normally drives the oil lorry told me about another driver who delivered 1000 litres to a big old house, turned out he had filled up the garden water tank by mistake. Which was then sprayed all over the garden. It cost his firm 30k to clear it all up !

I called the Police who said there have been lots of this recently with the fuel prices being so high.

I’ll be fitting a lockable cap and sticking loads of barbed wire up just in case….

Checked it all and it looks fine, the lid was slighty open. Pretty much sure its been pinched…..

Normally use the standard stuff… Its a bit desperate as we have two little nippers in the house and its gonna get chilly.

Is it not possible to go and collect a suitable oil in a smaller amount maybe ? They cant get a big delivery out to me for at least a week but I am local to them…..

The Berlingo seems to sit very high, if I try it and assuming its works OK is it illegal ? They will look the dogs and I cant help think it should improve hanlding (or knacker it ?)

Does a fully comp policy not allow you to drive any other car ? 3rd party cover only though ?
I cant even speak to them to check that out.

I dont really want to take out another policy just to drive the 5 miles home.

What about a Berlingo on 120 thousand miles ?

This car is replacing a Berlingo which some nutjob wrote off by hitting me last week in the snow….

I was hoping to try something else but do keep coming back to it, I took 4 people and three bikes on holiday this year, everything fitted inside the boot !

Boot space which can take a dog, it narrows it down but certainly not set on a people carrier. Estate would be good.
